I would compare these shoes to the escalantes. The are slimmer making them more responsive and reducing that play I had on the wider stand on the escalantes. And yes they are more narrow since they are the slim Altras, but still wider than other brands of shoes. Very comfortable for long runs and responsive enough for those tempo runs. When compared to the Rivera 1 these feels lighter and more breathable

The Rivera 2 is my go-to trainer for anything from a 5k to 10 milers and beyond. It provides a snappy ride that creates a comfortable balance of feeling connected to the ground yet staying cushioned. A someone who also put ~220 miles on the original RIvera, this is a largely similar update with some nice refinements to the upper, which now feels slightly more breathable and premium. I rotate this with my Torins and Paradigms for speedier days on the road, or when I want a more locked-in feel with the Slim Footshape fit!

Ordered an 11.5 first (previous Altra tennis shoes were 11.5) but they left no space at toe, 12 was perfect. These are great looking as well as super comfortable!

I had the original Rivera. I'm a woman, but most women's shoes are too narrow. It was great! The new shoe is more narrow, although it isn't too narrow for me, but when they made it more narrow, they changed the shape of the toe box. Since my second toe is my long toe, that means that on my slightly bigger foot, the long toe is just bumping the end of the shoe. Been there and done that. The nails eventually turn black and fall off. So I'm trying a half size up, but I'm not very optimistic. When you go up in size, the location of the arch changes. The recommendations from the company if one doesn't like the change of width are for models that are more heavily cushioned (in some cases) or have truly hideous fabric and color ways (in others). Got Joanie Mitchell's song "Big Yellow Taxi" playing in my head. I may have to investigate shoes by another company. Which is so sad.

I wish they left the toe box the same as the Rivera 1. My feet are just wide enough that my toe is pressing against the side of the mesh material. Which is a bummer. I really like how lite these shoes are and the mesh material seems like it will offer some great ventilation. If you felt the Rivera 1 was just on the edge of being too narrow. These shoes might not be for you. I have some pictures with side by side comparisons of the Rivera 1 (orange), River 2 (blue), and Torin 5 (dark blue)

I was recommended this shoe by sales agent as they stated it was the narrowest shoe they manufactured. Unfortunately the base was just far too wide for comfort and would erode performance, never mind place one at greater risk of injury. It's frustrating that they are trying to accommodate a slightly narrow foot but not going all the way and creating say 3 base widths of shoes (narrow, medium, wide) to help support all types of feet. Most people would be willing to pay for the improved performance of an extra wide or an extra narrow if it game them the performance boost. This does not mean providing or taking away the top material to attempt the This is done in other sports including hockey, skiing but strangely not running. Obviously huge opportunity in the market here for a shoe company to capitalise here. Look forward to the first company to take those steps

I wear 11 women's and usually 9.5 men's in Rivera. I had to go up half a size in the men's Rivera 2. I won't even bother trying the women's sizing as the men's 10 fits perfect. Go up a half size when you're transferring from women's sizes and the original Rivera.

Have purchased 5 pairs in past year, these are my go to shoe for all road running at 40 plus miles per week. Most comfortable Altra I have owned. I purchased 2 extra pair of shoes in case Altra makes drastic changes to this shoe/model, as they seem to do to most of their shoes (Torin is a good example of how Altra changes their shoes and not for the better).

Fits great for narrow feet. Extra room in the toe-box, but not too much. Has just the right amount of cushioning. I think I found my new go to.

Best fitting shoe I have ever had. After a month I bought a back up pair because I am wearing them all the time. Altra is the only shoe that I am aware of that makes shoes to fit your feet. Few minor issues: part of sole coming off, grey trim color coming off, and the shoe strings won't stay tight.

Just ran/hiked 40 miles on a very rough Arizona trail. No blisters or problems at all. Love these shoes.

I like the wide toebox. My feet have changed over the years and traditional shoes are tight around toes and front joints. Go up at least one size. I’m an 11.5 and had to get a 13. Very comfortable and supportive.

1 year ago, started with Torin 6 and loved it. This past summer added two trail shoes (Lone Peak 6 & Timp) I 'm going all in on Altra , and so far no regrets. I've only been out with Rivera 2's a couple of times, but so far they perform as expected. Thank you Altra for zero drop and all around great shoes.

I decided to go somewhat minimalist for my first full marathon;vand was guided to the rivieras. Ever since I started running I always dealt with sore knees by the end of my run. I bought these altras about 3 months ago no issues. I did have to go up to an 11 from my standard size 10. Completely happy with them.

Love them. Remind me of original Wave Sayonara from another brand. That was my all time favorite shoe. These are the perfect amount of cushion. Amazing ride. Amazing fit, 1/2 size up for sure. I was an Escalante fan and still run in the racer, but the 3's lost it for me, so I tried the Rivera 2 and have found a winner. Hopefully they keep this overall fit and feel.

I have thin low profile feet so the slim Footshape works really well for me. Cushioning is great and quite durable. I use this shoe daily and for light-moderate walks on sidewalks. Wore them for a weekend in NYC and perfect!

First time in a zero-drop. This shoe took care of a numbness in my toes I experienced from both Brooks Glycerin and Asics Glideride. I got mine from Fleet Feetin in Austin TX. I would recommend in-store try out bec the width in the toe area allows for more foot swelling where traditional support running shoes do not thus you tend to buy a half size larger.

These either run really small or they are women’s sizes but listed as men’s. I finally ordered my true women’s size and am keeping my fingers crossed they are the right fit.

I know these shoes will be comfy and just the right fit, but they are listed in men’s sizes so I keep trying to get the right fit for my female feet. Keep that in mind when ordering.
