I absolutely love this jacket but I absolutely hate the zipper. I originally got the large but exchanged it for the medium. I'm probably a size 12. I live in new England in an ocean side community and find myself on the shore often. This jacket does the job in low temps, with low windchills. I usally wear a long sleeve t-shirt, or add a vest is its really cold. It is awesome for the weather. The zipper gets stuck constantly. If I didn't love the jacket so much, I would send it back. All in all, the performance of the jacket itself is great. The zipper; not so much.

Strange. I hit four stars and the next window indicated five. Not correct. The design is superior. My only concern is the delicate outer shell. Easily punctured. Still, grateful to be warm!!

I got a medium which fits fine except for the hood which was too large. I sewed up a big pleat in the back of the hood to reduce the bulk and that has worked fine. It is warm and comfortable.

I had a Winter Warmer from 2003 that was 650 fill down and was very warm. I bought this coat to replace it after the zipper died. It's not windproof or waterproof and needs a fleece or silk layer below 30, but I wore it today at 20 degrees and was warm. Spoken by someone who lives in New England and is always cold.

The jacket is absolutely beautiful but the sleeve length was just too short for me. I ordered it in Medium and Large and found that issue with both sizes. Returned both :(

I love everything about this parka except the pockets aren't deep enough and the hood is difficult for me to control. It falls down over my eyes.

This parka is nice and warm for the New England winters. Seeing as my gym is still closed this year and I plan to walk outside more this winter, I am satisfied with its warmth, styling and functionality. The sizing was perfect: I ordered MP, as usual, (I am 142 lbs and 5'2"). I wanted to give this parka 5 stars, but did not for one reason: it had a slight smell to it - as though it had been worn once before and the owner had held a wet dog...I almost returned it because of that, but thankfully after going over it with a slightly soapy sponge and aired it out in a sunlit room for a day, the smell subsided and wasn't nearly as noticeable. I also plan to put it in the washing machine once I take the tags off in the near future, as I am probably going to keep it because it is otherwise a quality jacket, however; LL Bean - please be a bit more careful by going over your returned items more thoroughly and rid them of any odors before re-selling, as I almost returned it because of this.

Very warm and waterproof! Great coat to keep me warm and dry! I love the hood. It shields the wind from my face which is helpful for cold early morning or evening walks with the dog. I also like the longer length covering my butt and keeping me warmer.
I would have given 5 stars but the pockets aren't as deep as I prefer and the
zipper gets caught at times. Not a big deal just annoying.
I do love the black and am happy with the purchase!

I love the color, fit and warmth of this parka. The length is great at mid thigh so it isn't constricting but covers well. However, the hood is so large that it comes down over my eyes, and the snap at the collar area is nearly impossible to actually snap.

I really love this parka and it is very warm. I wish it was a bit longer so it covers the bum if you sit down, bit that's my only complaint.

I love my LLBean jacket. I love the buttons, the fit, and how warm it is. I do have one issue however, the jacket isn't THAT black. It's black, yes, but also very green. It has a very green undertone in my opinion and it isn't like a nice smooth puffy jacket material. Still love it though! I am very glad I bought the jacket and it came 3 days after I bought it, superb shipping!

Very nice, very warm. Good for Minnesota winters.
Only concern is that the second zipper gets caught on the fabric fairly easily and I'm worried about tearing it.

I received this a few weeks ago, and while it hasn't been less than 23/24 degrees (so far, I am in Boston) I haven't been freezing while out with my dog. I usually have on a t-shirt underneath a fleece or light sweatshirt, and it fits fine with my usual size - I ordered a Medium, I am 5'9" and a 10/12.
Several reviewers said they wished the pockets zippered so they would stop losing things, and they DO ZIPPER!!! The outer part is just a snap, but there is a zipper compartment on both sides and that is where I put my phone and keys.
Being my height, the only thing I don't like is that I feel like I am wearing an "empire waist" after I pulled the strings on the inside to keep it snug (and give it some shape). I wish it cinched in a bit lower, but so be it. Also wish the sleeves were an inch longer, but what can I do? All in all, a nice coat for the price (and with a detachable hood)

Very warm and comfortable, however the pockets are very shallow and in an awkward location so my hands don't fit in them.

If this parka had been made with deep zippered pockets, I would have given it five stars. I like the material, it keeps the wind out and it is warm, but the pockets are shallow and close with snaps not a zipper. It's not especially stylish, but if you want warm..

