Substantial fabric but the drawstring will not stay knotted.

The shorts are comfortable and have a good fit. I will buy another pair next year to build out my collection. Can't speak for longevity at this time, that's why I didn't give them 5 stars. Recommend buying them during a sale as LL Bean regular prices are high.

I like the matching draw string. The deep front pockets and rear pocket are nice. The draw back is that these shorts winkle if you look at them. You're not supposed to iron them so they look like you've been wearing them for weeks even right out of the washing machine.

I guess I didnt read close enough after looking at so many other shorts. These look good, but I prefer cargo shorts. The big negative is there is No fly. You must untie and drop em.

These are pretty good and I like the stretchy fabric. They sure aren't cheap but they hold their shape and they are worth it. About the only complaint I have is these do not have belt loops. Besides that, I suggest you buy and try.

These are really comfortable, quality shorts, but I need two back pockets, especially with phone, keys, and wallet in tow. The drawstring is kind of annoying too. They are really nice though, so I was disappointed to return them. Otherwise would recommend.

Was looking for a lighter weight elastic waist shorts for in the garden this summer.. These seemed to fit the bill. I wanted a 6" inseam and LL Bean wouldn't shorten. When they arrived, they are indeed too long. I found local Alterations are very expensive... $20 a pair. So won't be buying these again. If you are taller than I, you should be fine.

great shorts but had to return as they were too tight around waste. I wear 40, if I bought 2x, they would be too big in legs and butt

I bought these a few weeks ago, I'm not a fan of the draw string, Try as I might I just can't get them tight enough around my waist I feel like they are always loose, I wish they had belt loops so I could use a belt I also don't care for the single rear being on the right side because I normally put my wallet on my left side.

I bought these several years ago. They have been great! The crotch is splitting after a few years of near constant wear so I bought another pair. Same size as the old ones. The new ones arrive and are at least an inch smaller in the waist. I now have to return and purchase the next size up.

"Fake fly" prevents more than 3 stars. Would be perfect if it had a zippered or buttoned fly.

I just want the 6" version of these back. The waistband elastic eventually loses its strength and I was looking to replace. 8" is too long for me.

The tan shorts were too big in the waist. The brown shorts fit very well(both size large). Also recommend using a thicker cotton so they don't lose their shape after washing and reduce wrinkling.

I have been wearing the 6 inch shorts as a woman and love the ease and good looks of this casual short. When the quantity got low on the 6 inch, I ordered the 8 inch and they rub the tops of my thighs where the bottom hem hits them so much while walking and especially sitting that I couldn't stand it. I returned them and I really, really hope you bring back the 6 inch short.

I've bought several pairs of the Dock Shorts before. They are a standard for all but the winter time. The recent ones seemed as bit fuller cut and the fabric, all cotton which I like, felt flimsier. I like them but not as much as the earlier purchases.

I liked the feel and construction of these shorts. I normally wear a size 44 waist so ordered a XXL (44-46) thinking that would be the proper sizing. Upon receipt and trying them on, was very
disappointed to discover that the shorts were so tight I could barely get them on but no way I would be able to wear them comfortably. Unfortunately, due to inconsistency in the sizing had no choice but to return them.

I like them, the fit is nice, but sadly, as some others have pointed out, expect wrinkles like mad. The pic is just from one day sitting at my office desk. Sadly, these (rather expensive) shorts have now been relegated to just around the house, or I'm going to have to starch them, which nowadays seems very weird to do.

I washed these according to the label. They came out fairly wrinkled. Wearing them made the wrinkles worse. Looks like I slept in them. Will be returning.

Well made, nice colors but absence of a fly a big shortcoming.

No fly which I miss. Hard to pee when you just pull the shorts down to do your business.

Nice shorts, fit good around the waste but too baggy in the legs. Had to return them. Loved the marine blue color.

The draw string doesn't quite do it for me. I have to keep pulling them up. Maybe not best style for a potbelly like me.

I have a 36" waist and these were well made but maybe since they come from India they were way too tight all the way around. Unfortunately I removed tags and washed them before trying them on (my bad) so I cannot return them.

Nice shorts but would be much improved with an elastic waistband. As is, the cord loosens easily and I have to re-tie it before the shorts fall to my ankles.
