I have had 6 pairs of Torins. Initially when I found this shoe I was in absolute heaven. They have destroyed what was formally the perfect running shoe. Stunned they continue to make the tongue so long and sharp this is just ridiculous and senseless. I've literally cut the tongue so that it doesn't grind into my leg. I still love this shoe but wonder if executives or designers read these reviews because this complaint has been out there due the past couple of models.

I have worn Altras for many years and used to love Torins. Increasingly Torins have become uncomfortable due to the narrowing of the toe box and the stiff tongue that cuts into my foot. It seems that they are being designed by non-runners whose goal is style, not running comfort. I have sadly switched from Altras to another brand. It is disappointing that these once wonderful running shoes have become so poorly designed.

I had high hopes, because I loved my introduction to the brand. These were my 5th pair of Torins in about 18 months. (3 pair of 4.5, 1 pair of 5 Luxe.) I do 6 miles a day, a mix of running and walking. With these, at the 4 mile mark, my back starts hurting. And now, after 50 or so total miles, the plantar fasciitis I haven't felt in years, is raging. Time to seek out a different brand, sadly.

I have ran in the Torins for years, skipped the 5 because of the tongue issue. The 6 tongue didnt bother me but they are so flat compared to the Torin Plush, everything in my body hurt! Ive never had my back hurt from running, these are a no go and I have moved on to other companies unfortunately. I love Altar's toe box but their quality has gone down. The side logos are now peeling off and these shoes have 35 miles on them! I have only tried them on short runs because I can tell something is off on them. Took them for a 6 mile recovery yesterday and I had to soak in the tub because literally my whole body hurt! Dont waste your money,

Wow, I could not DISCOURAGE these shoes more! I couldn't even get a mile in without my feet going numb. The tongue is sharp and cuts into your leg, the shoes are way too narrow and cut off circulation, and there is an unnecessary ridge under where the toes are that also cuts off circulation. The strange thing is that most components were tight/snug but length wise I wouldn't want to size up? Poorly made, and very uncomfortable!

Ugh. I love altra. I feel like they've been changing their designs so much over the last few years and are becoming less minimalist/wide toe boxy, starting to remind me of hokas.
Anyway, i wanted to love this shoe but I have a cut from the tongue on my left leg. Like...legit blood. I thought that maybe the reviews were being dramatic but they weren't. I hadn't even run in the shoe, just walked around casually. Returning the shoe.

I was really hopeful for these new Torins after having to switch to Topo after the last Torin cut up my leg. The tongue is not really different. I will say the cut/blister it gave me was less severe a wound than the last pair. The tongue still feels terrible though. You make a nice cushy tongue for the Paradigms so why you can't do that in the Torin!?!? I hold the shoe and it feels like cheap junk compared to the older Torins. It also feels more narrow. Much tighter on my foot. And the higher price?? I'm so disappointed. I don't understand how you can mess up a good thing so badly. REWIND ALTRA!

I have only run in them a handful of times and walked in them the other times and the soles are already coming apart. Definitely not worth the money if they can't handle regular wear and tear.

I have chronic back pain with a bunch of issues with my lumbar spine. Torin 4.5 Plush was the first shoe ever that was relieving to my back! So comfy, so soft and fitting to the foot without being too soft, wide design... all the new versions are terrible. I bought 5 and 6. Returned. Hard and cheap. Even the laces feel hard and cheap. Such a shame Altra. Don't fix was isn't broken and don't rip off your customers on using cheaper products. Don't even bother buying these. Please bring back 4.5 Plush model. I can't find them anywhere online in a 10w. Not even secondhand :(

After light use for just over one month, the sole of the shoe began peeling. Strips of rubber are just hanging off. I am very disappointed - I've never had this issue with any other brand and certainly not after such a short time period. To top off, the fit was very unimpressive and caused painful pressure points on the balls of my feet. I was excited to try this brand because of the wide toe box but it did not meet my expectations.
On a positive note, the shipping was very fast.

Sad to return these. I have worn Torins for years but did not purchase the last version because of the tongue issue. Was excited that it was potentially fixed with this one. The updated snug heel is great for my narrow heels, mid foot is also more snug and the lighter weight is great, but the tongue is a deal breaker. It goes up too high, cuts in and was bugging me just walking around the house. I have been wearing Provisions because they were the next best option but prefer something less clunky. Had my heart set on the Outroad until that was pulled, then the Torin. Fustrated that Altra can’t figure this out.

Let me say I am a big Altra fan. I have six pairs so far. Once I found zero drop, wide toe box, flexible shoes, my running took off. No more plantar fasciitis. In the process, I learned to tolerate the Torin 5 tongue because eventually it softened a bit and because I love everything else about the shoe. I awaited my Torin 6's with great anticipation as I assumed (wrongly!) that with all the customers complaining about the Torin 5 tongue, that SURELY the Altra development team would fix this known tongue problem. No such luck. The Torin 6 tongue made the frontside of my ankles bleed whereas the Torin 5 tongue just caused some minor discomfort. I wore my Torin 6's over the course of a couple of weeks and things just got worse, so I returned them. Sure they "created a softer feel by reducing material layers and extending a plush microfiber material to the top" as the phrasing goes, but they apparently did not allow for everyday, loyal customers like those of us taking the time to share our experience here to serve as pre-market testers because this shoe is a total fail. They literally made the tongue worse than before which is why I rate a one star. All I can say is while I wear my old Torin 5s and wait for the Torin 7s to come out, my Topo Athletic Magnifly 4s are on order!

I have run been running in altars sine 2014! I have logged 1000s of miles. I purchase at least 5 pairs a year. This last update you lost me. I went to altra and stayed with them because of the foot shaped design. But I'm sad this update is slimmer. My foot is cramped and why is there a wide option on a shoe designed to fit the foot shape!? I loved Torin for a long time. Sadly I'm on the hunt for something else.

I took my new Torin 6's out for a run and the tongues on both shoes were so painful they actually left huge sores on the top of my ankles and no, my shoes were not tied too tight! I have been a devote Altra Torin wearer (over 5 years) and I am very disappointed in this model. I've read that other users had problems with the tongues in the Torin 5's, but I never did until the 6's. Please make the 6's like the tongue on the Torin Luxe 5! Luckily I was able to find another pair of the Luxe 5's in my size, but I'm going to have to find a new running shoe if you don't fix the painful tongue situation.

Loved the Torin 4, my feet were in HEAVEN. The Torin 4.5 wasn't quite as comfy, but feet were happy. The Torin 5 was a train wreck of disappointment. The Torin 6 is worse and getting returned. Altra evidently doesn't pay attention to their customers or just ignores the reviews. I started with Altra because of how they built the shoe to give the toes room to do their job when running and walking. I had 2 bunions self-correct in the year I wore the Torin 4. The Torin 6 is toooo small and the footbed feels like it's super narrow and my toes were crunched not only at the tips but also on the sides. I'm sooooo disappointed. I started to cry when I put these horrible shoes on. Now I have to start over again to find a shoe that makes my feet happy. Good bye Altra!