Overall I love it! It's warm and flattering. My one complaint is things fall out of the pockets very easily when you bend down or sit down. There is a zipper pocket inside the pocket which is great for keys but I have lost larger items like my phone a few times now

If I could rate this slightly below 4 stars I would, and I recommend it, but with reservations. I will preface this review by saying that I received this at a fairly significant discount, through a combination of a promo code and Bean Bucks, and had I paid full price, I might possibly have returned it. I'm also fairly certain that I was sent a returned item, although it's possible that it may have shipped from the Freeport store (as opposed to the warehouse.) There are always subtle indicators of this sort of thing, weird folds and packaging, and this was backordered and not supposed to be available for another month, and upon receipt I checked the website and the in-stock date had been pushed back several more weeks. And yet I received it. I will start with the positive aspects of the coat: I do really like the overall style/appearance and I will keep it. It really does look great (aside from the hood, more on that in a minute.) I got the kelp green color, which is a nice muted almost-neutral color which is quite versatile. It's just the right length to keep me warm, but allow me to move. It has an inner drawstring at the waist, a feature I always appreciate, as it allows me to make it more fitted and feminine in appearance. Also, for me, the outer pockets are positioned just right to be very comfortable and functional, and there are a variety of adjustments on the coat. It is also very warm and comfortable, although we are having unseasonably warm December weather here in New Hampshire so I haven't worn it in truly cold winter temperatures yet. Now, the negatives - as soon as I pulled it out of the bag I noted some small feathers coming out at seams, which is disappointing, and may be related to it having been tried on previously (speculation, of course.) Aside from that (or related to that) the main con is that the outer fabric is extremely lightweight and flimsy-feeling. I was surprised, as I recently purchased another (longer) down parka from a different major outdoor retailer, and the fabric on that was heavier and more durable. The fabric on this has a rip-stop pattern, and yet a slightly dry finger run across it snags. The fabric is very soft to the touch in a way which is unusual for fabric on outerwear. It just seems like the most minor abrasion would rip right through it and I suspect it will pill after awhile, but only time will tell and perhaps I will be pleasantly surprised. I did confirm that a small amount of water will bead up, which is nice, as the fabric did not appear to be water-resistant. The other (minor) cons are that the hood is huge, and I am above-average height and don't have a tiny head or short neck. There is no way to have it fit as it fits on the model, despite it being adjustable. Additionally the sleeves are a bit short and the cuffs tighten with snaps but have no inner ribbed cuff. This is a drawback for a heavy coat meant to be worn in cold weather. I would say that the sleeves are just long enough for me to keep the coat, but shorter than would be optimal. Overall, it has a flattering and versatile style, good for most environments from urban to rural, but I have concerns about the durability.

The coat fit perfectly but the hood was way too big. I needed the hood to fit so I had to sadly return it.

The jacket itself is fantastic; however, the hood DOES NOT stay on. I have to snap it back on multiple times every day. I hang my jacket by the hood and not by the tiny loophole or using a hanger. I'm thinking of asking a seamstress to sew it on for me. Using a zipper in the design would have been better.

Love almost everything about this parka. I'd been looking for a long time for a down parka with a removable hood which I didn't realize would be so hard to find. I'd ordered from other retailers but couldn't find anything I liked. This one checked most of the boxes. I would suggest an extra interior pocket and a little bit deeper hand pockets. I've had things fall out so I try to remember to use the snaps to keep stuff inside. There is an interior zipper pocket inside the hand pockets but I forget it's there. Thank you for making a parka with a removable hood. I usually wear a hat and don't need the hood but good for raining days. Yesterday was the first chance I had to wear it out in the rain (light rain) and the water did bead so that's good. I've worn it out in cold temps (high 20s) and stayed warm. I understand why people have problems with the zipper. I realized that it is actually on the wrong side (for me). All my other jackets have the pull on the right side. This one is on the left and takes some getting used to. Like the longer length. I'm 5'4" and it hits me mid-thigh. Would definitely recommend.

Was looking for a not too puffy puffer coat - this fit the bill! I got the XS and it fits just right. I'm usually a XS/S. Smaller chest size 34B and I can wear a semi bulky sweater under it and still have room. I got it in black and it's so sleek! Goes with almost everything. Definitely would recommend if you need a solid winter coat that still looks really cute.

The coat is nice it's a little tight but fits good. It's not heavy like other down coats. The material is good it's not the light nylon. Im pleased with my purchase.

Nice an roomy. I like the fact that I can pull the hood to tighten it. I also like that I can remove the hood. The body of the coat is nice an warm but the arms arm not as full or as warm. That's why I didn't give it 5 stars.

This parka looked very well made, the pockets were low that's mainly why I returned it. Otherwise a very nice, well made parka!
