I was on the hunt for a flannel-lined jacket or hoodie and found this hooded zip up sweatshirt, which I thought was the perfect match. My bad for not thoroughly reading the description (because my gripe IS there), but the arms do not have the same cozy flannel lining. Instead, they're lined with polyester, which for the price paid feels incredibly cheap. I usually wear a t-shirt under my hoodie and this lining never warms to body temperature so it's not as comfortably warm as the rest of the hoodie. I'm still just mind-boggled over this--even just opting for fleece or brushed cotton (if not carrying through the flannel) would have made sense and been far more comfortable. At $100 this hoodie feels excessively overpriced for half of it being polyester. Disappointing.

The current item is not as heavy as the ones from couple of years ago. Previously purchased Item OJAY9, made very well and nice and heavy. The current Item # 511528 is much lighter and fits much larger than previous same size. Also had purchased several Item ID 285369 which were just a little lighter than for-mentioned also made very well. Still the newer version is lighter made. most likely will not make purchased again.

The sticky nylon used for the inner lining of the sleeves made this hoodie an absolute disappointment. It wasn't mentioned in the description so I thought $89 must be a really good deal. Sorry but I was disappointed. The sleeves get very sticky as soon as you start sweating, making it quite uncomfortable and not worth the price.

A few years back in time, the Men's Katahdin Iron Works Hooded Sweatshirt was twice the quality it is now. The garment was more like a Jacket, thicker and well insulated throughout including the hood. Not anymore. Sweatshirt in the past had inner pocket in both hand warmer pockets with Velcro. Not anymore, Only one pocket has this feature. It's OK if your looking for full zip hooded sweatshirt but , it's not a garment to stay warm in outside below freezing. This Garments Quality Went Down In The Wrong Direction. L.L. Bean dropped the ball here for sure. If this garment's quality had stayed the same as before, or even better then before. I would've been more then glad to pay $120.00. Again if your looking for a Hooded Full Zip Sweatshirt, it's OK but kind a pricy for what it is!

This item would have been nice if it didn't have the strange lining in the sleeves. If it had no lining or the flannel lining, that would be fine.

Recently stopped by the store in Freeport with the express intent of buying a new Katahdin sweatshirt. The new version is unfortunate, especially compared to older editions. I own one from 2010 that had a water resistant shell on top of the sleeves and hood. I own another from 2015 and although it's as heavy as my original, it doesn't have the water repellent shell. Point being you can see the decline in quality of this product over time. Couldn't bring myself to purchase a new one, it was about as heavy as a standard cotton sweatshirt and wouldn't have fit any layers underneath.

Not the same quality as years past! I have been buying one per year for more than a decade. Spend much time in the Adirondack mountains of New York. This is lighter than the older ones, not as warm, and only has the double Velcro pocket on one side. I bought this garment for years because of its functionality and this one just does not meet the standards as they have in the past! I would give the old ones a five star rating. The slight changes make all the difference for the worse.Any old hoodie at the half the price would do the same job as this. I would rather pay a little more for the real deal!

As others have mentioned on their reviews, the lining in the sleeves are not comfortable on your skin. I was hoping to wear this around the house on chilly mornings with maybe a short sleeve shirt underneath. That would be uncomfortable with this sweatshirt. Also, medium fits me perfectly for everything else LL Bean makes, but this was too small for an outer garment. I had to return it. It sounds like the previous version of this hoodie was a great product.

Just a question:
This is a great product, but why Polyester sleeve lining? With any sweat wearing a short sleeve shirt makes the lining stick to your arms. Just a silly thing to do!
Fix it and I'll buy the next version! This one is going back, however.

Really - this is just a nice sweatshirt. It's not special.
I love the Katahdin Iron Works Hooded Sweatshirt I bought in 2013 - it was/is very special.
As another viewer noted the 2020 version is not insulated. The 2013 purchase description was, "Katahdin Iron Works Sweatshirt INSULATED Nor'easter Cotton Zip Hooded Men's Regu."
LL Bean - why did you change the design so much and keep the same name? You have shaken my faith and reduced the value in this product name.
Returning.

This is my 3rd Katahdin sweatshirt and I am very disappointed that there is only 1 interior security pocket there has always been 2. I use them all the time for things I don't want to lose or gloves. If it wasn't for tall sweatshirts being hard to find not much else makes it worth the price.

Thin and cheap, not worth the price. LLBean used to be known for quality. Shame.

The material is very thin, I was expecting more when it said it was flannel lined. When I received 2 of these in a box I was like, I hope thats not two of them in there. It was. Not good for cold weather or worth the money.

I bought 3 of these. As mentioned by several prior reviewers, the sleeve liners have all shredded in only 3 months. All 3 returned

Last year it was 100% cotton, heavy weight and the most comfortable sweatshirt I could find. It was my favorite sweatshirt available anywhere by far and I was happy to pay $100+ for it. This year they lined the arms with polyester lining which obviously feels nothing like cotton and defeats the primary purpose of me spending $100 on a sweatshirt. This is no longer a "comfy" option for me. If I wanted plastic, there are much cheaper options... made entirely out of plastic. This plastic arms should be clearly marked and shown in the photos.

Inner sleeve material torn, had to return. I don't understand why LL Bean continues to advertise this sweatshirt along with the fleece lined when they do not have inventory in all sizes and colors. Frustrating............

I've owned this sweatshirt for a good 10 years. The cuffs are now fraying, so I ordered a new one without seeing it beforehand. OMG not at all the same. Lightweight, no stuffing in the flannel lining at all, no double sipper or heavy-duty sipper like before. No good for winter weather. Doubled in price since my first one.
Definitely not worth it!

Nice thick sweatshirt, however the lining on the inside of the sleeve was not stitched.

The sweatshirt is a little bulky, which is OK, but the sleeves are not flannel lined and incredibly uncomfortable. I do not understand why they thought polyester sleeve linings on a sweatshirt was a good idea. It doesn't have a warm or cozy feeling at all.
There is also a small mesh pocket with a velcro close in the front right pocket that just feels weird when you put your hands in there.
I am returning this.

I have multiple prior versions of this sweatshirt that I love and wear daily. Liked one of the new color combos and thought I'd ask for it as a birthday gift. What a disappointment. The sleeves are no longer fleece and are now taffeta. Not at all enjoyable on the skin with a t-shirt, which is what I wear 99.99967% of the time. This change should have been highlighted as a major departure from earlier versions in the description.

The sleeves aren't lined with flannel, the sleeves are taffeta. It's uncomfortable if worn with a tshirt underneath. It's intended to be worn with a long sleeve shirt under it. Not a bad thing, but I wouldn't have bought it if I knew that before buying it.
