Expected a more substantial weight and weave. Its akin to how an afgahn is knitted, with a lot of air flowing through the weave. And the cut and drape is not complimentary, with a boxy look and rather pointy shoulder seams.

I purchased this sweater as I love to spend time outside in the colder months of the year, and thought that this would be a great, functional item to keep me warm. In terms of appearance, the sweater is absolutely perfect. However, this past weekend I spend about 3 hours outside in temperatures in the low 50s, and this sweater did next to nothing to cut the breeze, or to maintain heat.
Long story short, if you are looking for a look this is the sweater for you, if you are looking for an item to keep you warm while outside you may want to look elsewhere.

I have own wool sweaters from LL. Bean for 20 years and they still look perfect.
BUT the ones I bought last year for my gf a I are definitely not on par with LL Bean reputation. They started pilling immediately, they are so much thinner and lighter than the old ones. What a shame. Never again buying from LL Bean

Seriously shrank and shed with following wash directions exactly. Maybe it would work with dry clean?? Returned. Don't think this material should be washed at all.

I bought this in June to wear in the Fall. The tag says lambs' wool made in Jordan. After six weeks it is covered with pills. It is warm and fits well, but I am 79 and have enough pills in my life.

Why is there Spandex in everything today? This sweater replaced one that was 20 years old. Nice sweater until I put it on and it clung to me like an electrostatic pith ball. Had to put my arms inside and stretch it out, only to have it snap back close to where it was. If this is progress and the future LL Bean clothing has taken a bad turn. GET RID OF YOUR SPANDEX FETISH!!!!!

The current edition of this classic doesn't match up to previous purchases. Just weeks into my wearing it it's looking like a ratty old work sweater for getting wood into the house in.

It's a shame that I was lied to twice about when the item would ship. My child is by themself across the country and this was what they wanted. So disappointed in a company that used to be so reliable.
Disappointed,

Not what I ordered. I ordered the Commando Sweater in Small and you sent this other model in XL?!

It's going to Goodwill.
Bottom ribbing flares out, like a little tutu, because of the way it is knit and the fabric.

I purchased this sweater for my husband for Christmas. The colour is nice and I love the fact that there are tall sizes offered (he's 6'2"). Sadly, the sweater went back because it is SO ITCHY. And I don't even have sensitive skin. I even tried it with a shirt underneath and it was still itchy! I don't understand why these sweaters are even made. Don't the designers make sure the wool isn't itchy? I don't know if LL Bean used cheap wool or not because I have 100% wool sweaters from other retailers and they aren't itchy at all. I returned the sweater for a refund.

I bought this sweater, assuming it would be of good quality. My husband wore it, the pilling immediately started and the sweater is not appropriate to wear anyway but in the backyard.
Will never buy another product from L.L. Bean

Will notify the cc card company for refund!-. Very dissatisfied!

When you open package, be very thorough on your inspection. The last several times I have ordered these, they were full of holes and sewing defects. Hold item up to well lit window and look for the holes. Quality has gone away from LLBEAN. I sent my LLBEAN Credit Card back to them along with their sweaters.

Poorly made. I'm disappointed with this sweater. I'm 5'10", 210 lbs. and always were an XL. This sweater was oversize on me. Also, the yarns were very loosely woven. After wearing it for a couple of hours it had stretched half way down to my knees.

I loved LL Bean Ragg wool sweaters. But, not this one! The knit was loose, the body was way too long and out of proportion, the neck was loose and sloppy. The color was beautiful.
I sent it back. I will appreciate the ones I have a bit longer.

Terrible quality! Sleeves and side started pilling within hours of first wear! Loved the feel and warmth, but this sweater would look horrible in no time! Disappointed!

I purchased a large, which my other LLB sweaters are. The sweater I got was way longer in the sleeves (they measured just under 37 in) and body length (it measures 30 inches) than the size guide says a Large should be. Looks and feels way too big. Will have to try a medium. If that fits, then be aware that this sweater comes way oversized. If it doesn't, then perhaps mine was mis-marked and is actually an XL.

LL Bean once stood for quality. This sweater and the return process is proof the company has fallen badly from its once top level brand. The sweater is not soft, it is extremely itchy and needs a layer underneath it. It also has a strong smell of lamb which I assume you would need to wash out.
Further when I went to rerun the item their customer service department INSISTED that I pay the restocking fee of $6.50. They cannot and would not waive it under any circumstances. This is abysmal customer service so be forewarned. If you buy this they will charge you to return it online no matter what.
