I've had several pairs of Altra shoes, because once I got my first pair they are all I want to wear, because they don't squeeze my toes together into an unnatural position. I wish I had been wearing these all my life. I walk several miles a day, sometimes in town and sometimes on mountain trails, so good shoes are important to me. I've had a few pairs of Altra shoes wear out prematurely, apparently due to inferior material. They wear holes at the point where my foot bends at the base of the toes, while the rest of the shoe is still in good shape. That area bends back and forth as I walk so I can see why holes would wear there, but I have never had shoes wear holes in that area as prematurely as these did. Only a few of my Altra shoes wore holes like this; others lasted as long as I expected shoes to last. I can not say if this most recent pair will wear out like that. The first few pairs I got had hardware for attaching gaiters. I like this feature because the gaiters keep little rocks from getting into the shoes on mountain trails. But it looks like they stopped making shoes with that hardware, because I can't find any that have it. Overall these are the best shoes I have ever worn, even in spite of the two complaints I have. I hope they will consider remedying these problems.

I've had numerous pairs of Altra Lone Peaks and these are my favorite pair so far. I've been generally happy with all of my Altras and my only real complaint has been the overall durability. These definitely seem to have improved in that area. The tread is great on steep scree and hard packed surfaces. Some people say they aren't true to the original Altra toe box shape but they seem about the same to me. I have the brown ones and think they look really cool. I actually wear them as my daily drivers off the trail. Another complaint I've seen here is that they're too hot, but they don't seem any hotter to me, and I've been putting in some mega miles in 80-90 degree temps lately. Perhaps it's my mountaineering background and I'm used to heavy, bulky boots, but these new Altra Hikers seem like slippers to me. I'd actually ask Altra to make a 100% leather version in the future -- with Vibram soles.

Purchased these for my husband and he is obsessed. Says they're the most comfortable shoes he's ever owned!

I could wear these all day from the first moment I put them on. They are the first shoes I have ever worn the fit correctly and comfortably. I have really wide feet and some deformities that make it difficult to fit, but I finally found my go to shoe, for everything.

So I wrote a pretty critical review about " all weather," don't like speed hooks or space of collar around ankle and of course lack of Gator trap. This shoe however I put on did 6 miles in the Mojave, washes, hills, desert. Then went to mountains and did another 6, steep trails, down hills, rocky washes. If travel wasn't a factor felt they would of been fine for double that mileage. Now did make a gator hook up on both all weather and hiker. Just stick velcro on heel and used Altra gators. Not as good as Altra gator trap but worked. So fit on ankle of hiker is better than all weather. Feels really nice on ankle. The only thing that I didn't care for was the laces. They are thin and twisted easily. Did use lighter socks, shoes do squeak a little but right out of box twenty plus miles in three days and that only cause of time restrains. I like them. But please bring back gator traps and loose the speed hooks on all weather. I can change laces if you can't put decent ones on.

I usually wear 12 I bought 12.5 (fits well and I think a 12 would fit well too). I love this shoe! Super comfortable and looks great. Buy it without hesitation.

I've been using these hiking and work for the last few month. I have roughly 400+ miles on the first pair and the treads worn down to the point that I no longer use them for work but still enough tread to keep them for hiking. They've held up well and are ridiculously light, perfect for anyone who walks an average of 10+ miles a day.

I ordered a men's 10, though my usual size is a women's 11, because sizing is small. The shoe I received meets all my hopes and expectations, really comfortable with a good gripping sole.

Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)

Runs NarrowRuns Wide
Poor SupportGreat Support
Have worn Lone Peak Mids for many years, still breaking these in, but upfront observations, toe box looks a tad narrower, good ankle support, and fit is still good. Look is better, more like a hiking boot. Just as comfortable as previous pairs, but the proof will come in about 50-100 miles from now...

First note, size up about 1/2 size. These shoes are super comfortable and provide the roomy toe box that is expected with Altras. There's enough padding to support the foot but not too much to prevent the feet muscles from working. There's plenty of support on and around the ankle, great traction as well. They are VERY light. Laced up the stay fairly lean against the foot/leg, not bulky like most hiking shoes. I love the look, it's slightly retro.

