I hate writing less than a 5-star review on a shirt I've loved for decades, but the Vintage Tartan pattern that I purchased late 2022 is not the same quality I have come to expect. Instead of a thick, soft flannel that holds up wash after wash, the newer fabric is thin and developed a notably rough appearance after its first wash. By its sixth wash, it became too pilled to wear in public. Thinking I might have received an anomaly, I purchased the Royal Stewart Tartan last September, but it looks like that shirt will follow that same nappy path. Next fall, these newer flannels will be relegated to yard work or worn as a pajama top. By contrast, all of the Scotch plaid flannel shirts that I purchased up to 2015 still look fantastic. Given the price has doubled over that time, I expected to receive the same high quality, not a flimsy fabric where the collar tips curl up if I don't iron. I've never had to iron flannel before, where the heat will make the flannel flat and shiny. Disappointed.

I returned one of these and it was the softest flannel I've ever felt and I bought one just like for my husband and his was the same soft flannel but this one is NOT soft flannel and I even checked to see if it was made from the wrong side of the fabric but it wasn't. The one I returned was the wrong size or I would have kept it. I'm tempted to order it again just to see what fabric the next one is made from. What a big disappointment.

I have this plaid shirt and ordered a new one because mine is a bit worn. This new shirt is about 2 inches longer in the arms and hangs off my shoulders. Same size, in theory, same fabric, now made in a different country. Didn't the pattern go to the new country? It's like wearing my father's shirt. It's being returned. Very disappointed. Ordered 4 items, all going back. I don't know what is going one at LLBean but it's not good. Similar issue with other items that I've worn for years.

This shirt ran very small and narrow, then shrank more in the wash. Unacceptable for the price. Very disappointing

I just love the colors of this shirt, and LL Bean makes such high quality stuff - I really wanted to love this. But it fits like a maternity shirt. The arms and shoulders are perfect, and then the belly area of the shirt is huge. If you're pregnant or have a big mid-section, it'll be perfect. Looks ridiculous on me. Had to return it.

We ordered the darker blue, green black plaid flannel shirt for our daughter as a gift and we were very disappointed in the color when received. It is somuch darker than the catalog picture of the exact same shirt as well as the website photo of the plaid shirt!. So disappointing since we love the quality and softness of the plaid shirts. There should have been more blue and green hues in the shirt when producing it. we do not recommend this particular plait shirt for women; much too dark and it looks all black with No color.

Looks great and fits great when received. Then wash it, color kind of fades a bit and it really shrinks.

I bought this flannel shirt in Large and it fit perfectly. Washed it in cold water, dried it on Low and it shrunk and the fabric felt thicker! This hasn't happened with LLBean flannel shirts in the past but if you buy one, order it larger than your normal size. I'm so disappointed because I was looking forward to wearing it during the holidays.

I was very excited with the colors of this flannel shirt as it can be worn with a multitude of lighter colored shirts underneath, however, now I am embarrassed to wear after only two machine washings (turned inside out to keep from pilling) and only tumble dried on low for 15 minutes each time and now the colors are totally faded and the shirt is pilling and looking like it needs to be retired! So disappointed! Seems like I am only having problems with the ones I purchased made in SriLanka being lighter weight and a more poor quality cotton.

I wore this shirt once and washed on Cold and line dry so it would not shrink. I went to iron before wearing today and noticed pilling on the material. I have Scotch Flannels from previous years and never had this problem. They were washed the same way and look newer than this shirt after only one washing. It's disappointing since I really love the color of Antique Dress Stewart.

Heavy enough to keep you warm but doesn't weigh you down. Great fabric.

I wore this shirt a couple times and washed once, and then noticed that it is not really seen well at the seams and has a hole. On a positive note, the material is a good weight, soft, and warm. I am 5'5", 115# and purchased the Tall Small to have some extra length. I am happy with the length, fit is roomy enough to wear over a hoodie. Just disappointed that the construction is sloppy.

The color wasn't as depicted in online pictures. To return the item cost me over $10! Not happy.

I have been shopping at LLBean for over 40 years. Over the past handful of years I've watched the quality of so many women's items diminish. Shirts are cut narrower and shorter than the exact sizes of the same items from just a season or two ago. I sent this shirt back as it was too small - even in an XL. My usual size is M-L. I do appreciate your return policy as I've sent back many more items than I've been able to keep - especially this past year. I know it's way too much to hope that a good thing stays good. Bean is no longer my go to for basics. Sad.

I love the look and feel of these shirts, however, they shrunk and pilled after 1st wash. I will be sending these back, not sure if I should exchange for larger or shop elsewhere. With the pilling, they now look old.

I'm so frustrated! I'm a frequent Bean shopper and have to return shirts I bought for me & Christmas gifts for a relative because of sizing. Womens Xl tall is the size of many shirts I have but the three I just bought are tight in the shoulders and too short in the sleeve. The mens tall large I bought as gifts have the same problems while others he has are exactly the same size and fit beautifully. The fabric is fine and I just hope there's no problem in returning, like no money back just store credit.

This is a good looking shirt - from a distance. It started pilling after the first time I washed it, even though I turned it inside out when I washed it and followed the washing instructions. I'm very disappointed. Several years ago I ordered a flannel shirt from LL. Bean and it was made of a much higher quality cotton than this one. In fact, I still have the old one and it has held up really well. It actually looks nicer than the one I recently purchased.

This shirt was not what I expected. I wanted an easy care flannel comfortable shirt. The care instructions say you must hand wash or wash in cold water, hang to dry and do not iron or dry clean. Never had a flannel Like this. I ignored the do not iron because hanging it to dry made it look to wrinkly. It's expensive and I Would not buy it again

I bought one of these flannel shirts 4 years ago, and love it, wanted another. Didn't realize they're "relaxed" now, as the one I have is tailored in at the waist, which I love. No matter though, as the fabric is not nearly as attractive as the same pattern I bought before, the shirt is way too big and sleeves too long, even though I used the measurement chart on the website. I'm disappointed!

I'm only 5'9" and ordered the prince charles Edward in medium tall. The sleeve length was above my wrist when straight. I don't know what's going on because I have previously worn this style (same size but in Black Watch) and there was sleeve length to spare. Overall there seems to be quality control issues, as I had to return the black watch because it pilled in less than a year, the "black and white" scotch plaid turned out to be black and ivory, and now this one had fit issues. Too bad because I love how thick the flannel is.

very thin material compared to other flannels I've purchased from LL Bean in the past. Quality is definitely less than before. It was also way too large
