These are a good value in winter socks. They are medium thickness, and the weave is looser than many others. They remind me of the sweaters Mom used to knit, but softer and not as itchy because of the merino wool.

Bought as a gift for a family member. He was completely thrilled with this as a gift. I would definitely recommend this socks for any man who likes to spend time outdoors in the winter!

Appears to be good quality and very thick, but they were too tight for me. I'm diabetic and have wide feet, so it's hard to find the right sock for me. I'd suggest ordering one size larger, just to be safe, but don't order these if you are diabetic.

The blue run small. I have these socks in all the offered colors and am very happy with them, have worn them for years. All in size Medium. The blue run small, I ordered them a few years ago and they were smaller than my other pairs so I gave them away. I just ordered blue again and they are smaller in every way than my other pairs. I plan on returning them for the large.

I bought these as an over layer for really cold days. They do the job, but the synthetic mix made my feet sweat without another sock underneath. Fine as indoor/slippers, wouldn't recommend on their own in a boot for walking.

These were my go to winter sock. Thick, cushy, perfect for keeping feet warm outside and inside.
This year as soon as I put them on I could tell they were much thinner than they used to be. Not sure if it's a different wool, lower thread count or thinner yarn, but the thinness compared to previous years is definitely noticeable. For the price, the value isn't there like it used to be.

I thought these would be more luxurious feeling but I doubt that my husband will care. When the discripion is for merino wool, you expect soft. These aren't.

I've been buying these for years but this pair had 1-2" loose yarns at the tops and were not finished properly. I had to re-sew the yarns back in to use them.

These socks are incredibly comfortable and I love pulling them on sadly pulling them on for less than a year has already worn out the heels and I only use them in the colder months. I've always associated L.L. Bean with great quality but I don't think I've ever worn another brand of socks out this quickly through regular use.

I have purchased these sock numerous times over the past 30 years. I even wear them in the summer. However, every pair wears out too quickly in the heel. The price is way to high to have them wear out in a year or less.

I really love the warmth -- my feet are often so cold in winter that they hurt. However, I do not love the way that they stretch out, mainly in the width, which is odd, after a very short time wearing them.

I complained in an earlier review that the balls at the end of the toe stitching on these socks were causing me problems and I have found a solution-I just tuck the ball at the little-toe end ( where it was worst) under my foot more. This seems to help. I felt bad about giving them such a bad review.

I don't think this is actually an LL Bean fault, but whoever made these socks did a horrible job of closing the toe. It is exceptionally uncomfortable on the foot.

I have been buying and loving the Merino Wool Ragg socks for too many years to recall exactly when my love for them began. Because they have been so warm and comfortable, I have worn them from fall through spring since that time. Their price is fairly high, but I don't mind paying for quality items. (I have "darned" those past socks at least once and maybe twice, as the heels wear thin-to-a-hole, which is expected from a lot of wear regardless of quality. The past quality has been superb, so I never minded darning them. I have then purchased more when the need has arisen. I have recently purchased a new set, and I am very disappointed in the current quality. They are thinner, stretch out quickly when wearing, and it's obvious the percentage of wool is lacking compared to past socks. I'm hoping this is just a fluke. I will try them one more time before moving on, and will certainly miss my favorite old socks if this is the "new" version.

Grew up wearing rag wool hiking/winter boot socks with great satisfaction. These are not your 1980's rag wool socks. Quality is not commensurate with premium price. The toe stitching is noticeable and annoying. Would not recommend for hiking shoes.

I purchase two sets of the socks. Pack of two gray and pack of multi and maroon. I wear size 6 woman's shoe, but wanted to use these as something to wear to keep feet warm and wear without shoes around the house. Had them a year. Rotated all 4 pairs. All four pairs have developed holes in the heel.

My husband loved these socks and wore them often but without a reinforced heel that part of the sock wore out prematurely. I ended up tossing them when the rest of the sock was in good shape but the heels were shot. [Yeah, I could have darned them but I didn't know when I would get around to it and or how that would extend the life of the socks. ] Thanks.

Size down. I bought these thinking a small was the right size but should have gotten x small. Decided to try to shrink in hot water and that seems to have worked.

Great socks! They are comfortable warm and easy to put on. Bean recommends turning them inside out to wash. If you don't you wind up with loads of little fuzz balls which are impossible to remove. So, for this reason would not purchase again which is disappointing because they are very comfortable and warm.

I purchased these for my trip to Alaska to be worn with my L L Bean hiking boots. Unfortunately, even with a lighter weight sock beneath these, my feet did not stay warm. In fact my toes felt as though they were froze. Probably will keep my feet warm in Oklahoma but definitely did not in Alaska.
