This is my third pair of Hokas, I bought the Bondi 8s a few months before the Gaviota 4s after owning some trail running shoes with a high rocker. I have wide, flat feet with practically no arch. I run & walk on pavement and trails. Bondis are better for running, they're lighter and cushier. The Gaviotas are more stable, have a less flexible base, and have a narrower bed around the ball/front of your foot. I wear the Gaviotas sometimes with my standup desk and they've been good. Wouldn't recommend it as your primary road-running shoe, but another great product by Hoka nonetheless.

There's a little less toe room in this model than the previous one so I had to go up a half size to fit with my custom orthotic. Appreciate the black color.

With the price tag on these shoes and the reviews that I read, I was expecting more comfort.

I hate the new laces as they are too slippery and are difficult tie and stay tied even when knotted. The loop on the back feels flimsy and I don't feel comfortable using it. Even at wide rubbing little toe and where bone is. Last pair fit great so I don't know what changed.

I have always purchased the Gaviota in 8 wide, however, after wearing them, the Gaviota 4 feels much tighter and shorter to me. They are still my favorite shoe, however, I would consider sizing up on my next pair. This is my fifth pair.

These shows are very cushiony but my one foot is still hurting wearing them. There is not as much pain as there was, but it's not helping like I was told these shows would. Next time I'm going to try the Bondis, to see how they are.

I have been buying Hokas for 7 years and love them. This pair, however, is a bit too tight. I ordered and received the same size as always. I don't know what to make of it.

This is my first pair of Gaviotas. I’ve been wearing Bondi. I was looking for something with more support. And these have more support. I’m hoping these break in. These shoes have changed how I walk…

I really like these shoes. I have Planters Fasciitis and they were recommended by my PT. They are very stable and I am looking forward to my foot pain going away. My only gripe is the laces. They are constantly coming loose and I have to retie them at least every hour or so. I could do a double knot but then I have to spend a bunch of time picking the knot when I want to take them off. I think the lace material is a little slippery. I'll probably replace the laces but it would be nice if I didn't have to for the price. I still recommend them though and would purchase again.

I did the foot trace and measure technique recommended and it came out to be my normal size, 6. They run a bit big for me. I wore them for a day, just to make sure it wasn't just me, so now I can't return them. I can tell, with the right size, they would be an amazing shoe. So many people had recommended them to me, health professionals, beauticians, people on their feet a lot, so I had to give them a try. Next time I will order a size smaller because I feel sure they are an excellent shoe.

Could have a better grip. Any moisture on floor makes it slippery.

Very comfortable especially since still recovering from Trimalleor fracture. Have high instep and shoe is not made for that. Using orthotic which helps with stability. But very roomy and cushioned.

I guess my gaviota 3 seem to be more cushioned...than the new gaviota 4...I probably would go back to them or research best walking shoe

The fit, cushioning and cloler, black and white are great. I have used the shoe for walking and travel. This model is different than the previous one. I feel, when my foot comes forward that my toes are falling off the footbed, maybe not enough padding? This model also has pieces of plastic that run up either side of the laces, and the laces are made out of a slick material. This makes it harder for me to adjust the tightness and the slick laces keep coming undone. I now have the double knot them. Overall, I really do like the shoe. No blister or anything rubbing and they are really comfortable!

I'd been wearing the Mach and Arahis while waiting for the Gaviotas to come back into stock. With my orthotics, the arahis are great, but the extra lift from my orthotics sets my heels a bit higher and it wears out the back padding inside the shoes. I was hoping to get the Gaviotas and be able to run without the orthotics, but despite being quite comfortable, I can still feel my feet rolling inward, pronating. My feet sit quite deep in the Gaviotas, making the top of the shoes hit my pokey bones on both sides of each ankle. That's taking some time to get used to! Also, they are the same size as my other Hokas, but feel way bigger, wider and longer. I'll keep these but will likely go back to the arahis with my orthotics, to save on some weight and bulk once these wear out. Lastly, this is minor, but was more of an annoyance, when the Gaviotas arrived, the two shoes were laced entirely differently. To the point that they looked dumb next to each other so I had to replace one to make them match. Not a huge deal, but the eyelets on these shoes are not the easiest to pull through. For the cost, I'd expect them to come laced the same! I've tried to submit this three times now and it keeps failing when I try to upload a photo, so I'm trying without it.

I've been wearing Asics for 17 years and wanted to give Hokas a try. LOVE their try on for 30 days because I ordered 3 at a time. I quickly knew after 1-2 walks with my dog the 2 I didn't like. So I stuck with the Gaviotas for about a solid week before I realized they were too big on me. So I did an exchange for half a size smaller and they fit! But they rubbed the side of my feet. And also with the blazing heat, my feet felt so dang hot. So I took a break and wore my old Asics for a week. I could feel quite the difference in the 2, meaning, I could tell Hoka is built completely different and yes, a well built and structured shoe. So at this point I thought I might keep them. But after wearing them again, as the temps get hotter, my feet felt hot, and they must swell and rub the sides. I wish I had another 30 days to give it a try! haha I might try them again in the fall and maybe even a wider toe box.

I usually wear the Hoka Bondi style but I wanted a walking shoe with better stability and support. I ordered the Brooks Addiction and the Hoka Gaviota 4 to compare. The Brooks Addiction felt like it had more support than the Hoka Gaviota 4, and felt lighter on my feet than these did. The arch support on the Hoka Gaviota 4 was further towards my heel which made it feel uncomfortable and sort of clunky when I walked. I returned these and kept the Brooks Addiction.

Love the support of the Gaviota. Has helped with the foot pain that I was experiencing while running. Also love that they are vegan. But with both the Gaviota 3 and the Gaviota4 I have had problems with the rubber on the bottom of the soles wearing off very quickly. Even after my first run of a few miles, there was a lot of wear on the outside edges of the soles. So I have to replace them more often than my shoes from other brands. If it wasn't for this, I would give them five stars.

After developing DVT, behind my left calf, I needed a sturdy yet cushioned sneaker to rehab and these were perfect. I still prefer my Clifton 8's for races but am extremely happy with my purchase

These were the first pair of hokas that I've been disappointed with. I wish I could return them but I've had them too long. I only wore them four times and each time I felt like I was wearing a pair of wooden shoes from Holland. They are not plush on the bottom like the bondi or even the Cliftons. I would not buy them again.they make my feet hurt.

These shoes are great! I work in a hospital and I am on my feet all day. I have major issues with my back and spine due to a car accident and these are the only ones that keep my back from hurting. However, I wish they would have more color choices in the Gavioto as well.

The pictures make it seem like the cushion is much more than it is. They are comfortable, but I think overrated. They are no more comfortable however, then a good Merrills, Nike ir New Balance. But obviously I'm showing my ignorance.
