These boots are great. Very warm and waterproof! I use them for hunting in cold weather and my feet have never been better... The size runs a bit small as I usually wear a size 10. Size 10 was too small so I returned it free and got a size 11 which fit perfectly. Great return service with no cost.

Very warm in high teens, much warmer than old boots. As temperatures drop look forward to warm feet.

Had them on in high teens and very warm. Much warmer than my old boots. They do run narrow, went up a size and still just in the edge of too narrow.

So far, so good. This was, unfortunately, the third pair I ordered. The first, a half-size up from my usual size was very tight. The second pair (a full size up) seemed promising but had a defect in the insole of one boot. I decided to give them one last chance and this time the boots seem to be the right size and free of obvious defects. I have worn them several times so far including in relatively deep snow and slush. The design is handsome and they function very well in terms of insulation and waterproofing. The tread seems to be providing a decent grip on slippery surfaces. I imagine that will improve after further wear. I will also mention that despite their hardy appearance, these boots are sleek enough not to pose a problem when driving.

These are warm winter boots but make sure you pick the right size. I live in Colorado's San Juan mountains and snowshoe at altitudes above 10,000' and temps in the single digits. With thick wool socks, my feet stay warm in these conditions. I normally wear 9.5 size, average width, but after trying them on, I went up to 10.5. A size 10 might have worked but I wanted lots of room for my toes and be able to use thick socks. These boots are replacing my Oboz Bridger 10" boots, which don't have enough insulation in the toes and are too snug in the toe box. The bulk of the Chilkats make it a bit clunky but not to a level where they a nuisance.

I am a tall woman who wears a US12 (womens). As it is impossible to find womens winter boots beyond size 10 or 11 in Canada, I have to resort to mens boots and decided to give these a try. The good: overall construction is great, the boots are well insulated and comfortable, and the tread seems like it would do really well in various winter conditions including icy trails. I purchased these for daily winter hikes with my dog, looking to replace an old pair of different North Face winter hikers I've had for 4 winters. I have no idea what the style of those is but I'd buy them again if I could. I live in the BC interior and conditions can be snowy and icy and those boots didn't even need extra spikes. They were amazing! I digressThe only negative I have about the Chilkat is the sizing, as this boot definitely runs approximately a size too short. My feet measure 28 cm in length and I was touching the front in the 11. If I size up more they'll be too loose in the heel, so the search continues. North Face, your gear is awesome, please consider making your womens footwear in sizes larger than 10 or 11.

First off, I had an original pair of the North Face Chilkat which I purchased in 2002, I loved them and wore them unitl they finally wore out last year. I live in Idaho and we have real winters here. Wore them almost everyday for many different uses including snow shoeing, hiking, Shoveling snow, and just wearing around in the cold. I have only worn the new boots a few times so my impressions may be a little biased. The Chilkat V does not feel like as quality of a boot. It is lighter, the soul not as stiff and the ankle height of the boot is a little too high for my liking. For a boot this high I would prefer that the lace up system be a little more adjustable by having hooks instead of eyelets from the ankle up. This would allow for a more custom fit. This is not a bad boot, it is comfortable and seems like it will be fine in the snow and works well for hiking. I just like the old style boot better. That said I don't know of a boot out there at a comparable price that does everything this boot will do, so if it meets your needs go ahead and buy it I would rate it 3 1/ 2 stars.

I had very high expectations for this pair of boots. They were snug and probably very warm. Unfortunately, they were too snug on my toes and toes were cramped. They were otherwise the correct size at 9.5. Sadly, I had to return them.

Nice looking boot, bought a full size larger to accommodate heavier socks, but boot was so small it seemed more like a women's 10.5 rather than a men's. Had to send them back.

My decade old Columbia boots finally split open and called it quits, so spent hours looking for replacement. These looked good and most reviews were positive, so decided to give them a try. Wear a size 12, but wanted more room for heavier sock and ordered a 14. Much to my disappointment, these are sized exactly like a 12, definitely NOT a US men's 14. They barely fit with the thinnest of summer socks. They're also only double stitched, unlike Baffins which are triple stitched. Left wondering if they'll hold up half as long as my now defunct pair of Columbias. Very disappointed as they're woefully undersized. Then saw they're imported from SE Asia, so that kinda figures. Much smaller people there. Would have returned but NF doesn't make anything larger than a 14...which is really a 12, people.

Unfortunately I had to return the boots because they were way too small. I ordered a full size larger than I normally wear after reading comments they ran small. Still too small. I liked the boots otherwise and will purchase a pair from a store where I can try them on.

These are reasonably comfortable, but on my first test in the snow at 25 degrees F, my toes got cold. While there is decent insulation on the soles and sides, there seems to little to none over the toe section. I returned the boots. They cost too much to compromise.

I try 11 size at the store, it was to big for me, but they don't have 10.5 size, so I order on line, but the 10.5 was extremely narrow, impossible to use, so have to return the boots and get my money back.