This-boot is excellent design, it's functionality is good on my foot, which is not necessarily that wide, relatively speaking.(very flexible non-restricting, but definitely rigid enough and provides stability in the right places such as in the heel area. "The 4-foot area" for my liking needs to be "more ergonomic" more anatomical, more biomechanics-correct "oblique~toe-box integrated with the forefoot area!!! the people who study this stuff, no that there's more bones in the human foot than the rest of the body, it's very dynamic yet compact,(I found this out the hard way by ruining my feet and back and knees as grunt-infantryman in the military, where the average amount equipment that you are caring is about 80 pounds. in cheap government combat boots(the construction was good ) The design was against human anatomy in every way toebox restrict , heel area off, balance-elevated. "Diametrically opposed footwear", torture chambers for human beings, foot. I know that Altra is a relatively young footwear company but it's a ~teenager now~you need to start thinking more dynamic population and who!!!! was your original customer base people who like space in the toebox box area and 4foot area with no exaggerated heel(basically come out with a wider foot shape or even extra wide, happy New Year's:)

These are like the Ugg equivalent of lightweight hiking boots, but I kinda live that. Needed to get a size bigger than I usually wear and they are great for running around. When it comes to anything technical or rocky, I wear Salomons.

Loved my first pair of Altra lone peaks. The pull tab on the back broke early on though so glad to see a new pull tab style, more sturdy. The toe box on this new model feels narrower though.

Amazing shoe when you buy half size up I can wear them everyday!!! Only down side on a low bed closer to the ground taking them off is a bit of a tackle and twice it has sling shot my foot taking them off direct hit to the family jewels, never in my life did I think I would ever do this to myself but it really happened! Aside from the freak accident amazing show to hike I strongly recommend

I liked the hiker, it was more pliable. I have been wearing Lone Peaks for about 10 years. Switched to the Lone Peak hiker ( high top ) 2 years ago; loved the first pair completely. The pair I have now ( hiker 2 ), I love them the same, just harder to get on. But once on, they're perfect. I won't ever wear anything else. ( I read some comments that they were to small ) I always buy half size bigger because I hike and walk a lot.

I've been hiking in and wearing them casually here and there for 2 months now. Love the light weight, forget you have them on your feet, feel. I did have to size up 1 full size for proper fit. So far no durability issues with mine and I'm not easy on anything. The biggest complaint I have is the lack of speed hooks. Not sure who made that call but you suck. Overall very happy with them and they seem like a well made boot. Did I mention how incredibly light they are?

Big fan of this boot as it is the only comfortable boot for my bunions. Unfortunately new version really hurts the toes, took a month or so of wearing to know so they sit in the closet now. Feels like your toes get pushed forward. Still a fan but I hope they revise this.

The previous model was stellar and this model is just okay. Altra seems to be fiddling with its designs and the product is getting worse, not better.

I would definitely order 1/2 size larger than fit. Hard to get on. Has to release strings way down the shoe to get them to pull them on to my feet.

I am on my third pair of the low cut lone peak shoes and thought I might like this hiker version assuming it is similar. It is not similar enough. The sole is thicker and cushier which is not my preference and at the toe crease these dig into my foot just enough it seems like it would be a problem if I wore them for any amount of time. The overall sizing and fit though seemed right so I didn't try another size. I'll add that I got the same size as my lone peak shoes and that seemed right so there is some consistency in sizing between shoe and boot. I returned the boots.

Own a previous pair in a size smaller & fit great but were not stiff enough for ankle support. These look good & have the support but are very tight at the top & sides of the widest part of my foot.

Great boot. After 8 to 15 long hikes the heel cushion collapsed with my way I heel strike. The grip is fantastic.

I have wide feet and bunion issues and these boots felt good and wore well on the trail. However after trying two sets of boots, both times lace hooks pulled out right out of the box. I contemplated keeping them anyway since I cannot find a lightweight hiker that accommodates my foot but could not justify spending the money on a defective product. Also, lacing and pulling on the boot was made unnecessarily difficult due to the lack of speed hooks for the last two lacings, like the Timp Hiker. The Timp was better constructed but did not fit my particular foot as well. Hopefully Altra will address the quality and minor design issues for an otherwise good shoe.

Not as wide as the regular lone peak shoes which is disappointing, they are good shoes those. I probably wouldn't buy them again. Hopefully the next gen are wider. They are still really good shoes for quality though.
