Not a bad low elevation boot. I would not recommend High Peak winter hiking. I replaced removable insole with a pair of "SuperFeet" winter rated insoles for more warmth and foot and arch support. Even with that feet were cool snowshoeing in 20 degree temperatures. Leather appears to be good but I would recommend a water proofing treatment of some kind, I used Skidmore's Beeswax waterproofing. Not for mountaineering but with some tweaking a comfortable recreational winter and snowshoeing boot.

I only rated them a three because the back heel rest digs in when I walk uphill. The insulation is skimpy, not as warm as other ll bean boots I've had

Seems well built, but this boot is a no go for wide feet.

Last pair I had had good traction and were warm. Problem was they were too tight. I got a new pair that are one size bigger on they were a little better but I'm afraid they will rub the big toes knuckle at the ball of my foot. Hopefully they won't because I liked the boot..

It was a great boot (it would get a 5 for construction, quality, etc.) and wanted it to work for me - BUT - the toe box is too shallow. Was disappointed I had to return them.

Had a pair of winter boots that I purchased from LLbean 25+ years ago and they performed exceptionally. They finally needed replacing in January of 2022 so I search the LLBean website and found a pair that was the closest thing to what I had previously, the Storm Chaser Boot 5 Lace. When they arrived the first thing I noticed was that the quality doesn't seem to be nearly what my old boots were. In my opinion I could probably find the same at just about any retail store for much less. I gave 3 stars because I haven't used them enough to form a solid opinion but I would be amazed if these last more than 3 winter seasons here in NE Ohio. Not going to return these as they were a gift but I will definitely be looking other places when these are done. I have included a photo of what my old pair looked like

This is my second pair of these boots. The first pair were made better than these. The eyelets are staggered and not even close to semetrical. The left boot is definitely made by a less experienced employee. Materials are wavy around stitching and disfigured. Hope this is a fluke and not a representation of new quality standards

Great boot, but returning. The toe box measured different on right boot, about 1/4 inch, small amount but just enough to rub my right toe. Unfortunately you can see the difference in the rubber toe area also. Returning but replacing hopefully not a problem with next pair.

The boots would have been fine if they had been wider. Unfortunately there are very very few styles for either men or women available in wide. I had to return these.

Warm, waterproof, great for snow an slush puddles.
But horrible on ice.
As with every new winter shoe and boot I have bought in recent years, it seems all the major mfg's have gone with the super hard rubber souls that feel grippy when dry, but absolutely useless on ice. The only boots I have that work well on ice are ones I bought over five years ago with softer rubber soles that are no longer available on boots/shoes.

I bought Men's Storm Chaser Boots 5 late December for walking in light snow and wet ground. As a tree farm owner in central New Hampshire, I like LLBean's winter and storm chaser products because I am outside year-round. I have owned these boots for 2 1/2 months & I like the fit, they are very comfortable, waterproof, and moderately warm in cool weather (28 to 40 F), and do well on hard surfaces. Yet the boot is extremely bad on any icy surface. The boots do not hold or grip on any ice. For example, The books slipped badly going up a 3-degree small snow cover slope with a windblown coating of ice. Other Bean boots I own have never had a problem on the same small incline in similar conditions. I recommend these boots for snow and wet surfaces, but avoid them on ice or icy conditions. They simply do not work.

My wife gifted me the previous version of these boots and I truly love them. They only get used a couple months of the year and are still as good as brand new. Thus I was saddened when pulling one of them on a couple weeks ago and feeling the inside lining rip at the seem, just as others have mentioned with this new iteration.
Been too long to return them now and not sure I would be as happy with a replacement. Since they have many years of life left, I resorted to the black duck tape fix to limit further damage. The internal lining work should be rethought.

Supposed to be wide; too narrow and size is a little small. Getting to be the norm with LL Bean products. Very disappointing!

I purchased these boots back in 2019 and use them less than a handful of times a year. I live in Richmond VA and typically only wear them on Ski trips out west; maybe 10 days a year. When not in use, they are in my bedroom closet, safe from the elements. They are warm, dry and comfortable but unfortunately the 'L.L.Bean' quality is not there. While the boots may be 4 years old, they have under 50 days wear time on them and the internal seem is already ripping. I tried to contact L.L. Bean for boot repair, but they do not repair this model boot. It seems that overall quality has dropped since they made the change in warranty a few years back.

What about a wide option in this boot ... your wide option has been reduced significantly over the years leaving us behind.

These boots are comfortable, nice looking, but not waterproof. We live in the mountains here in Idaho, lots of snow during the winter. I bought these boots because they are advertised as waterproof. When I come in from being out in the snow, like to snowblow our driveway, my left sock is always wet, I even applied roofing caulking around each boot where the rubber meets the leather. I would say they're better now but my sock still gets wet. I exchanged one pair after they leaked, LLBean is terrific on returns. The replacement boots had the same issue. I decided to keep them because I enjoy wearing them. I accepted the fact they aren't waterproof, and put on a dry pair of socks when they get wet.. I wear these boots everywhere, they're comfortable, but they should not be advertised as waterproof. I am a long term customer of LLBean, I appreciate their military discount, and will continue shopping with them. Next season, I will look for replacement boots. Thank you, George B.

They are waterproof, warm, and good for snow and slush. However, on ice they are deadly. Not sure what the "No-Slip Grip" is about, but I don't even use these if I think there will be any ice at all. Unfortunately, this seems to be a systemic issue with any winter boot I have bought in the last five years: The new tech soles are WAY to slick on ice.

I owned the older version of these boots from about 13 years ago and they were much wider and more comfortable. Unfortunately, I will be returning these.

I bought the storm chasers from the Albany, NY store Saturday the 7th. I wore them around the house Sunday just to feel the fit. I like them. They are extremely comfortable and have quite a "spring" to them when you walk. They are also very light in my opinion.
Monday morning, yesterday was a wet one so I figured I'd wear them to work. While putting them on, pulling from the back side "pull tab" the inner lining ripped open. The rip is about an inch and a half long. I'm going to exchange these for a new pair but I will pay close attention to this part of the boot in the future. Hopefully it is just a manufacturing defect on this one specific boot because I need a durable waterproof boot.

Loved them until one of the boot sized just torn apart.
Don't really know if LL Bean will do anything seeing the lifetime warranty is no longer offered

my normal shoe size is 8.5 but I got size 8 and it was still way too big. also, the tongues are too wide so when I tied them, the material on the side of the tongues bunches and folds and presses painfully into the front/sides of my ankles.

The problem is - they are too tight.
The web site instructions were to order the same size as your regular shoes or hiking boots. I currently have four pair of LL Bean Men's Trail Model 2 & 3 Hiking Boots size 11.5 wide, so that is the size I ordered. By the way I have Peripheral Neuropathy and these hiking boots are the most comfortable and best ankle support made bar none. (I've tried different boot brands like most people buy socks) If I told one person on my PN support groups, I've told a thousand.
I was hoping to wear a boot sock with the Storm Chasers but it's just a thin sock. I have been wearing them just inside the house weekly since December hoping they will stretch out but no luck.
The Storm Chaser Boots are certainly well made with excellent materials. And stylish looking too, everything one would expect from LL Bean.

The mfg facility in Vietnam for LL Bean is selling Wide Toe Box sizing as same as Regular. It is obvious. Then to return because its too small Bean wants $6.50.
Will report to Bean customer services and see about this.
