I was not wowed at first by the colors. The coral-ish color was really more orange. The first pocket is blue, which I do not understand. It would look a lot better with just gray. But just let me tell you, it is SO comfortable. I took it to summer camp and is good at balancing out the weight. It makes it feel a lot lighter than it really is.

This is the largest backpack I have ever seen. You could use this to travel with. It is comfortable, sturdy and I love the organization pocket on the inside front pocket and the outside pocket where you can carry a large jacket. I love the very front pocket. It is just like a large pencil bag, and is so easy to access. All you would need to do is bend down to get a pencil, marker or whatever you might need. It could easily hold a scientific calculator, as would the first inside pocket. It has a large pocket where you could store folders and they would stay in place, and not get smushed. I also love the individual pencil pockets. The middle section could fit the biggest science or art/coffee table book. Probably 4-5 large textbooks vertically. The back pocket is where the laptop has it own pocket. You could fit the largest laptop in there and a tablet with it. I am only giving it 4 stars because the neck rest/straps come down a little far and are not as flattering/comfortable for a curvy woman.

My daughter uses this pack in high school. She doesn't have any complaints. It fits her well, and carry's everything she needs for the day

Just purchased this item, so cannot address durability, yet, What I can say is that if the zipped area of the backpack is not filled with several items, the front pouch hangs open - not tight to the rest of the pack. There is no way to tighten those side straps beyond a certain point. so items in the pouch can fall out a little too easily, if smooth and/or small.

Backpack was great except for the water bottle pockets were incredibly shallow. My cups or bottles would not have stayed. I returned it.

I decided to buy as much quality as I could afford to get what I hoped was a product that would suit my needs and last well. I have been using my new backpack for less than two months and sadly the carry loop on the back is breaking already. I do love the look of my backpack and the design is adequate. However, I am disappointed in the quality

I so wanted to love this backpack. It's super spacious and can hold a lot of stuff. It's well made and the color is my favorite. But it's just not for me. The back was heavy even when empty, so once I added my usual stuff, it was weighty. The straps were stiff and just didn't fit my 5' 2" slight frame.

Great Bag and a good size, but strap ripped in 1 week. They are going to replace it but it's back ordered for 2 months.

This was a great bag for my son when we initially bought it a year ago. However the bag did not last a year before one of the handles started ripping on top. He used it for school and travelled with it once.

I bought the mineral gray/asphalt color. The sizing is perfect to fit all my daughter's school supplies in it, but when it came in the colors were much darker than I expected it to be. The picture showed it to be much lighter and have small coral straps on the front, but it was a much darker shade of gray and the small straps were very red in real life making it a bit boyish looking. Still I would definitely recommend it for those who need more space and organization!

2 of my kids used these bags for 7th and 9th grade. By the end of the first semester the stitching at the top of the straps on both bags started unraveling, some of the reflective material wore off, and the straps overall weren't looking great. :( Disappointed In the quality for the price.

We love LLBean. We have been buying their backpacks for years and have never had any issues with their quality. The ones my kids used from kindergarten to middle school are still in good condition. However, last year we wanted a bigger one because my son needed more space for his laptop and books. Despite being the most expensive model, we chose this one as it seemed to be the best option. Unfortunately, after a few months of use, one of the straps and the hanger started ripping away. I'm very disappointed with the quality and durability of this model.

I have been ordering backpacks from LLBean for over ten years. I haven't ordered many as they hold well and only order new ones to accommodate more space (and a water pocket). However, this backpack does not seem to be made of the same quality as the other styles. My 16 year old did not have enough space for his books in the deluxe backpack, so we upgraded to this one, the largest. After just 10 days, the strap is already ripping at the top part of the stitching. I am so disappointed. It was a lot of money and expected more.

Nice bag. Way overpriced. LL Bean has become too expensive. There are better options out there for the price.

This backpack has the size and features my son wanted, unfortunately even backpacks that cost over $100 are not the same level of quality that LL Bean used to be known for. The straps are starting to fray after just a few months of use!
Previous LL Bean backpacks lasted many years. That will not be the case with this one.

Previous version was better. The water bottle holder is too small and inflexible. Shoulder straps are thin and don't provide enough cushion if backpack is heavy or full.

Love the size and all the features. I bought 2 for my kids, and both backpacks are ripping where the strap meets the backpack, in the exact same location. Backpacks seem like a product/ manufacturing issue since both did it within a month of use.

This backpack lasted for 14 school days, and then the shoulder strap started to rip. It's a bummer. My son loves this backpack: It has lots of compartments, including a sturdy one for a laptop. It has 2 nice big water bottle pouches on either side. It has a nice 'tiny' compartment at the top, perfect for his phone. It has a place for everything he takes to school. But if it is already ripping after 2 weeks, is it even going to make it through the first month of school?!? This is really disappointing. My backpack from college -- 25 years ago -- still has no rips, even though I carried around many more books than my son does. He doesn't use that one because it isn't structured well for a laptop and has no bottle pockets. Please fix quality issue and you've got a winning pack.

I bought this last year for my son with high expectation after many parents' recommendations. However, it only lasts a few months before shoulder belt wears.

I like this backpack, but I wish it had a stronger bottom. It also doesn't hold as much stuff as I would like it to.

excellent design, very usable as a backpack. the reason I did not give 5 starts is the handle at the top. It is very thin and uncomfortable to use if the backpack is heavy. My son has had the backpack for about 3 weeks and the handle is starting to rip off. The backpack will need to be returned.

Lots of great storage and pockets for everything but it's a bit uncomfortable and the shoulder straps don't quite sit right for smaller frames.

Although I'm keeping it, it's not as great a quality as my old one
(Item # 296936). The actual material feels cheaper, but the water bottle pockets are better. (No more mesh that tends to stretch out if you use it as much as I do.) There is no key holder and the pocket area is "basic" compared to my old one. There are a lot less compartments. I'd pay MORE for one that was better than this. But this is the best for what they make now. :-(

Do a careful check when they ship to you. The first bag I purchased was already fraying at the straps. However, customer service was great and I was able to easily exchange it.
