Easy to lace up and secure. Toe box more snug than I was used to, but not too tight. Excellent boot so far! Got it for hiking and hunting.

I bought these to use for tactical shooting classes and hiking. The first weekend after purchase they were put to the test in a two day tactical carbine class. It rained nonstop tropical storm level downpours. Our instructor was from the Pacific Northwest so we moved forward with the class. Shoes were comfortable for two 10 hour days and my feet stayed completely dry. Will be buying more in the future.

I love these Salomon hiking boots. They are sturdy, breathable, comfortable and very well made. The grip on the bottom is quite impressive. The boots really grip to rocks when I'm hiking and are great for preventing slipping. Invest in a good pair of boots like these and you won't be disappointed!

I recently bought my third pair of these shoes. Previously I bought them primarily as a lighter-weight alternative to heavier or less durable backpacking boot. I wore them on week long trips into the Eagle Cap Wilderness Area in eastern Oregon, always the first week of June with a group of high school students. The elevation was high enough that we frequently dealt with snow and always with wet and muddy trails. We crossed several snow-melt flooded creeks on downed trees, which are wet and mossy, or on rocks in the stream. I felt like I had generally had good traction. I never deliberately waded into the water with these shoes, but sometimes I might have had a missed step one foot immersion. I don't recall that this presented an unusual wet foot problem. Now I wear them to my job at an electrical supply distributor and on local day trips into the desert around Carlsbad NM. People say I should wear high leather boots because of rattlesnakes, but I personally haven't seen any yet. These shoes are light, comfortable, durable. I appreciate the more muted visual tones of this particular style since I don't just wear them in the woods.

I know that trail running shoes are all the rage these days but these boots are pretty light weight for what they are. The ly offer great ankle support for carrying heavy loads over rough terrain and are about as comfortable as a train runner once they break in.

The X ultra pioneer ClimaSalomon is without a doubt the most comfortable supportive boot I've ever owned. My pedometer count is about 25,000 steps a day at work I can't thank you enough for the design of these boots. customer for life.

I bought these boots a number of years ago (6+ years) and have had a wonderful experience. I hike at over 800 miles last year and these boots still have more life left in them. I've worn them through rivers in Montana (kept my feet perfectly dry), on glaciers in Iceland, on slick rocks in Moab, up many peaks including Mt. Whitney, Grand Canyon rim to rim, etc etc. I will buy another pair if they ever wear out.

I purchased this product because of my previous experience with Salomon hiking shoes. Lightweight, rugged, constructed well. My hiking, usually solo, consists of all types of terrain, elevation and distance. The last thing I need is footwear that doesn't meet the challenge. Salomon does not disappoint.

I've tried too many hiking boots to count over the past month, and pretty much all the mid Salomon boots, and the Pioneer's came out on top. I've got about 30 miles in them already and they are so dang comfortable. For the first 5 or so miles the front/toe area was really cramped from the cushioning, but after they broke in, there is now wiggle room and feels great. They're a bit thicker on the sole, but not so much that you don't feel anything - Enough to help grip and feel the terrain. They grip great on climbs and rocks. I'm definitely happy with the purchase. Long hikes my feet feel great, and that's what it's all about.

These are replacements for an old pair of Salomon Mid hikers. They are perfect. The last pair has lasted through regular wear, hiking mountains and some light construction. I hope these wear as well. I used the Zappos size finder and these fit perfectly. They look great, too!

I have had 3 pairs of the pioneer, the waterproofing and overall integrity of them last forever. They are very comfortable for hiking or everyday use. I even jog in them occasionally whenever I cannot find my running shoes. I am typically an 11.5, but the sizing seems to run a bit small, the 12' fits me better. I wish they still had the option without the pink highlights.

I bought these boots to hike the Arizona Trail. Many passages were extremely rocky and the boots stood up to the rough terrain without any issues. When other hikers were replacing their shoes, I was able to do the entire 800 miles with one pair of boots.

This is a great low boot to take early morning hikes in the dew. Keeps out the low weeds and of course waterproofing keeps the feet and lower ankles dry.

They look nice and feet comfortable, but I was really disappointed when I realize that this boots don't have GORE-TEX waterproof barrier like it was in the description.

The shoes felt pretty tight when I first got them, it took a couple of days before they were broken in. After that, they feel very good. I like that they are snug, and my feet don't wallow around in them. Also, I like that they have some toe protection and a good heel cup with protection. I use them primarily for walking our dogs and hiking. So far the soles are very grippy and do well on uneven surfaces and rocks. On my first hike with them, I stepped in water that was about ankle deep and they were actually waterproof. If the water was any deeper, it would have gone over the tongue of the shoe and I'm sure they would have leaked. So far I'm happy with them, but the true test of any footwear for me is how much abuse they can take and how long they last. Time will tell.

The shoes were very warm, and in my opinion did not breath as well as the goretex model. With that being said, they will be great in the cooler weather in late fall, early winter! The shoes felt tighter, so 1/2 size bump up is recommended!

great style. i have other Salomon shoes. these always feel tight at first. once you break them in they are perfect. one of my favorite features on Salomon shoes are the soles. nothing ever stays stuck or pasted to the bottom of these.

Still early so only thing I can comment on: Bought these bc they looked to be very similar to my other Salomons, but immediately noticed the very cheap insoles compared to the Salomons I bought two years ago. You will need quality replacement insoles immediately, so factor that into your price calculus.

I have never had in issue with footbed width on Salomon but these are so tight on one foot they are bruising the top of my toe. Otherwise they are a nice lightweight, well made boot.
