When I first got them they were amazing. The boots hugged my feet perfectly and the ankle support felt like it gave my feet wings. After about 6 months of wear and tear the soles got extremely soft to the point you could feel rocks through the padding. Right around the same time the boots stopped being waterproof and some stitching came out. They are amazing boots but I wasn't very pleased with the longevity of them.

They look good and feets comfortable, but I was really disappointed when I realize that these boots don't have Gore-Tex waterproof barrier like it was in the description.

I bought size 9, which is the same size as the Salomon XA Pro 3Ds that I practically live in. These X Ultra Pioneer Mids, in the same size were very tight, even without socks. I recommend going up by a half size. I upgrade the insoles on all my shoes, so I left my comments about support and comfort neutral. If they are anything like the XA Pro 3D with Sole insoles, I’ll never take them off.

If Salomon is going to bring back the superior x ultra3 series can you bring back the wide too? That way I can get another pair and keep avoiding the xultra4.

Right out of the box they are covered in glue that I can't get off. The fabric is scratched. The rubber is stained. Quality control must've been sick that day. Horrible

I used to absolutely love these boots, this is my third pair.
However, I thought this pair was a knockoff, not the quality of older boots. They also run small and the materials have changed. They look and feel cheap.
This will be my last pair of Salmon's unless the quality is improved. Unfortunate, these used to be the best boots on the market.

These are much more narrow in the toe box than previous ones. They also have a thick seam that runs strait down the middle of the toe box and rubs and blisters my toes. Horrible design.

Bought these in summer 2022 and noticed the collar on the boot flared out at the top, which struck me as odd. I took them out on a regular basis, and every time I would come back with debris all down the inside of my socks and the bottom of the boot.
The flaring collar acts as a basket and funnel - some of the debris you kick up will end up inside the boots. This includes leafs, rocks and (as I learned hiking in Scotland), anything that sheep may have "dropped". Not only does this destory socks, it means you have to take these off occasionally in terrain that features a lot of pebbles.
I tried tying these tighter and sealing them in a variety of ways, but nothing worked.
On the upside, the waterproofing held up for me, and they were comfortable from the first wear. I loved the feel of them as I hiked.
The open collar is a deal-breaker, though. Salomon - please fix the collar design.

I've had my shoes for about a year now and when I stepped in a puddle of water today they filled with water. Not sure if that's normal for a year old pair.
Other than that they have been OK

I have enjoyed many great adventures with my non-waterproof X ULTRA MID boots, wanted to replace, but Salomon does not make any more :-( For me breathability and dry-ability are essential. When needed, wet and/or wet cold conditions present themselves, I slip on a pair of 'Randy Sun' breathable-waterproof socks. Please, Salomon, give me back my non-waterproof X ULTRA MID boots!
