Coat is great, but the zipper is really difficult to get started

I would have given 5 stars if not for the hood. I think the hood is designed to fit over a ski helmet or for a person with a head the size of a hippopotamus. It is way too big to be functional if you are simply wearing a normal hat.

The jacket is perfect for walking in any cold temperature or windy condition. You can layer up or not, depending on if you need to. The jacket fits well. The zipper is not user friendly.

If I hadn't owned an earlier version with more zippered pockets, a more durable exterior and less fussy zipper, I'd have given this another star. I think the earlier versions looked nicer also. A good but not exceptional coat that was kept at a price point at the cost of features.

I received this jacket as a birthday gift. It replaced my Rugged Ridge jacket I bought years ago. I love this jacket. With a medium first layer and a wool sweater, it keeps me warm down to a wind chill of-20F. I have recommended this jacket to friends who actually bought their own

This jacket should be a "5" because it is excellent in every advertised feature but sizing, and that's a problem. I love the jacket and highly recommend it, but buy one size larger than usual, especially if you like to have room for a sweater. The design, materials, and functionality are great, as I would expect from LL Bean.
[For LL Bean only: Comment on Sizing]
I have been a loyal LLB customer for many years. I don't remember that size was ever problem but it has become one, not because I am "big" and "tall".
LLB clothing always seemed generously cut and consistently sized, a common characteristic of better clothing, while poorer brands tend to skimp on size as well as quality.
In the last 4 months I've bought 3 items sized 3XLT. Two are a pullover woven sweater/sweatshirt, identical except for color and purchase date. Although both were labeled 3XLT, one was swimmingly larger and the other a bit too small for an 3XLT. The third was this jacket, which despite the size label, was clearly sized for a 2XLT. I cannot wear it with any meaningful sweater or underlayer.
Unreliability of sizes is a problem even in walk-in stores but moreso in catalog stores since fit cannot be tested. While I appreciate that LLB offers free returns and exchanges I would not use the policy unless the item were absolutely unusable by family or friends. It's been said that a gift that needs work is not a gift but a burden. So it is also with even generous exchange policies. I bet that many customers will exchange, but some might pass due to frustration and the waste of their time. How many will be lost due to persistent size problems is anyone's guess. I don't want to be one of them.
I'm sure it's difficult to have consistent size standards when your suppliers may number in the hundreds, but please fix
this problem. Thank you.

I love this coat except for one feature--the lower zipper already is getting stuck a bit.

Looks and feels great, handles the cold perfectly. Only negative is the flimsy (small teeth) zipper.

I like that it has the rip cords at mid length, hip length. behind the hood and o. either side of the neck. Could be a warmr, more insulated... i lso bought the Mountain Parka, which is warmer but no drawstrings to block out cold wind, only neck drawstrings. the hood keeps falling down over my eyes. which can be dangerous Just looking for a long mid knee reakt warm parka, water & windproof with more drawstrings to block out cold & wind . Which parka do you recommend? Thank you

So far, so good. I ordered Large rather than Medium (that is more my size), since the other clothes worn underneath (always a long-sleeved turtleneck and occasionally a sweater, which can be bulky) are "winter" stuff. This worked out just FINE, as there are "cinches" in the coat's innards--that I did not read about--and that cinch seems to "close off" the upper body well, so should conserve body heat in the depths of January & February...keeping me & it warm (I hope). It should work well with just any turtleneck and/or sweater underneath!
...More, once ski season arrives....

I purchased this parka to replace a 20 year old jacket
The LL Bean coat has a nice feature and hopefully will keep me warm in the New England winters. Unlike other reviewers, I found the sizing to be correct and the cut not too baggy. That said, the parka is heavier in weight than I would prefer and the zippers could be of better quality.

This was a replacement for my older parka, the same style, which I loved. I had that one about 5 years. This parka is basically the same, just as warm and water resistant and overall a great parka. The only problem I have is the zipper. In my opinion it should be heavier, maybe even metal. The only reason my older coat needed to be replaced, was that the zipper started opening in the middle if I would bend a certain way, and the cloth the zipper is mounted on finally ripped at the base. This is a great jacket overall, but I feel the zipper is too lightweight.

Very warm, water repellency is a plus. Good fit and length. Bought as a late season replacement for a version from 25 years ago. The zipper on the new coat isn't as sturdy, and small Velcro patches have replaced the snaps on the zipper flap of the old coat. Hopefully small compromises in today's lesser quality environment. LL Bean - hold the line on quality. I'll pay for it.

I love this Coat! I gave it a four star rating instead of the five star for just one reason. That is because the hood does not fold under the collar with velcro like my older mountain red rugged Ridge Parka, which I still have. The zipper on the new coat is much better. I have trouble with the zipper on my older coat. I love the added pockets on the inside, including, one big enough for me to put my toboggan in.

This is a very warm coat and looks as advertised. It runs quite large. I bought and medium and replaced it for a small and it's still large. I usually wear a 38-40.

My 'old' L.L. Bean Rugged Ridge Parka is the warmest coat I have ever owned. Bought this model to have one for everyday and one for select outings. This new model is sized correctly, drapes properly, and looks good. It is not, however, as warm as the prior model. Less warmth keeps me from rating this coat as a 5 star product.

Excellent coat, good for mid 20s and higher. No issues in the rain. A little concerned about how long the zipper wii last, but I would buy again.

This is my second parka of this style. Lots of good features. Only downside is the zipper. It needs to be more heavy-duty. Both parkas suffer from this weakness.

So far this garment is adequate for temperatures around 32 when relatively stationary as part of a layer system.
Of course it's heavier than the down jackets I'm used to but it is what it is.
My only complaint is the zippers.
And the hood does not appear to be removable even though there is a zipper at it's base
