My son lived in these shoes after getting used to them. The top part of the shoe, where the "tongue" is seemed to be narrower than others, but they were built great! Really nice stitching, good quality, no issues with the soles coming apart, or on the inside. He just simply grew out of them! haha! Thanks Merrell! Well worth the price to make sure my kiddo has decent shoes! Marked only 4 stars, because there is a large break-in period, like 6 weeks. But after, he loved them, and they fit great! He used them for preschool, Tball, regular play. Nice shoe!

I just wanted to give buyers a heads up that there is no way to tighten the bungee laces on the front of the shoe. They are more of a slip-on shoe with extra velcro closure. That might work for some, but we needed a shoe with laces we could tighten for hiking support. We are returning these, but other than that, they looked like a great shoe if you are looking for a slip-on style.

A sturdy little shoe with a good fit. They take a lot of abuse? I only wish they would be more water friendly. You can use them at the river or in the rain but they don’t dry as fast as I’d like. I bought two pair in different sizes so my grandson can have some for next year. He’s tough on his shoes but they’ll probably last him most of the year.

Runs big. Also very roomy width (but not "wide".) Had to order a half size smaller.

I didn't end up getting this shoe because my 4 year old had a very hard time putting these on himself. In fact, when he realized how stiff the shoe was and how much he was going to have to work to get his foot in he gave up. They look like great shoes but these would just create more problems than they're worth. Also, the strap looked really short. Out of the box it barely came across the top of the shoe...put a foot in and i don't know that it would fit right.

My 3rd grader loved the look of these shoes, but they blistered his feet if he played or hiked in them for any length of time. Several times I picked him up from the gym, and he had opted to play barefoot rather than wear these shoes. :( We quickly discarded them.

My kid loves the look of these, but he hates wearing them at PE. They are a bit clunky, and the insoles have very little cushion.

I got the wide width because my son has a pretty wide foot. These shoes were not wide enough. I thought they would get better as he broke them in, but they are still very hard to even put on because of how narrow they are and the tight shoe openings. He definitely cannot put them on himself, which is something we are trying to work on at this age.

These shoes started off in the upper 4 star range. We ordered two pair for sizing purposes. The smaller ones fit best, but we liked the look of them and decided to keep the larger ones for later. After a couple months (thanks Zappos) we decided to return the larger ones because we didn't like how the smaller ones were aging. The support in the sidewalls softened rapidly and they would bulge out over the footbed even though the foot wasn't pressed against the material. When they were empty in the mudroom it looked like someone just sat on them. The cushioning and general comfort deteriorated quickly. After a month of use they were clunky, unsupportive and uncomfortable. For a shoe this heavy, you are better off going with the waterproof version. Would be a decent rotational shoe, but not a daily driver.

My son loves these shoes however after 2 weeks the elastic lace pulled out. I am surprised because Merrell is such a great brand, I am disappointed

Got these for my 8 year old son - they fit well and will be great for the playground and for hikes. The only issue is that the tongue seems too short - it gets lost under the velcro tab.
