They're going back. Huge waist. Admittedly my hips are bigger proportionally to my waist, but these shorts are unusually big in the waist. If they had removed 8 or 9 inches from the waist and I still would have had room to spare. Just for a framework, I am about 5'4", 125 lbs and wear a size 10 relaxed fit Double L jean. They are just about perfect everywhere. If you are built similar to a telephone pole; i.e., waist and hips almost the same, these would probably work just fine (no offense intended). I really liked the design. The fabric is thin and lightweight. The shorts had a very comfortable feel too them. I'm sure if the fit had been designed for a women with some hips, I really would have loved them.

Great, lightweight short. Based on the measurement/size guide I ordered a 16. I felt they ran a size smaller than labeled. So, back they went.

I've worn these shorts only once after the initial wash. I wore them biking on a soft bike seat, sitting at a painted wood picnic table, and on a polished concrete bench. The fabric is already snagged and pilled despite being "ripstop". I am still debating whether to return these, or demote to expensive gardening shorts. The fabric is VERY lightweight and stretchy-soft nylon, and dries quickly. The size 12 fit me (5'5", 145lbs) OK, and is even a bit roomy in the waist. Comfortable, but the fabric is too delicate for any activity that brings it into contact with normal surfaces. If you plan on walking or hiking with no sitting on anything but the most smooth surfaces, these may still work for you. BTW, these shorts are very similar to a pair of long pants I bought from LLBean a couple of years ago for wear during gardening, and those also snagged and abraded immediately. I'm giving the shorts only a "fair" review, as the durability is unacceptable.

I have to say that I loved these shorts. They fit well, we're comfortable and I loved the granite color. BUT.....they look 10 years old after about a month and a half of normal active wear. They are pilled across the back and on front leg creases. Basically at any stress point (and they are not tight on me). I have other shorts made out of very similar quick dry fabric that are over 5 years old and they show no wear. Very disappointed! I had planned on ordering more. Glad I didn't..

The front pockets are terrible - too shallow. Anything put in to these pockets will fall out. I'm always surprised shorts for women have really shallow pockets - The fabric is very thin - so if you put anything in the pockets they hang down. The size is larger then expected - I would have to order a size smaller then usual. Overall they looked good on, but the lack of function of the front pockets made them a deal breaker for me - too many other options out there to keep these - they went back.

Ordered the smallest size and I was swimming in it! LOL. Size not remotely accurate!

This is more of a note to LL Bean than anything else... PLEASE, start making hiking shorts in this same style/fabric in women's sizes. There are those of us who are larger who hike and are active and want appropriate gear. I'm only aware of one brand that makes hiking gear for larger ladies, and it's of horrible quality and fit. These shorts, as best I could tell, would be fantastic in larger sizes... they just need a bit of wiggle room that wasn't there in these shorts in this size for my body. As for the shorts themselves, the quality seems great, they have many, appropriately sized pockets for items that may be needed while out, and the shorts are a great length, hitting just above the knee on my nearly 5'4" body. I'm just sad that I couldn't keep them to truly test them out. The shorts themselves seem 4-5 star, but I'm only giving 2 because companies need to stop with the size-ism that runs rampant in active clothing.

The shorts fit and had nice pockets. The material, however, was see-through. I couldn't not only tell what type of underwear I was wearing, but the color. I sent the shorts back.

I have ordered and kept several pairs of LLBean shorts. These trekking shorts were not sized the same as my other shorts as they had a larger waist. I returned them and was not happy to have to pay for return shipping.

I have worn a size 6 for many years. These shorts were about 2 inches too large around the waist. I prefer a fabric with more nylon in it. Too light weight. Shows any bulges.

I wear a size four that, in fact, used to be called a six, but that doesn't matter. What does matter is that this size four was more like an eight, maybe a six in the hips but definitely an eight in the waist. If your really want to buy these very thin and unsubstantial shorts, order a size down. If you wear small sizes, like me, you just might be out of luck.

I wanted to like these shorts. They reminded me of other tech hiking shorts I have & love, but have been discontinued. First I ordered my normal size with LLBean, but they fit way to big. The legs looked like a skirt & I do not have skinny legs. Sent those back ordered the next size down. They fit tighter in the leg, though not as snug as shown on the model, which I had hoped. The real problem was that I don't think they are made for petites. I'm 5 ft 3 & like my waist to sit about 1 to 2 inches below my belly button. When I wore them like that the rear was baggy. When I pulled them up so my rear fit into the shorts correctly, the waist was 2 inches above my belly button. Sent them back. Loved the lightweight material & the tech aspect of them! Hope they come back in petites & more colors!

These shorts are one or more sizes off what they should be compared to other LLBean products.

These shorts are very light and comfortable but they are sized big. My worst complaint is that they started to pill after the second wash. They are so light and don't seem like they would hold up for very long at all!!

I have several pairs of these shorts and wanted to buy another pair for the summer. I am shocked that they are being discontinued. Please bring them back! I am rating them one star because they are no longer available!

The material is made of a very thin material and they were clingy. They felt cheap and were not flattering.

I bought these in 2020. As other reviewers have mentioned, the material pills, alot! The pills are worse on both legs of the inner thigh area. Very disappointing!

I bought these shorts in a olive khaki color last year on sale, and wore them only twice. This year the top snap ripped out, making them unwearable. Note: the shorts are a larger size than I usually wear.

I bought these shorts in May and was really disappointed in them. The waistband uses two snaps which is fine except for the metal part of the snap that is on the inside of the shorts. The is sharp and rubs against your skin. I have to tuck in my shirt just to be able to wear the shorts. This is the first item that I have had any issues.

I just purchased these shorts and the size runs larger than expected. However, the main problem with the shorts, the front pockets are way too shallow! I cannot put my car keys and wallet in the front pocket. My iphone 13Pro will not fit in my front pocket. I am returning the shorts, which is too bad because I liked all the other details about the shorts, such as, material, length, extra pockets.

Love the fabric but the style is terrible. Front had pockets are too shallow & back pockets are too high up to allow easy access.

Dissappointed. LLBean products often lean towards the large end of the spectrum, but these shorts are rediculous. I am hesitant to exchange for a smaller size since sizing is so unpredictable. I purchased another size 6 short along with these and they fit very well, if not leaning toward snug. The large shorts are lacking the adjustable elastic in the waistband which would have been invaluable.
