The shoes performed great in icy conditions. They also performed very good in a couple inches of snow. They were comfortable right out of the box. Each run was with winter socks and had duration of no less than 1 hour in 18 -22 degrees Fahrenheit and my feet remained toasty!

Great, durable, lightweight trail running shoe for wet/cold conditions in late late fall/winter. IWaterproof checks out, but still breathable (unlike Adidas Terrex where your feet sweat and shoes are way too heavy/bulky). This is my second pair of GTX, I wear Challenger 8 (non-waterproof) during the warmer/dryer spring/summer since this past year. They are less expensive than the Mafate X, and I don't need the carbon plate or the heavier Vibram sole. Challenge 7 is about 2oz lighter if that matters to you. I run 3 to 5 miles, five times a week, on the smaller, off trail paths in Middlesex Fells Reservation that are steeper with a mix of gravel, dirt, lots of roots, and jagged rocks. I size up, 1/2 size for heavier socks to keep warm in freezing conditions and snow cover. I used to wear the much more expensive Nike GTX trail running shoe and HOKA is much better: more stable & comfortable, ankle/heel cushioning +++, but still responsive, strong grip, and snug/solid fit. HOKA Challenger 7 GTX last longer too. The upper fabric especially the front upper area & toe box is way more durable and better designedresists tearing from branches, sharp rocks, etc. Dear Nike: you can add all the Gore-Tex you want, but if the fabric tears, even with one hole, your shoes are done. Anyway, I found the perfect trail running shoe with the Challenger 7 GTX. Really can't ask for more.
nb. For those with delamination issues, you're running on trails/conditions where you need a VIBRAM sole which is gonna be heavier and more expensive.

I have GTX model, that are a little stiff in the upper part of the shoe and loose, but that is typically what you get when you purchase GTX. Sole is comfortable and solid. I did replace the insert with a Super feet Hiking insert.

My 3rd pair, not that I ran that much, but I do run. I just did not want to miss out when they are not longer in stock, I have purchased the Arahi for awhile in the past but the latest ones are no longer serve my purpose, once I tried the challenger 7 felt great and more movements. bought a 2nd and had to stock up the 3rd, Thank you

Fantastic shoe. I wear a pair of Bondi 8's or 9's everyday so these are a spot on match to them. I did find these to run a 1/2 size smaller so instead of my normal 10.5 in the Bondi, I had to go to 11

The Challenger 6 GTX was my first pair of Hokas and the ones that made me fall in live with the brand. So I was excited when the latest version came out - as I have completely worn the outsole, on my initial pair, flat - from 3 years of regular lunch hour power walks and weekend hikes. I'm loving the updates so far. 25 miles of smoothe transitions from pavement to trails. Best shoes ever!

The color is awesome! Trying to break them in as they are stiffer material than the Clifton's.

I've put about 50 miles so far in these, 90% of it has been in snow and off-road conditions. First half marathon was 4,000feet of snowy and wet dirt roads. The gortex keeps my feet cool and also dry. Snow, puddles, and pavements these shoes feel great.
Toe box is alittle tight but I feel like it gives me more control responsiveness so I think it's actually a plus.
