This is not my first flannel shirt from LLBean, but it is the first one where the fabric is itchy, definitely not the expected warm, cuddly flannel. It feels like I'm wearing fuzzy wrapping paper. Perhaps it is the extra dark dyes to create the Black Watch pattern, I don't know. What I do know is that the shirt is unwearable. As this shirt has been washed (in an unsuccessful effort to soften it), I am unable to return it, so I will probably donate it to a local Thrift Shop.

This was just delivered today.. It has a very strange cut, it's short in the arms and huuuuge in the actual body area. It's not very comfortable at all. Probably going to return or exchange. Was really looking forward to a new flannel :/

We have purchased the Scotch plaid flannel shirts from LLBean for years for my husband who wears flannel every day. I decided to buy a shirt for myself. The fabric seems thin, and after laundering I noticed a hole, about 1" in size, near where the collar joins the shirt. The sewing had been done poorly. Instead of going through the hassle of returning, I repaired the hole. The fabric also seems to be pilling. I'm very disappointed.

This shirt, although well-made is seemingly designed for someone with a huge gut. This shirt bulges out at the bottom, which can happen to poor quality shirts/sweaters over time. I did not expect this new, higher-quality shirt to flare out like this. I am not overweight and the flaring in the lower half gives the appearance of having a large mid section. I expected this shirt to be straight, not flared or fitted. I will now have to exchange for a fitted version at my expense for shipping. I am very disappointed as LL Bean has a good reputation but I now do not trust the company and will not order from them again.

Stripes do not line up. This is very noticeable all down the sides. The flannel is soft and seems very nice; however, I can't get past the workmanship.

I ordered two of these last year 2017. Within a few wearings both had bad pilling on the underside of the sleeves and eventually on the fronts.
Not good quality.

This is definitely not the same quality of fabric as previously purchased. Several years ago I purchased this flannel shirt in the Prince Charles Edward pattern and I loved it. Everything was great: the fabric, how it looked after laundering, the comfort, etc. This past year I have lost over 60 lbs and wanted to replace the size L for a size S. I read some of the negative reviews before ordering a replacement and a fair number of them mentioned the pilling after laundering, but thought that since the original Large had been a great success I would have equal success with a smaller replacement. Boy, was I wrong! As soon as I took the shirt out of the plastic bag and felt the fabric, I had my doubts. But I wanted to be fair, so I tried it and laundered it twice. Everything about the shirt is great (color, plaid matches up, size) except how it comes out of the dryer with pilling all over. Oh, how I wanted it to work out, but just don't want to take the time after every laundering it to shave or pick off the pilling. So as much as I don't want to do so, I will send it back, ask for a refund, and keep the old, too-large-now shirt.

In the past I've had no problem with the quality of any of the flannel shirts I've gotten before. But the sides and sleeves did not match up properly with design of the front of the shirt . Bad sewing and more of an eye sore .
Looked too dizzy

Washed in cold water and air dryer, but shrunk and pilled!!! Not the quality you expect for this kind of money. I'm sick and tired if prices going way up and quality going down!

I was so looking forward to these. The plaids were so pretty. LL Bean has such a good reputation for quality.
When I received them, the fit was a little larger than expected, but wasn't a deal breaker. The flannel was fairly heavy and seemed like it would be warm, but it was not as soft as I was hoping. I have sensory issues and can only wear very soft fabrics. From what I read about these, I was really hoping they would be soft enough. I was still thinking of keeping them and just layering a softer shirt underneath.
Also, as other reviewers commented, it is noticeable that the plaid pattern does not match at the seams. I wasn't thrilled with that at such a high price point, but still thought I would keep them.
However, the reason I decided I can't keep these shirts is that after I washed them for the first time, according to the instructions on the tag, they came out horribly covered in lint and pilled. I've never seen anything like it. I couldn't get it off with just a lint roller. I needed to get out my sweater shaver. I spent about 20 minutes on each shirt, shaving and lint rolling, to get all of the pills off. I wondered if it was a fluke, or something that happened on the first wash. I came back here to read the negative reviews and saw that quite a few other customers had the exact same problem with pilling, and that it got WORSE with repeated laundering.
That was the deal breaker for me. I can't deal with that every time I wash them. It's just way too much trouble. So I have decided to send them back. Really disappointed in the quality of these shirts.

I just recently lost a very large amount of weight and was sooooo excited to go clothes shopping. I have always loved LLBean but I could rarely ever find anything flattering in my size. Well now....now I buck wild b/c I'm smaller. Anyway-- I've dropped close to 3 grand over the past few months. The last purchase I made were two of these flannels. They arrived and were beautiful! I always wash first and followed the directions to a T. They are now RUINED!!!! They pilled.....they faded....they look 15 years old. I haven't worn them even once. I so wish I could return and start over again but I don't have receipts or anything. I would dry clean these ONLY. So sad.

Just washed my new Black watch plaid flannel shirt, on cold, dried on low heat and the sleeves are a full inch shorter, as is the body.

I purchased this shirt as a gift for my GF. She washed it before wearing it. It pilled so badly it looks like she's had it her entire adult life. Everything else in the load of laundry had to be cleaned with a sweater shaver. It is soft and warm but now can only be worn around the house it looks so shaby.

I have had several LL Bean shirts over the years and had always previously enjoyed their high quality, so I was excited to see this scotch plaid flannel shirt in women's sizes. I bought this shirt a little over a year ago but have hardly worn it due to poor quality.
The cotton is thin and poorly woven. It initially felt soft right out of the package but after the first wash, the softness just disappeared - probably along with whatever it was treated with to make it seem soft.
Despite following washing instructions, it shrunk significantly during its first wash and now fits terribly. After two washes the shirt began to pill badly. After minimal wear, the fabric around the collar shows very excessive wear - likely due to the poor quality cloth.
Cannot recommend this to anyone.

I washed this shirt for first time in cold water wash and cold dry. It shrunk about a size and the material developed pills and looked shabby like it was washed 50 times. Very disappointing. Looks like quality of the fabric blend used to make this shirt is poor/cheap.
Not up to LL Bean quality at all.

I'm completely disappointed with the quality control at LLBean. It must have changed within the past couple of years. One size in one top is different then the same top in a different color. If you buy this make sure you try it on first. I made the mistake and ordered a few things online in the same size, yet everything fits different. I don't have time for this so I'm shopping at Bloomingdales. They sell Rails brand that is always consistent.

I got this because is was so highly rated and was very excited to wear it when it arrived. I wore this right out of the package over a tee shirt and in two hours the inside of the sleeves were pilling. After a few more hours, I noticed more pilling on the sleeves and the sides where the sleeves rub. My husband ordered a men's scotch plaid shirt at the same time and also wore it that day, and, while his pilled some, it was not nearly as bad as mine. I washed both shirts together and his pilled a bit more, but mine looks really awful. My husband looked at it and commented that it looks like it is falling apart. I love the Scotch plaid and got this one in the Prince Charles Edward plaid, a nice festive plaid. I really wanted this and am so disappointed that after just one wearing and one washing it looks so terrible. Please LLBean, get better quality material that does not pill and look horrible after one wash and wear. Hasn't anyone else noticed the pilling? Is this shirt supposed to be made from the same material as the men's shirts? It does not appear to wear as well as the men's shirts.
