Soft, warm, but not overly so, great color that didn't fade with washing. 5'5", 170#, 38B chest, size medium is perfect, not at all baggy or tight.

Love the new blue plaid the colquhoun, but is a bit darker than pictured. Glad the button down collar is gone. Wish some of the older pastels would come back! I'd buy several!

I've been wanting a flannel shirt from L.L. Bean ever since my husband got his here. His have proven to be long-lasting and very well made and this ladies' shirt seems no different. It is of substantial weight, not thin and flimsy like other flannel shirts out there. I usually use Petite Large in other brands, but I did size down and I am glad I did. My shoulders and arms are usually trouble areas in shirts, but the Petite Medium was comfortably roomy in both and there was a comfortable amount of fabric around my torso without being either baggy or slim-fitting. The fit was just right. As for pilling, we've had many flannel products from L.L. Bean and we've never had an issue. The Colquhoun fabric is beautiful and earned high praise from my husband the first time I wore it. I'm very pleased with the purchase.

I am extremely pleased with my purchase for many reasons. I love the colors of the LL Bean Scottish (Scotch is a drink) plaid flannels which are traditional and very difficult to find for women. I love the fabric- just right in weight and still soft. I'm a fan of the relaxed fit and the sleeves being long enough for my arms. And finally, thanks LL Bean for taking the buttons off of the collar which makes a more feminine style while still keeping the rich colors.
Now please offer this shirt in Graham of Menteith!

First of all, I adore Bean's Scotch flannels. They've been my go to weekend comfort wear for years; retain their thickness, warmth, and softness throughout regular washing; and are well worth their price - even without a discount (and I do NOT say that often). I own three versions of this shirt, and I find each version has its place: the Petite XXS Relaxed, the Petite XS Relaxed, and the Petite XS Fitted. (Currently Petite XXS Fitted is not offered.)
Finding the right size for those of us who are uncommonly small is difficult (shout-out to my sisters on the opposite end of the spectrum who have the same trouble): I'm 5'0, slim-build, and occasionally have to work to get above 100 lbs. Although the size chart suggests a size XS for me in this shirt (34" bust), I find the XS to be quite large and prefer the XXS for certain situations.
The Petite XXS Relaxed is actually the most form-fitting and tailored of the three options. However, the sleeves run a tad short on me, the hem untucks if I'm active, and it's not big enough to layer over another shirt, unless I leave it untucked over a thin t-shirt. In fact, I usually wear it untucked and often layer it under a sweater or coat. The Relaxed version of the shirt is also the only one to have a buttoned collar, and Bean has reduced the white reinforcement patch over the years until it's hardly noticeable (it was an eyesore originally).
The Petite XS Fitted is quite a bit roomier. In fact, I think it's a bit of a misnomer to call it "Fitted," or even "Slightly Fitted," as there are still a few inches to lose. However, it's wonderful for layering over another shirt, especially a turtleneck or thicker knit, while offering some indication of a body underneath all of the fabric. It's a wee too restrictive through the shoulders to excel as a work shirt, so I tend to wear it casually or when doing light work. Additionally, sometimes you just want to surround yourself in billowy softness, and this shirt plus sweatpants equals a guaranteed lazy weekend morning.
The sweetspot for the Petite XS Relaxed is as a work shirt. It's great for shoveling, raking, climbing ladders, doing handstands, pushing a wheelbarrow uphill both ways, or whatever else you do for work or pleasure. There is plenty of room in the shoulders to swing high and low, and you can easily layer over a thick undershirt (or two). However, it's rather boxy, so it's best layered under something more form-fitting when out and about (especially something that can swallow the extra fabric without bulging).
Each shirt has its place, and the choice of which version to buy really depends on your lifestyle and how you plan to wear the shirt. If you're looking for fashion, I would size down from the size chart, and if you're large enough, go with the fitted version. Unfortunately for me, there is no Petite XXS Fitted offered at this time. If you know that you like layering button downs over turtlenecks, then follow the size guide for the Fitted version. If you're more active, I'd stick with the size chart, and choose Fitted or Relaxed based on a realistic expectation of how active you will be. Do you own a horse farm? Choose relaxed. Do you walk your dogs? Fitted will be fine.

