I have this shirt in 4 colors. The last one I bought online is horrible due to its color 'Royal Stewart Tartan'. It is an extremely dull, faded and old-looking color. Looks like it has been washed and bleached time and again. As I ordered it online from overseas, there is no point in sending it back, so will give it to charity over the holiday season.

Very pretty colors but like many recent Bean products for women, not as relaxed as previously. My older Bean button front shirts fit with an easy and ample feel. Not so this one. I can wear it like an open jacket but buttoning will be a stretch. Undecided if I'll keep it or pass it to a smaller relative.

love the weight & style of the shirt. But was disappointed by the amount of "fuzzy lint" the shirt leaves. Washed it three times in hopes of reducing the lint but will have to be careful when I wear as I don't want t to have lots of lint appear on my turtleneck!

This is a beautifull pattern. It is plaid and the plaids do not match on the side seams, arms etc. This tends to cheapen the shirt. I have not be pleased with the purchase.

I've bought two of these relaxed flannel shirts. I bought the first one this past summer (2019) and the second one a week ago. The first one has the plaid matching at the side seams. The second one doesn't. This is always something I look for with plaids, as mismatched seams drive me a bit batty. I assumed the second shirt would match as the first one did. Buyer beware -- I'm not sure if all of the shirts no longer have matching plaid at the side seams or if the second shirt I got was an exception.

I hate to leave a complain-y review but I do really love LL Bean and, like plenty of other Mainers, have a clichd desire for the way the company used to be.
I have an LL Bean women's flannel that I bought probably around 5 or 6 years ago that I love. Unfortunately, LL Bean has recently decided that women definitely want all of their shirts to be at least slightly fitted. I have a small waist and pretty wide hips so I get why so many women's garments are made like this but what if I want a normal, straight up and down fit? I can't wear men's because I am 5'3".
I get that LL Bean is focusing more on trends as of late, but I don't get why that means they need to change the classics. What about "it ain't broke don't fix it"?
(Also, based on what I've observed in the store, the women's flannel material feels somewhat inferior to the men's, at least when it comes to the scotch plaid shirt. The organic flannel feels more on par with the men's but of course that is a significantly higher price point).

I ordered this in "Relaxed Fit." After this item was delivered and after trying it on, I then saw that it's also offered in "Slightly Fitted." I hope that one fits better than the Relaxed Fit. The Relaxed Fit was very baggy, very long, and too sloppy looking on me. There is no waist shaping at all - it fit just like a men's shirt. This shirt needed waist shaping in the side seams, as well as darts in front & back. I wonder if the Slightly Fitted would be any better - the photos of the two look the same. This did fit way too big on waist, but fine on bust & hips. I had to return this, as it looked like a bag/flour sack on me. So disappointed.

I now have two identical shirts. I used the measurements on your site and it said I needed a 1X. I had a flannel I bought a few years ago XL but I went with the measurements on the site..........is.huge on me. I didn't return it, will wear it over other shirts and then ordered the XL and it fits perfectly. I love the grey in the shirt. Please work on those measurements!!

I purchased 2 more of these flannel shirts to add to the 4 shirts I had purchased about 4 years ago. I was extremely disappointed to find that the buttoned down collar has disappeared from the styling. Fabric and fit are still nice, but honestly I would prefer to pay more money for a detail like the buttoned down collar which makes this nice shirt look a lot smarter.

I'm a very long time Bean customer and have never had an article of clothing fail, in any way, in over 20 years. I purchased this shirt for my wife as a Christmas gift and sadly, after the first wear/wash, buttons have fallen off. 2 to be exact. The stitching wasn't the fail point but. Rather the buttons themselves. They simply cracked and fell apart in the wash. I followed the wash instructions to the letter. There are no extra buttons sewn onto the bottom plaquard either.
As I said, I've never had even a thread out of place on any Bean product so hopefully this isn't telling of any changes that have occurred.
My wife says the shirt is extremely comfortable and warm.

