My children and I have been caring LL Bean backpacks for at least the last 30 years. We have always carried the Deluxe model but I thought I would change things up this year and try something new. Boy was I disappointed!!! Within the first month of carrying this backpack the handle broke off and both of the straps have started to rip. The quality of this backpack is like the quality I would find at W*****T!!! Would not recommend this backpack to anyone!!!

We bought this two months ago and the top handle broke. Customer service said to ship it back and turnaround 2-3 weeks to determine if it is an issue and under warranty. Not worth the headache nor the money.

My daughter's backpack is already ripping in several places after less than three months of normal use. I'm extremely disappointed in the quality of this bag. Looking at the other recent reviews, I can see we are not the only ones experiencing the same issues. I will be returning this.

Bought as a gift for a middle schooler at a school where there are no lockers. EVERYthing fits in this bag Chromebook, binder, notebook, school supplies, lunch box. I was amazed! About a month into owning it, one of the shoulder straps started fraying at top of shoulder. Should've exchanged it over the summer, but I didn't. Owned for 9 months (and not used for summer break) and now shoulder strap is barely holding on, so I have no choice but to return. Bought a second one because kiddo needs something for school, in one day BOTH straps are fraying & coming loose AND handle at top of bag disconnected on one side. Meanwhile I'm still using my LL Bean backpack from 1998. The "locker" bag is a great design, need to figure out the quality issues on the straps ASAP,

I have had this backpack for seven weeks and it has already ripped in several places. I am thoroughly disappointed in the integrity of this bag.

Very disappointed. Used less than 6 months with minimal weight inside the pack. The strap tore. I'm just finding out that this is a very common problem with this product. Will be returning it.

Hasn't lasted AT ALL the top carry handle has broken and one of the straps is tearing loose. My son is 17 and he knows how to take care of his things. This bag is junk if it can't handle one school year plus a few months.

Similar to what many other reviewers describe, the straps on this pack are not sturdy. First one started to rip at top of shoulder strap with just a few weeks of light use. Drove all the way to LLBean store to exchange it before son left for college. On the 2nd pack, the top strap ripped the first time he picked his pack with just a laptop in it. Poor quality. Never had problems with many LL Bean backpacks purchased over the years. Shame this is not a quality product because it is attractive and otherwise a nice pack. Very disappointed!

I bought the bag just over 2-3 years ago and definitely carry a fair amount of stuff (laptop, light jacket, lunch box, chargers etc) to and from classes throughout the school year. Just after the first year the left strap began fraying from the top of the backpack. With the updated warranty policy for only 1 year I was unable to utilize it, but after spending over $100 on a backpack I wasn't about to buy another one so I have been limping it along with duck tape and over using the other strap. So far it is holding it together, but I would have not bought the bag if I knew this would be such an issue. I love all the storage and organization it has to offer and have been exclusively using LLBean backpacks since I was 6 years old, many decades later now with no issues with wearing. Now my last two bags have had the same issue with the straps fraying so I truly may go elsewhere for my future bags.

I was so excited to recieve this new backpack. My last backpack (different brand) lasted me 12 years. I primarily use it for travel. On my first trip the should strap already pulled away and frayed. I'm so upset as the bag wasn't cheap and now I need to get a new one.

We have always purchased from LL Bean for years. They have always had great quality products. My son had his older backpack for 6 years! He finally grew out of it. We ordered this backpack and it ripped out after three weeks. On top of that we have to pay $6.50 to send back the defective product after I spent over $100 for the backpack. It's such a shame, LL Bean used to be such a great company.

I am so disappointed in this purchase. I bought this backpack for my middle-school son, and the stitching on the straps and hanging loop is already beginning to unravel after barely 3 weeks of use. To have such an expensive backpack fall apart so quickly is frustrating, to put it mildly. I will not purchase another bag from LL Bean again.

About to return our 3rd (yes, you read that correctly!) Comfort Carry Portable Locker Backpack that has come apart this school year - each one lasted roughly 3 months. The area where the shoulder strap attaches to the backpack is poorly constructed. The most recent one lasted slightly longer than the first 2, but came apart significantly faster once the strap started coming apart at the seam. Kid isn't hard on backpacks and still uses ones that are much older for travel/sports and they show little to no wear, but this one clearly isn't designed to hold up long-term. Not what we expect from LL Bean, especially at this price.

I bought this backpack for my son thinking it would last through high school based on LL Beans advertising and the price. After 8 months, one of the internal pockets is ripping at the seam. To be eligiblefor a replacement you must send the backpack back, at your expense. LL Bean will inspect and determine if you are eligible for a replacement. Not satisfied. As you can see the backpack is being used but not drug behind a car.

As a 10th grader my son wanted a larger backpack this year, so in August of 2022 I ponied up for what we thought would be a durable good-quality and long lasting backpack, assuming he'd be able to use it for the rest of his HS years. Sadly here we are in early April of 2023 and the straps are failing already! Truly disappointing since his previous ('lesser" brand) backpack had endured through middle school and his freshman year with only a minor zipper issue. Am getting ready to ship back for a refund (I hope!). NOT the quality expected from LL Bean, and certainly not worthy of the premium price point

I am beyond disappointed in this backpack. You will see in the pictures the damage. It began fraying where you can hang the backpack up within a month of receiving it. Now it is spreading to the actual strap! We had had this not quite 7 months. I'm not sure we will make to the end of the school year. Not what I would expect from LLBean. DISAPPOINTED!!

Our family has been buying LLBean backpacks for 40+ years. I personally still use one that is still in excellent condition from high school (over 25 years old). All of the backpacks purchased for our oldest (now in college) are still in excellent shape and, up until this year, so are the ones for our youngest (now in 8th grade). Sadly, we purchased this bag and within 2 weeks the handle ripped off on one side and shoulder straps were pulling away. We just received a replacement (the Super Deluxe instead because this was out of stock) and the zipper mechanism is shoddy on the front pocket. We know it will break if we keep it. It's nearly impossible to unzip in the 2 places where the reflective material is sewed under the zipper. Very disappointing LLBean.

We love Bean backpacks, I had them as a kid, and have bought them for my three kids. The last two we bought have been a huge disappointment though. This one is the perfect size, exactly what my high schooler needed, but within a month the straps started to shred away from the backpack. Within a few months the side straps completely pulled out. That frayed strap in the photo is supposed to be attached. Now it has been less than a year and we have to buy a new backpack. Sad since they were not cheap!

I bought this for my son for his first year of high school. His last LL Bean backpack, he used from 3rd-8th grade and is still in great shape. Not so with this bag. After one week of school one of the shoulder straps is starting to rip. The bag is large enough and has enough pockets to hold all of his books and Chromebook.
