I've only gotten about 200 trail miles and the tread has already gotten a smooth flat spot on both shoes

I had read that Speedgoat ran "narrow". I also read by some expert bloggers that it was "wide". How crazy is that. It definitetly runs narrow. I should be able to wear a Men's Regular wide which would be close if that equivalent to a women's WIDE width. Not in this shoe. I would have to try a MEN"S WIDE next . Also, I would say its "length" is a tad on the shorter side to other Hoka shoes.
I did prefer the blue and electric yellow color vs the mexican hat dance colors of the others. At least it was darker that odd ball bright or combo color mixes of the others.
Cushion ... yes. But I didn't try them much due to my little toe being squeezed. Knew it was a GO BACK right away.

I've run exclusively in Hoka shoes for the last 6 years and this is the first time I can say I that I do not recommend this product. I've had the Speedgoat 2, 3, 4, and now 5 and have put extensive mileage on all of them. Out of all of them, the Speedgoat 5's have been the least durable. After about 200 miles in my Speedgoat 5's, both shoes have large tears where the upper meets the midsole around the forefoot, rendering them awful for trail running as all of the debris gets in as well as the looseness causing lockdown issues in the forefoot area. Also, after only about 100 miles I noticed that the insoles are significantly thinner than previous models, which along with the increased toe box room, has resulted in one of my insoles frequently slipping in the shoe as I run, to the point that my toes are completely on the midsole and the insole is curling up the back of my heel and causing blisters.
For context, I am a larger guy, 6'1" and ~215lbs, and I run anywhere between 10-40 miles a week on both road and trail. I used to run high school cross country, during which, my Speedgoat 2's and 3's each held up for well over 600 miles of running and only needed to be replaced due to the lugs being completely rubbed off and the foam losing some of its cushion. My Speedgoat 4's were slightly disappointing as the thin plastic tongue and the slightly harder midsole made the shoe less comfortable to run in, but at least they still lasted over 500 miles.
That being said, the Speedgoat 5 doesn't come CLOSE to any of its predecessors. I run on the same trails, for the same distances, at the same speed, and I am still about the same weight, and yet, they have lasted less than half the distance that my previous pairs have. This all comes down to the new flimsy knit upper, paper-thin insoles, and inadequate overlay reinforcement around the toe box/forefoot. While the midsoles are a dream to run on, the sheer inattention to detail in the rest of the shoe ruins it all.

These are light and offer good support with plenty of cushioning. I bought them for rocky trail running, but they are also great on the road. I wore them to death, so now I am getting another pair!

I love these shoes so much I've either run or hiked in them just about every day since I got them. These probably my favorite shoes that I've ever owned in terms of comfort and functionality. However I am slightly disappointed in the quality I kind of expected a certain amount of quality from Hokas and after only a few months of use they are already falling apart. The fabric on the top of the shoe has worn away and frayed. The shoe lace aglets have fallen off multiple times. The sides of the sole of the shoe have lost the decal paint and look kinda silly now. The tread has worn almost completely away. Most of the decals in the shoe have either fallen off lost their color or torn. And the connection point to the sole on the front has completely fallen off. I love these shoes and will continue to use them they still work great I just wish they were slightly more durable and that they would include aesthetics that didn't fall apart so easy

I wear the Speedgoats around town and on graveled and paved trails. They are very comfortable and the fit seems true to the sizing. They feel wider than the newer Speedgoat 6, and my D-width feet and toes appreciate the wider toebox and forefoot area. Too early to tell how durable they will prove to be but so far, so good.

Used this for running on trails and took a dip with them in the river too. It held up very well. Very comfy and grippy on difficult terrains.

these shoes are perfect...great support and fit -- just the right amount of cushion in the shoe
these are great for the gym and walking ...will use on 'groomed' trails vs rugged terrain
i had both knees replaced and was looking for a shoe that would be good for getting back into walking and hiking
i tried a couple of helly hanson brand shoes and a speedgoat 6 and a challenger 7 ...all were a little to stiff and didn't have the cushion I was looking for...assume that is by design for different uses
appreciate that i can order / try / return shoes thru zappos ... thats why I purchase all my shoes through them

In the beginning, I used Under Armour shoes for 5ks and Races. But ever since I've got into Hoka's shoes. Without a doubt would buy these types of shoes, especially this particular shoe. This shoe is an excellent, quality design, and is amazing for training in the gravel or grass. I would buy this product again!

I purchased one pair of Seedgoat 5's and two pairs of Speedgoat 6's (all different colors). I have had operations on both feet and cannot with any comfort wear golf shoes. I use these for golf and my feet do not hurt at all. The tread keeps be stable during the golf swing. I will never go back to golf shoes!

Honestly bought these for work. My goodness, never felt more comfortable, more ergonomic, I felt a difference in my back poster. I felt like I was walking on a cloud, that had massive grip, and very aggressive look! These always get great attention, and good for people that work overnight at Frito-Lay! Recommend 1000/10!

This is an early review. ~25 miles hiking/running/scrambling in the Wasatch and Moab. First impression upon stepping in was awesome. Bio feedback counts for lots in performance apparel. I have barely wide feet by technical standards. The footbed shape fits so well. It fits just right as compared to the Tecton x2 (too snug) and Mafate Speed 4 (a little play). The SG5 stretch upper material is not as protective as the upper material on the MS4. But it provides uniform gentle compression that eliminates slippage inside the shoe when off camber, which inspires mad confidence. So does the Mega Grip outsole. I felt glued to the slick rock in Moab. I get equivalent comfort from the SG5 single piece midsole as I do from the MS4 dual layer. My only criticism of the SG5 is the thin tongue sometimes slips a little; same as the Tx2, but nonexistent in the chonkier MS4 tongue. I'd put a MS4 tongue in the SG5 to make it a perfect trail shoe. Though it's pretty close as is.