It's an OK shirt. Not that thrilled, and I may return. I remember better quality in the past

I think the relaxed fit is a bit too relaxed. I normally wear a small in L.L. Bean clothes, but I ordered an extra small and I still feel like it is a little too big. It will work under a sweater or with a belt, but there is not much shape to it. It is soft and thick. But mine came with a fabric flaw and I will be exchanging it. I also think the button placement could be better. A little too much open at the neck with the top 2 buttons undone.

I was pleased to buy the Black Watch plaid shirt in size XL, which is the size of all my other LLB clothing, including other flannel shirts. This particular shirt shrank so much after one wash that I returned it.

Having purchased at least 10 of these flannel shirts over the past 20 years, I've noticed the quality, workmanship, fit and longevity has changed. The first flannel shirt I bought is at least 18 years old if not older. It is by far the best quality and still looks new. The fabric is soft, heavy, sturdy and has not pilled at all. The biggest difference with the older shirt compared with the newer version is the fact the plaid matches at the side seams! That to me is standard of a quality shirt. None of the other newer shirts match. I can't understand why that's acceptable for the price of these shirts. The other factor is the quality of the flannel. The newer ones (in the last 5 years) have all started to pill and some have faded in color. Another big difference is the placement & spacing of the front buttons. There is one less button and they are spaced at least 1.5 to 2 inches further apart than the older shirt. This makes the front gap when buttoned. Not sure what that could possibly be saving (other than one button) for them to make that adjustment but it does affect the quality and fit. The sizing is pretty much the same except for a short period of time when they did away with the relaxed fit shirt. I still like these shirts to wear around the house but now I will only buy them if they are on sale and I have coupons or Bean Bucks to reduce the price. I wish someone in quality control would read these reviews and go back to original quality of these shirts. And for heavens sake PLEASE MATCH THE PLAID!

Neck is too large. If buttoned, too tight. Sleeves too long & cuffs need to be folded up. Fabric is great. Should have ordered size PL.

The shirt itself is well made. However I ordered a plaid version and the pattern did not match at the seams. Because the scale of the pattern is very large this problem is too obvious. I returned the shirt.

However, the plaid does not match up on the side seams so would not wear anywhere other than around the house. Not what I would expect from LLBean.

This shirt is an attractive plaid, but is not nearly as well-made as Bean shirts I have from years ago. 1.The plaid is not centered on the back yoke.
2.The fabric is quite flimsy.
3.There are only six buttons on the shirt front instead of seven that older shirts have, so the shirt is more apt to gap in those larger spaces between the buttons.

This is the third flannel shirt I have ordered from LLBean. The plaid was beautifully matched on the first two shirts. I was disappointed that this most recent purchase, the plaid was not matched. I bought the shirt on sale and will most likely wear it around the house rather than in public. I have bought LLBean plaid shirts, skirts, and slacks and they were meticulously matched. I was disappointed that that was not the case w/ this shirt. I hope this was an exception.

I have been ordering these shirts in Petite Large forever. The latest iteration of the Petite Large is gi-normous! Long in the sleeves, long at the hem, & billowy. Bad. I returned some to try the more fitted version & the Petite Medium. They also fit less well & seem more cheaply made than prior years. Too bad.

Love the Mens version as the flannel material is very soft and cushy. However, the Women's version is thin and not as soft. Would purchase more if the women's style was made of the same material

Nice shirt for the most part but,I'm not really happy about the way the sleeves of this shirt fit. I purchased a 2x and I'm sure I'm not the only 2x woman with large upper arms. One would think that large of a shirt would NOT have skimpy sleeves. This is the style of shirt that might be worn over a tee shirt but I can't because the sleeves are too tight. I purchased a fleece jacket from you and the sleeves in it were even worse. Please think about making the sleeves fuller in the larger sizes.

I usually buy from LL Bean because of their outstanding quality- I have bought flannels from LL Bean in the past and this current one I bought recently in the color Black Watch did not live up to my expectations. My older flannels from LLBean felt much thicker and were of much higher quality than the one I recently purchased. They do not pill as easily as the new one and it hasn't even been a month since the time of my purchase. I am still keeping the flannel because I am in love with the Black Watch color, but overall disappointed with LL Bean's now mediocre quality of clothing.
