Overall, geat jacket! I'm 5'11", 170lbs, got a size M and it fits a little big it the chest and shoulders. This can be great for adding extra layers but if you don't it doesn't feel as snug as I would like. The good news is it does exactly what it's supposed to do, for a reasonable price, great quality and from a reputable brand. This shell will keep you warmer than you think and the vents under the arms are nice when you need to keep cool.

Excellent fit and finish. Great color. Can fit under 2 layers comfortably and still fits nicely with just 1 layer. Material nice to the touch. Would be nice to have even more venting on the sides.

Great jacket so far, love the pit zips. My only add on would be to add a "pocket collar" for the hood to roll into when not raining....if this was there this would be the perfect Jacket. Layer it with warmer base layers and you would be all set for a wide variety of conditions..

This replaced my old Marmot Precip jacket The sizing is consistent between the two. FWIW, I have a marmot puffy coat that I wear a Large in, but the medium Minimalist fits PERFECTLY over it. I do wish the jacket packed into the pocket like the Precip, however. 5'-11" 185lbs

nice materials, quality construction, poor hood design...I have had this jacket for a short time, therefore I cannot comment on the longevity or performance in various rain conditions. It has kept me dry so far...Initally, the jacket seems to be made of high qualtiy materials and the construction is excellent. Everything is crisp and straight, with no loose threads. The color (artic blue) is sharp. Where this jacket falls short is in its hoods design. First, there is not any ablility to roll the hood down into the collar or detatch it. This is problematic if you have activity or job where you need peripheral vision and wear a rain hat. (Tucking the hood inward, eventually allowed rain to leak into the jacket.) Second, to sinch the hood, you will need to reach behind your head and pull on a bungie cord sticking out the back of the hood. (Yeah, the cords just hangs out the back of the hood - not a natural movement nor nice look.) Had the hood been designed better, I would most likely have rated this jacket at 5 stars. However, wrangling with the hood everytime wear this jacket makes it quite cumbersome and disappointing.

I'm sure this is a great jacket, but even the size Small was too large for me. I'm a pretty small guy but I bought a Minimalist several years ago in a Small that fit great, so was disappointed that the jacket is being made larger. Please make an XS!! Might try the women's jacket, but bummed that it doesn't come in the jungle color. :(

I used this in the Presidentials on the AT. After 20 minutes it started wetting out. It's a great feeling, looking and comfortable coat (also very well made and durable)... but this is strictly a city coat. It will NOT keep you dry for much longer than 20 minutes in a down pour. Great for light rain.

The fit of the jacket is good, with enough room to put some extra layers underneath it. But at the most important part the jacket fails in mine opinion: that is the waterproof and breathability. In lighter rain for about 30-60 minutes it will keep you dry. But longer time or heavier rains, the jacket starts to let water through, especially at the shoulders and arms. Walked couple of hours in rain and was soaked. Breathability is poor as well. When start sweating, the inside of the jacket get wet quickly. Unless the zippers under your arms. I expect more from this jacket for its price. Especially because for it's Gore-Tex, which claims to be waterproof and breathable.

This legendary Marmot was supposed to be my durable, stormproof shell, but despite loving the fit and design, it failed miserably when subjected to water. Not rain, just a light sprinkling from a garden hose for less than ten seconds! While most of the face fabric repelled water as expected, key areas around the shoulders and hood absorbed it immediately. I want to give the Minimalist a chance (I researched it and the reviews are great), so is my brand new jacket an unfortunate fluke - like maybe the DWR was not applied evenly - or is this common for this jacket?

Not the same quality as the back country brand. Will be the last marmot product I buy. At best it's a warm weather rain jacket. You can still feel the wind

Don't waste your time this jacket will fail you and you will be disappointed. The 2nd time wearing this in light rain, the jacket became completely soaked in through the shoulder seam area. Even buying this at 50% off, I'm still upset. Compared to the previous model, the angled zipper design makes it difficult to access the side pockets. The drawcord on the hood is a pain to adjust. I couldn't get it to loosen without taking the entire jacket off. The single pull drawcord at the waist is also less user-friendly than the previous version and I don't believe will last long. The older model had dual tensioners which made for easier adjustability.

I really wanted to love this jacket - the Minimalist was going to be my durable, storm proof shell layer for outdoor activities. BUT, I was extremely disappointed and shocked when, on its first encounter with water - a light sprinkling with a garden hose for less than 10 seconds, the face fabric failed miserably. While most of the fabric repelled the droplets as expected, water seeped in immediately along the shoulders and hood. Is this normal for a brand new, DWR-coated, GoreTex fabric or is my jacket an unfortunate lemon? I spent quite some time researching this jacket and I felt I found the perfect value-optimized rain shell but I am not confident it will hold up in rainy weather.

Marmot Jacket Minimalist. Not worth the money! Low intensity walks during rain events, moderately above freezing, generates too much condensation on the interior lining. Expected more from a brand new product. And no, I don't overdress.