I bought this shirt a couple weeks ago. I am very impressed with this flannel shirt. I am a big chested women and I have some pudge in my mid section and this flannel fits very well. I chose Women 3X to make sure it fits around the girls and it does with some room (which is unheard of for me!!) I love this shirt and I will be buying again. Just for reference I live in Alaska where we have some cold days during fall and of course winter time. I would recommend this shirt to anyone regardless of your size. This shirt is true to size and I enjoy it very well. I will never go to old navy again for flannel shirts

I hesitated buying the relaxed fit thinking it might be too big on my frame but it is actually perfect. I am 5'1" and 107 lbs - the Petite XS fits well without being tight or restricting in any way. I can comfortably wear a tee underneath, the sleeves are the exact right length and it looks casually comfortable (not at all oversized.)The Black Watch version has a button down collar which looks neat and it's on sale!

This is the most incredible flannel shirt I've ever owned. I've coveted it for several years but always thought "there's absolutely no way I'm spending $50 on flannel!" How wrong I was! Managed to snag 4 of them during a sale and it's my favorite fall purchase. It's the platonic ideal of flannel. I'll never go back.

Love these flannels. So soft and nice and loose to give some movement. Wear them all year, alone, layered, to bed anywhere

I own two Scotch Plaid shirts, always makes me happy when the weather turns cool and I can pull these to the front of my closet. The shirt washes well, no noticeable shrinking, one of my shirts is 3 years old, there is no pilling of the fabric. I am 5"4" 145, I don't like fitted clothing, I chose size L so that long sleeve tees could be comfortably layered underneath. I don't tuck in shirts so the extra length/width isn't an issue, but the length does work well with slim leg jeans. There may be another flannel shirt arriving in my closet this fall!

I am 5'8", 130 lbs and the size small for me perfectly! I have broad shoulders and was happily surprised at how well the shirt fit! I originally ordered it in the color Prince Charles Edward and ended up ordering the black watch, Royal Stewart Victoria, Navy Tartan, and Black Stewart as well. The material is incredibly soft and washes very well. If you are debating on getting a size bigger than normal, I wouldn't. Stick with your normal size!

Great shirt. Loved it when it came in, but had already ordered a size down after reading the reviews and had to re-order when it got here and get ANOTHER size down.
I had originally ordered a size small in petite and am 5'4 125 lbs, small frame and normally order a size medium in shirts (sometimes small if I can get away with it). However, the small came in the mail and it was WAY too baggy. So I ended up ordering 2 sizes down to an XS which should be perfect.
Quality seemed fantastic. Great shirt.

I purchased 2 of these beautiful shirts, Navy Tartan & Buchanan, Misses Regular X-Small, went with several reviewers sized down one size. I hope to add several more to my wardrobe, they are so well-made & so versatile, they go with every thing! I love to use them as an over-shirt with my t-shirts. Height 5'5" weight 105, wear a 2-4 most times, but I love to have shirts that are nice & full for comfort, & this shirt is exactly that. The plaids are so lovely I do not know which I love more, both! One very happy customer of LLB, every purchase perfect! Thank you so much, have a wonderful day, :-)!!!

I have bought LLBean flannel shirts for many years, and always been pleased. They wash well, don't need ironing, and last what seems like forever! These shirts seem to be a little thicker, and definitely softer material. I prefer the 'relaxed' styles since the darts in the more fitted just hit me in the wrong place. They would be absolutely perfect except for the extra 1" in sleeve length that I could do without, but then, that is a minor complaint.

I bought three of these flannel shirts in different colors, size petite large because shirts on me normally have too long of a sleeve if I order miss regular. These fit just right. The cotton flannel fabric used is not too thin and not too heavy to wear all day during cool weather. They launder nicely too. Love them. Thanks.

This is such a great plaid. Goes with navy/faded/black jeans. So soft and fits loosely for wearing it as a light jacket over a long sleeved t-shirt.

I have searched far and wide for a flannel shirt that wasn't stretchy and finally, I have found it. I was amazed at the beauty and fit as I am a short petite and very few shirts fit well, especially the sleeves. This one was so soft right out of the package and I was like a child at Christmas. After the first washing, it is still soft and doesn't wrinkle. I will be adding more to my wardrobe. So excited to have found this one after looking for about 10 years.

Excellent quality flannel -- thick and soft. Fits just a little loose/relaxed, but not sloppy looking. I buy my usual size Large and it fits well. Sleeves are also a good length (5'7").

Soft, warm, love the relaxed fit. Do wish the hem was straight across with side slits - but guess I am in the minority. Have bought this in several colors.

I ordered two flannel shirts this winter. Both have washed well, are warm and the size was good. I have had no problem with pilling as written in other reviews. I hope LLBean introduces additional tartan choices next year.
