Alrtra is my favorite brand of shoe for my complex feet, the wide toe box keeps the shoe from rubbing at my strange sensitive spots.

These are the best pair of shoes I have ever owned. The fit is simply amazing. The arch support is perfect. The toe box is perfectly wide. Lots of cushion but still light as a feather (pretty sure there is some magic in there somewhere). I used these for everyday wear, and I could not be happy with my purchase.

I really love this shoe. The toe box feels really good. The traction is great - even on wet tile. The cushioning is great. It feels fun to go up and down loose inclines in these. I was looking for a trail runner for cold weather, so I really wanted to love the GTX (Gore Tex) version of the Olympus 5. But not only did I have to go up a half size (which I do for all Altras, it seems), but the Gore-Tex made everything just too tight. I wish Altra made more shoes in wide, but thick socks seem to work OK in these non-Gore-Tex shoes. I'm eager to see how these perform in colder, slipperier conditions. I predict the traction will be great, but cold wind and slush could pose some challenges. I also bought the Paradigm 6 for year-round power walking on pavement. Those also needed to be a half size bigger than my usual.

I am impressed with the cushioning on these shoes and the way they feel on my feet. I find that I have more endurance on the trails and have yet to experience shin spins, like other shoes have caused. The way they seem to mold to my feet and cause each strike to feel natural is remarkable.

The shoe has a super thick sole, is extremely comfortable, gives full support, and is good looking. Love the shoe.

The Olympus 5 is by far the best running/trail hiking/running shoe Ive had. In terms of comfortability it holds up for a 10 mile hike/run on any mixed terrain and my feet appreciate that I will continue to keep buying the Olympus series including the Olympus 5 again if I were to were this pair out. With the holidays around the corner this would be a pretty good gift for someone as long as you get the fit right, considering theres such a good variety of choices in sizing. Tim Bob gives it 5 Stars

I swear by Ons and have probably 5 pair. With that being said these are more comfortable than any Ons I have. Downside, they aren’t as stylish but still look good.
I'd also recommend:

These are my favorite Olympus to date. The look of this model is liken to the Bat Mobile. The fit is exact. The laces are unique but appropriate length. I have 50 miles on them and love them.

The Altra Olympus 5 might be the best trail shoe (or running shoe period) I have ever worn. The whole ride is just amazing!

Love these Altra shoes...very comfortable and the company is awesome. Buy shoes online, get them delivered, wear them and test them out. If they don't feel right send them back!

Hitting the rocky and rooted trails up in the mountains of northern UT. Great feel and cushion with wider toe box. Larger landing platform and rugged tread instills confidence on downhills. The material for the laces is different, but seems to work just fine.

I needed a pair of hiking shoes and bought these August 2022 from Runners Alley, in downtown Portsmouth NH (great store, btw). I usually wear 11.5 but size 12 fit best with these. They appear to be well made and are the most comfortable pair of shoes I've owned (and I'm 60 y/o). I weigh about 245lbs and my feet are a bit wider than normal. These shoes felt very good. The did not "roll" on their side as some other brands I tried on. Ive worn them everyday the past 10 days since Ive purchased them. Two of the days were spent hiking around the White Mountains and they've held up very well. This is my 1st Altra purchase and I will definitely buy another pair.

Took these up to Portland and put on a light 8 miles hiking up to Ramona Falls. I have the flattest feet and a bad right knee and I felt amazing for the entire hike . Without these shoes I definitely would've fell in the creek when crossing over a fallen tree !

This is a preliminary impression as I haven't put this pair through durability test yet. This is a fit and review on the changes that they made to the Olympus. I have put hundreds of miles on the 4s and have stock piled them for fear the 5 models would be redesigned to have narrow toe box. I am very relieved they left the width at the toe box wide. I have EE forefoot so I can tel immediately if they change dimensions there. The noticeable changes are the sole no longer angles out to add additional width. This is fine maybe won't ride as well on soft sand but won't clip my ankle occasionally like the 4s. The lacing is a 100% improvement so much easier!!! The heel and mid foot is more snug which for me means better stabilization and less slippage in the heel. The heel loop is wide and comfortable. The youngest has a tad more cushion. My impression is they made all the right changes. The only thing I feel is my usual size feels slightly shorter my middle toes tend to bump the front of the shoe so for long distance hiking I will need to upsize. These will be too snug for wearing toe liners and a darn tough over like I do with the 4. Thanks for not narrowing the toe box Altra I think this will be a winner design for many.

Within a few miles, I fell in love with the Olympus 5s. I have no issues with heel lock, although like others have mentioned, the laces don't have the "bite" when tied. My assumption is that with further use, the laces will break in. Either way, great shoe for me.

I hiked many a mile in the Olympus 4. The O5 has a way better heel feeling. Locks me in quite well! Overall the shoe feels a little snugger, but in a good way. The O4 felt a little too loose at times.

Great cushion + great traction = Olympus 5! The heel package feels plush, Vibram MegaGrip is super grippy on the trails, and overall a really nice update!
