My husband loves this parka. It's warm, looks good and keeps out the wind. It's not too puffy and has all the features he likes, especially the goggle wiper in the inside pocket. This is the second LL Bean parka we have purchased for him; he had the first one for ten years.

Love this coat - fit is good and the warmth to weight ration is excellent. We've had our first blast of lake effect snow and wind - but I am not feeling them at all. I'll have to see how things go when temps drop toward zero but for now, at around 25 degrees, I feel no Old Man Winter when I'm wearing the coat. Recommended!

Bought Dec 2016. I read some reviews that stated this parka runs large. I agree. I'm 6'1" 165 lbs slender runners build. I wear a 40 long in a sport coat. I have a 34 sleeve. In the LLBean fleece lined Warm-Up jacket I'm a Medium Long. Medium Regular in this parka is not too bulky but is roomy for me and plenty long enough. OK over just a shirt when walking the dog in 20s temps but plenty of room for a heavy sweater or fleece for skiing. Sleeve length just right. Back of coat comes right down to bottom of my butt. I like that the collar has a flap that hides the zipper when the hood is removed. Also I like that it has two draw cords inside, one around the bottom and one around the waist. Zipper flap has 5 velcro closers and snap buttons at top and bottom, so should there ever be an issue with the zipper (I hope not) the coat can still be held closed. Inside breast pocket has insulation towards the outside so will keep phone warm while skiing. I've been using a shell jacket over several layers for skiing for many years. For downhill skiing, this parka will require fewer layers and the outer material is more rugged than my shell jackets. It would probably be way too much insulation for tele skiing. I would still go with lighter weight shells and layers for those backwoods climbs. But I was able to roll it tight to 7"x 12", so it is packable if you choose to for a winter hike. Definitely recommended.

We live on Lake Superior, and it gets really cold. I got this coat for my husband and he loves it. It really breaks the wind and is warm without being bulky. And he is always cold, so if he says it's warm it is!

I purchased the Rugged Ridge parka a few weeks ago for my son, who works outside all day. He needed a warm, waterproof coat that was decent looking and wasn't going to be bulky. It has worked out perfectly and he's really happy with it. (So am I!) I bought it in the grey/black color, size XL regular so he can wear layers underneath. He's about 6' and 190lbs. or so. Would recommend this coat and would buy again.

With winter hitting Wisconsin right now, this coat is perfect. I was surprised with the light weight since I am replacing an almost 20 year old LL Bean green coat which is very similar and still looks like brand new except for a bad zipper. I hope this grey coat lasts as long. With today's wind chills down to the single digits, I am also impressed with how it blocks wind compared with my previous coat. Great coat for a great price.

I was a little afraid to purchase this jacket fearing it wouldn't have all of the same internal and external pockets that my much older LL Bean Parka had. Of course, there is nothing wrong with my older parka except that my girlfriend doesn't particularly like its bright orange color. So I bought this jacket in grey and its great. Also, her grandfather has the same jacket so she really can't complain. Thus far it has kept me warm in the brutal Chicago winter.

I work long hours outside in the cold under all conditions and this coat keeps me warm and dry. Not bulky providing ease of mobility. I like to combine with the Stowaway Vest when it is very cold. After working 14 hours a day outside during he winter I'm glad I am wearing this parka.

This jacket in a Large, Tall, fits my 6'2" son very well. I love the length in the sleeves - it can be so hard to find a good coat with sleeves long enough to cover his wrists. It's great-looking, and not bulky.

Have the older version (15+ yrs) which was top notch then. The newer version is cut slimmer in chest and upper arms - good for me! (SM for 5'6", 140 lbs) The new Primaloft silver is WONDERFUL! Thanks again LL.

I bought one of these last year and wanted a different color this year. Now I have 2. Happy to see that the construction has not changed. It's lightweight and I can wear it open in warmer temps in the 40s and bundled up to very cold temps. I especially love the lined pockets and neck so that you don't put your hands into cold pockets or have a cold feeling around your neck. I recommend it. It fits true to size.

