Nope, nope, nope. Too flat, too huge, too hard to get on. I felt like a lumberjack. Made my feet look ENORMOUS (I wear size 8). Soft supple leather, though. And I love how they grip the floor and make you feel like you can walk over/through anything -- however, NO arch support, and that is always the deal breaker for me.

These boots are very comfortable. They seem well built, but the leather is very thin and not of good quality. I think the overall quality was better when they were made in the U.K.

Very disappointed with this purchase. I ordered my standard size 12US/UK11, 1460 black smooth finish. I also have a different style of 3 hole docs the same size 12. Once I received the boots, first thing I did was to put in inserts. I ordered inserts as well, after reading reviews here. Then I tried to put them on, and I couldn't even get my foot in with them completely unlaced!! So I proceeded to pull out the insert, and double check that I'm not stacking it on top of a factory one. Nope, just as I received them, no insert (which is what I expected). I next tried putting them on without any insert, and the fit is VERY tight along the top of my foot were the laces start. This of course also means that it is squeezing the sides of my foot as well, along with coming a little to narrow in the toes. I have average size width for my shoe size, and never had a problem before. Sadly, they feel just about right in the length, and a little loose in the heel. That said, I feel that going another size up might give me some room in width (I'd hope), but then to long in length. I don't understand anyone who says they run big, as it's just the opposite (how heck does anyone use inserts?). All in all, I'm probably going to return them. Sad, because they are a good looking boot and I was looking forward to getting them. Still thinking it's weird at how tight they fit...but what can you do. Zappos was great, and even received my order early, so no issue there. I'll order from this site again, just never another pair of docs. These are getting returned in a few days when I have a chance.

I purchased these in the navy blue. The boots are really shiny and look almost plastic. The leather is very stiff; they will definitely need breaking in. I could only wear them for a couple of hours my first day in them. I will keep them, but I wish the leather was more supple.

I'm a pretty big fan of Dr. Martens in general, but found myself somewhat disappointed with these particular boots. I bought my usual size, and while the length and width were perfect (as usual), they don't lace up tight enough and are "loose" around the ankle. Going down to a smaller size might help, but then they might not fit my actual foot. Also, as others have mentioned, they've changed the pattern of the outsole. Overall, they look good and have good cushioning, but I can't recommend them.

A painful adjustment - I had a beloved pair of Docs like these years ago, and they were great, so I thought I'd revisit an old friend. The look is still the same, but I don't remember the break-in period being half as painful the last time around. This pair is, in no uncertain terms, the most painful pair of shoes/boots I've ever broken-in, to the point that I have to give myself a few days in between each wear. I don't know if that has anything to do with the shift in manufacturing from the UK to China (if you were expecting "The Original," you'll be disappointed), but these boots are absolutely KILLING my feet.

Size is a problem - Love my old brown Docs that I’ve had for years and tried to get a new one in black but size is a definite problem. I am a size 6 but the shoe feels at least a half size too big that I have to try and compensate for with thick socks and cushion inserts. Tried going down a size and that was just too tight. Also, this "smooth" leather is really stiff --- have keep stomping on the whole thing to try and massage out the stiffness. Finally decided to try the smaller size in the nappa leather which was way softer. Wish I had gotten this shoe in with that leather but too late now.

Leather not as high quality as the old UK Docs - These shoes look as good as the old Docs, but the leather is of a lower quality. I am hoping after they break in that they feel similar to the other Docs I have owned.

Whoever changed the kind of leather they use should be fired - I love my Docs, and my old pair was finally really destroyed, so I ordered the same style & size. The other reviewers aren't kidding--sometime between 1998 and now, they've started using leather that's extremely stiff and painful and nearly impossible to break in. I wore mine to a movie, thinking that the walk through the parking lot would be a good short first breaking-in, and wound up with shoes in the same rock-hard condition they started out in, and bleeding calves. Not blisters; skin scraped off the back of my legs. I've been spending some time every night hitting them with a hammer on the floor, which seems to be helping. Otherwise, they're still Docs and still awesome, but don't expect to be able to wear them right out of the box.

