If you have wide feet, be very very careful about this shoe - This shoe has a great look, and feel very unique on. The sole almost feels like it is massaging the feet during wear. HOWEVER....after three weeks of walking back & forth to work (50 minutes each way), my feet REALLY hurt. The big toe and ball of the foot below the big toe feel like they have been squished in towards the other toes. I have to pry the big toe away from the others each evening and massage and pull to get them feeling normal again (I don't wear the shoes any longer). I just called Mephisto and they asked if I have wide feet. I said I do. They said that is why I have the pain: the stylish look makes the shoe narrower than their others, and even though they did not feel too narrow at all, obviously they were. Funny thing is that it did take a while for this all to happen...must have been happening a bit every day and I didn't notice it until it had reached this stage. Mephisto say it is not their responsibility to advise retailers about this...

Not a good quality shoe - I bought this shoe in Loden Suede. It really is the cutest, most comfortable shoe. However, the stitching on one of the shoes began to unravel on the second day of wear. A shoe this expensive should not have this problem!

not as comfortable as expected - I purchased this shoe for a week-long trip to Paris. I was seeking comfort and style. The shoe looks great. Evan after enduring a few rain storms, the color and finish were outstanding. I was very disappointed by the lack of comfort, however. The balls of my feet and toes were especially uncomfortable - felt uncushioned/unsupported. I have never worn Mephisto before, so I can't compare. My Arches sandals served me very well on the same trip. Also my daughter wore a pair of Mephisto sandals with a cork sole and she was very happy. Her walking shoes for the Paris trip were Merrell. For the price difference I think I will try Merrell for my upcoming trip to Israel.

So Crazy In Maine - This is a great looking shoe as well as comfortable. When I saw someone else wearing these, I had to get them. I do feel the price is much too high for this shoe and can't see why it is priced so high. The fit is great and there are adjustable straps to snug up the fit as well if needed.

A good shoe, though doesn't feel great barefoot--too many seams. While more stylish, this shoe doesn't seem to have the same level of quality as Mephisto's traditional shoes have.

I bought this shoe specifically to wear with a low "footie" rather than a full sock. I chose the style because I wanted to pair it with skorts or capris or other outfits where tennis shoes look too weird. But, there was no way for me to wear this shoe without a sock because the leather tab on the back rubs relentlessly on the back of my ankle. This was regardless of how I tried to adjust the heel strap. Very disappointing. The shoe runs larger than the size (longer and wider), and the insoles were terribly flat. For this price point and style I would expect an upgraded insole. I am returning these.

I was looking for a light weight option to a good tennis shoe for comfort walking. These did work for me, unfortunately. They weren't comfortable for my feet.

These shoes are not Mephisto, but one of their brands called Allrounder. The shoes had no arch support and were a good size too big.

I've owned Mephisto's before and found what great quality is like and they offered to resole. The Niro, being comfortable and fits my orthotic insert it is NOT the quality I expected from Mephisto. The suede rubbed off far too soon. The shoe bed is nothing but cardboard. They are a very stylish shoe and I've received many compliments, however, the quality is lacking, and the price does not justify the lasting non quality.

These shoes are very uncomfortable around the ankle and they are far less attractive on the foot than one would think from the photo.

I was really excited to try out this shoe, but was unfortunately disappointed. It was not nearly as attractive as the photo, it actually looked a little goofy (perhaps the blue color just didn't work). It was also quite loose, even with the adjustable band. The cushioning on the sole was also not very soft. Sadly, I had to return them and am on the search again.

SO very disappointing. I wore out my first pair of these that I got in 2008. Then they lowered the arch even more so I couldn't buy any more. Decided to try this time because they are no longer on the manufacturer's website--HOPING it was better. It was EVEN WORSE! All going back. So sad that manufacturers do not know people have actual ARCHES.

I thought I would love this shoe...but I didn't! I usually wear a size eight but had to go up a half size and it was much too big. The shoe didn't feel soft and comfortable on my foot. It is pricey, but this shoe is not worthy of the price. The style is great...thought I could wear it with Capri pants or leggings but...no. Returning them.

I have this same shoe from 2009, which I wear all the time. It had some arch; I add cushions to make it work. THIS PAIR has NO ARCH at all! I am shocked. I will no longer be able to order these online; I will have to go back to trying on shoes endlessly to fit my high arch--such a shame; I'll take my old pair to Europe and stop telling everyone I meet to buy this model.

I have had Mephisto shoes before and they rocked. But these are not the same shoe. They are built so well and solid they make my feet stink! I do not have issues in any other shoe, but am so disappointed in these! I know the company is reworking them but these are not their finest shoe. I recommend waiting until the next round comes out.