I was afraid the jacket would be "too big" but the L was perfect for my 44" chest. Just enough room for a couple of layers (base layer and fleece sweater). My arms and wrists usually get damp which is very annoying but not this time. That's a big plus for me. The collar was damp from my breath and I could feel the moisture on the shell but I stayed dry. The jacket weighed more than I had expected which is a good thing. Not a hood person but it was OK after adjusting and wearing a beanie. Two collar snaps are better than one but I can live with it. I wanted something waterproof that would be warm while wearing a t-shirt at higher temps. I think I found it.

Not being sure of what size to order; my husband and I went to an LL Store in Illinois. He tried on a few different winter jackets. The rugged ridge parka had a great rating. The size small fit him perfectly. He's about 5'6" 134lbs. Even with an LL fleece jacket underneath, he felt comfortable and could move easily in the parka. Since we live in another state without an LL store, we ordered the parka online and had it shipped to our house. We hike a lot. He hiked wearing the jacket with fleece underneath and another day in the 40's, windy, with a light summer shirt underneath. He felt very warm and comfortable both ways. Pluses; 2 way zipper, zip off AND INSULATED HOOD, lots of pockets outside and in. Minuses: none we could think of. He got the black/gray. It looks very dressy without the hood. At 189.00, quite worth it. I wanted one too; but the women's did not come in the same colors. It came in pastels which I do not prefer.I would have wanted the rust/orange that the men's came
in. I didn't want to get the same black/grey. I'll probably look at other options.

Just arrived in the last hour. Can't be more pleased with the overall inspection of the parka's design. Havn't tested it yet behind the snow blower, but I believe it should be excellant if the ratings on warmth hold up. Covers the rear nicely. Extremely light weight. Nor is it bulky which is needed for an active outdoor guy. Can't wait to try it when we go to our mountain home in northern California next week. I'll let you know if to the contrary. Also, hood is removable and sufficient pockets inside and out for most people.

Purchased this for my husband as his primary winter coat. The fit was perfect. Sleeves were long enough. I purchased an XL. Husband is 6"1" and 225lbs. He had previously tried on a tall and that was much too large. The weather has not turned very cold but I am sure that this jacket will keep him toasty warm.

This parka is as described in the catalog. It runs big and is roomy. My husband chose it and is satisfied which is a miracle.
The blue color is appealing, it has many pockets, seems warm and is light weight. He will see how it works in the snow.

Needed something with more warmth and move coverage and this was perfect. It's light, warm, covers my butt, and even the sleeve length works for me (I'm short and that's often an issue). I like the materials, but the jury's still out on the zipper.

I've have another version of this jacket that is about 20 years old and would still be wearing only that one except that it needs a new zipper now. This newer version has some things that I like, like the detachable hood and outdoor chest pocket, that the old one didn't. The old one had a second set of outside pockets above the lower ones that this one has, this jacket would be better with those. Also, maybe it will wear in after a while, I have only had it a couple of weeks, but the outside fabric is stiffer than the old one, and kind of crinkly. The newer version has a lower inside pouch on the right side, and an upper one on that side too, with what I assume is a micro-fiber cloth to use for clearing glasses and goggles, those are a nice touch. I don't love the inner cuffs that can move around inside the lower arms, that's a negative new feature to me. Warmth has been quite adequate in the last couple of weeks, ranging from the single digits to mid-30s, with occasional wind chills below 0. If it holds up well past the warranty (a year now?), it will be a decent value.

I've had the jacket for more than a year, and I'm very happy with the fit, warmth, and appearance. The one flaw is that the plastic waist adjustment clips inside the jacket rub against the mid-stomach area and damage wool and cotton sweaters. I couldn't figure out what was causing the fuzzy pilling on those garments in exactly the same area until recently. I'll try wrapping the clips in padded material to remedy the problem.

Love the jacket, but the zipper (the slider part) is too small for a coat this size, and difficult to operate.