Legendary Price, but now Chinese Made? Have bought Doc's for over 25 years. They now make them in China and they are not the same. Wrote to the company and they said they had to move production to remain competitive. Unfortunately, these went from beautiful shoes made by craftsmen in the UK, to run of the mill Chinese footware. WalMart eat your heart out. Best part is, you still get to pay the premium price (just like the original Docs). Does this make sense?

I used to buy these years ago, and although the look is the same, the shoe has changed now that they are made in Asia, not the same quality they used to be. I think they run a little narrow as well.

Dr. Martens - They broke in very easily, within a couple of days. I purchased them primarily for riding my motorcycle, good thing because if you stand in them for to long you will definitely feel it. Overall, they perform well for what I purchased them for, so no real complaints here.

still trying to break in - I've been wearing these docs for almost 2 weeks now, and they still aren't broken in. They feel really stiff and continue to give me blisters. Originally I got my usual size, but had to go down one because they were too big. They still feel a little big, and make my feet look huge! I'm beginning to regret purchasing these docs, which is a shame because I've wanted a pair of red doc martens boots forever.

hasn't broken in yet - I've had these shoes for a month or so now and have worn them 3-4 times (for about 8hrs each time). They still haven't broken in so I'm reluctant to wear them. It's kind of annoying because the sole is very comfortable and stable, but the upper parts cut into my leg. One day last week I made the mistake of wearing these with ankle high socks (mistake!), and everyplace that rubbed the shoe (the back of my heel, the side of my shin) was rubbed raw, I am still wearing bandaids from that incident. However, because the soles are so good I'll probably keep them and wear them in the winter as winter boots, but I'll be sure to wear thick socks with them!

No half sizes! My shoe size is 10 1/2 so I puchased a size 11. I have to wear two pairs of socks and they still don't really fit! Plus, they make my feet sweat all day long. Although they feel okay for awhile, after a couple hours standing, my feet start to ache. If you normally take half sizes I'd pass on Doc's!

I ended up sending these back. I was very disappointed in the leather. It felt cheap and was stamped as Made in China.

I bought these boots back in 2007 and remember them being the most comfy boots I had owned. I hated having to toss them 3yrs later due to work specific contamination. Fast forward to 2019 and I decided to give them another try. Not the same boots anymore. **Note that my previous pair was not made in England either** Each boot has noticeable assembly differences which has caused one boot to fit tighter around the center of my foot compared to the other. I know these boots take a decent amount of time to break in, but I doubt that will change how these feel. I currently also own a pair of Danner Moc toe boots and it looks like these will continue to be my go to boots until I wear them out. Too bad it took a couple days of wear before I got the true feel for these Dr. Martens because now I can not return them.

I am so disappointed. I knew something wasn't right the moment I tried these on. After researching, I figured it out. Made in China. So much cheaper and more ill fitting than the authentic Doc's I had in the 90's. It's a shame.

The fit is fine. The style is fine. Dr. Martens has gone down in quality. The past two pairs of Dr. Martens boots I have ordered have cracked at the pinky toe area where the boot bends with the foot. I do not have sharp nails. The leather feels cheaper these days. Alas, no other boot compares. I love Dr. Martens' straightforward look, design, and function. But I'm seeking alternatives if anyone has ideas.

I've had a variety of Doc Marten's over the years, and the upper on these felt flimsy and the leather was thin. I've read reviews that suggest there is no difference between the "Made in England" version and those made elsewhere. I don't know if that is true. The existing pair I have are made in England and much sturdier. However, they are older so I don't know if that means the quality has just gone down generally. Even the toe box on these was relatively soft. I'm returning and will likely pay the extra and see if the Made in England version are still good quality.