This shoe was an enormous disappointment to me. I took it on a two-week trip to Italy, planning to alternate it with a pair of Go-Lites. I ended up using the Mephistos as "in-air slippers" while the Go-Lites did all the hard work. The big problem was that the sole is HARD! And the amount of cushion is inadequate for long term comfort. The Mary Jane style offers no control for the toe area which means that there is slipping of the forefoot inside the shoe. Walking down an incline, your foot jams to the front of the shoe. The Mary Jane style is not good for rain (obviously) and it does allow in rocks, dirt, etc. The velcro sticks to socks. As a minor complaint, but still an annoyance, the threads of the fabric components started to shred and it began to look like I was wearing a cheap pair of shoes that was falling apart. I got these shoes on super-duper sale and thank goodness too because if I had paid full price I would have been VERY ANGRY. I'm really questioning why this brand costs so much and the answer that is provided elsewhere on this website is pretty lame and uninformative. If you must have Mephistos, I noticed that most major cities in Italy have a Mephistos store. Maybe they're cheaper in Europe? I didn't check. This won't be my brand.

I'm going on vacation in August and I'm looking for the perfect walking shoe--something that can handle both urban walking and light hiking. I want something that looks stylish and not like a pair of trainers or hiking boots. I'd heard good things about Mephistos and was really looking forward to my new shoes.\ They are very stylish and well-made, but that's where the good news ends. The edge of the shoe rubbed against my heel. No ammount of adjusting the straps kept it from rubbing. The shoes fit well otherwise, so it wasn't a case of a bad fit. I like a lot of arch support, and after reading reviews, I expected these shoes to have a lot of support. I didn't find that. I actually found the insoles to be quite flat--nicely cushioned, but without much support. The soles are very stiff, very little flex. I found the shoes awkward when walking up stairs because they had so little flex. This lack of flex in the sole made me feel unstable when walking, so I can't imagine being comfortable hiking up any hills in these shoes. They're nice shoes and many people love them. Maybe my feet are just weird. But they don't work for me, so my search for the perfect walking/light hiking/stylish shoe continues.

I've never had a foot odor problem until these shoes. They make your feet sweat. They are pretty comfortable, just need to wear them with socks.

Disappointed - I was so excited to try these shoes. I thought that because they were so expensive then surely they must be comfortable - wrong. The trim where the fabrics meet all around the ankle was incredibly stiff and scratchy! These can only be worn with thick socks or your skin may be rubbed raw. Too bad since I had planned to wear these as a walking shoe either without socks or with a footie.

I am only 30, but have back and knee problems from too many hours of intensive sports, and need a show with good support and cushioning. Several years ago I found an amazing (and young looking/funky) shoe from Rockport which were the most comfortable pair of shoes ever, and on which I got many compliments. Sadly, that was the only year Rockport made non-gradma looking shoes. I have since been scouring the stores for another such find, regardless of cost, and thought that I had at last found this in the Mephisto Niro (Allrounder). At first, in the store, they did not feel nearly as good as my Rockports, but I knew of Mephisto's reputation for quality, and so decided to bring them home to see how things would go. After 2 days of wearing them at home, I couldn't understand how these could be 'high quality, supportive and cushioning', except with an insert in them, granted better cushioning in the heel. The front cushioning (as mentioned in another review) is practically non-existent, and indeed, upon removing the insole, I discovered some cardboard-like material the entire length, and not much else...

Uncomfortable shoe - This shoe is very uncomfortable for the front part of your foot as there is no cushioning under the ball of your foot, but instead is a piece of hard cardboard and a thin insert. If you try to put in your own insole it doesnt fit well. The shoe is not Mephisto quality and I think they are getting by on the style only. This will be my last pair of Mephistos.

Dissapointed - I received this shoe as a Christmas gift from my sister. After wearing the shoe one day, the red suede is fading onto the white part of the shoe. I have e-mailed Mephisto, to see if this is a defective shoe or if there is a product to prevent this fading. I am waiting on their reply before I make my decision to return the shoe.

I really wanted these to work. They are just the type of shoe I have been looking for - something that would give my foot support but not be too hot. Well, they have NO support. I mean nothing! For the price of the shoe, I found that very disappointing. They seemed very cheaply made and low quality.

I have been purchasing these shoes for years and love them for any time plus travel. This pair the lining only goes half way down making a seam in the middle of the inner part of the shoe. This lining rubs my instep on both feet as it is rough. all the other shoes I have of this brand have smooth interior lining.
