My mom (77-yrs old) had a stroke on 1/14/22 which affected her entire right side (leg, foot, hand, and slight speech).
She began PT, OT & ST on 1/20/22. As her speech, hand movement and walking have began returning, she has had a difficult time picking up her right foot and she continues to drag it as she walks with her walker. Today I took her to MOUNTAIN RUNNING COMPANY in Boone, NC. After discussing her needs the salesman (owner I believe) he pulled 3-shoes for her to try. The first shoe was the ALTRA PARADIGM 6…people you would have thought he placed a glass slipper on her foot. She walked across the store with little to no dragging and was done! The salesman was so kind to her and explained that this shoe has a “0 Drop”. This means that the heel and toe are level, just like if you were walking around barefoot.
Although she does not have a wide foot, her physical therapists and occupational therapist told us to: 1) get her something comfortable to her foot, and 2) get bigger toe box.. then all 3-ladies (each wearing a different brand) showed us theirs sneakers with a bigger toe box (not fat feet, just bigger toe-box).
With all this being said, her ALTRA PARADIGM 6 has a bigger toe box, 0-Drop, is only 9-oz in weight, and run 1-size small (mom wears a US size 8, and he put her in the US size 9 which fit perfect)..
I was so happy to see her improvement just by switching her shoes, and very thankful for the young man that took the time and was knowledgeable enough to put her into something that is literally life changing (I men that).
Can she run a marathon now…not hardly, but she can pick her foot completely off the ground without dragging it, and that will aid in her quick recovery and independent living.

I have a narrow heel and a wide forefoot, need support and am coming back from major orthopedic surgery, so I really needed a comfortable shoe to do my PT in and hopefully return to running in. These are the shoes for the job! They are comfortable and cushiony but also incredibly stable and solid. They are a great base for my insoles, and the fit is beautiful - snug enough in the heel and mid foot and generous in the forefoot. Huge props to Kara and the design team!

Order a half size up. Torin 4.5 and Escalante in same size have 1/2" more room in length and 1/4" more in width. Cushioning is excellent. I normally use PowerStep Pulse insoles for added support. They will not fit inside these because of the sizing issue, but I've walked in these shoes for two weeks (about 70 miles) and have not missed the Power Steps, so the support is good. Normal and comfortable tongue (unlike Torin); laces plenty long. Having a bit of trouble with Thorlo roll-top socks sliding down into shoe, so switched to low-cuff socks. Upper fabric is a little less giving cf. other models; also has less ventilation. Soles are thick and treads look more substantial. Altra heels wear out first for me, and these are definitely better constructed, with 1/2" of lowermost sole wrapping up and over rest of heel. Because of this, I think they will last longer. This shoe has some reflective fabric and that's a plus for early walks. I may return for a half size larger before my 30 days are up, but I would definitely buy these again.

I got severe neuropathy in my feet from chemotherapy and couldn't wear any of my shoes any longer because of the pain. I could hardly even get around my house. I'd gone to Altitude running in Greeley,CO before so I went back and Jessy suggested the Altra Paradigms and super soft running socks. What a relief to be able to wear shoes and get around better. That was in November 2021. I put my Altras on first thing in the morning and don't take them off until bedtime. They are the only shoes I wear, home, church, shopping and exercise. I'm off Chemo now and cancer free, praise the Lord and my feet are getting better, but I'm still going to keep wearing my Altra Paradigms. I recommend them to all my friends at rehab. I have narrow feet so they fit my feet great and I buy half a size larger.

I waited a while to write this review because I wanted to be sure, but I think I've found my Unicorn Shoe! I have a hard to fit foot - narrow heel, comparatively wide forefoot, and low/flat arches. This shoe fits perfectly and feels amazing! The pictures make the Paradigm look like a heavy, max cushion shoe, but it is definitely not. For comparison sake, it is more shoe than the Provision, but feels lighter and less stiff than the Brooks Adrenaline. I HATED the Provision - too wide in the heel, rubbed my little toe, and there was a pressure point in the instep that killed me. I almost didn't try the Paradigm but I am so glad I did! I ran a 10K trail race this weekend (I know, they're not trail shoes) and had no foot or toe pain that I was getting in my Adrenalines. I'm just waiting for these to go on sale so I can stock pile them. Please, never change them!
Note: I have a narrow foot and this fits perfectly, so I could see someone with a normal to wide foot feeling like they are too narrow.

These are very comfortable walking shoes that provide great stability and cloud-like cushioning. Choose ½ to one full size larger than your usual.

The absolute best running shoe I have ever had. I am a DPT student right now and there are so many things about this shoe that support a proper running gait that really impress me. The biggest thing I love is how big the toe box is so my feet can spread out they way they need too but they aren't ugly like some other shoes. I also love the guiderails technology they have to support the arch and prevent excessive ankle pronation which is one of my biggest issues. I have struggled with Achilles tendinitis for 4 months now and today was my first run without pain thanks to these shoes. Do yourself a favor and invest in these, you won't be sorry.

I put these shoes on and immediately was struck by how light and comfortable they are, but also how good they feel. I ran in them for over 30 minutes and the only time I thought about my shoes was to think about how good my feet felt while running. It is safe to say that I am in love with these shoes and would absolutely purchase them again.

These Altra's have saved me. After 8 years of heel fractures, tib fib fracture, and bilateral neuromas, I'm walking without pain for the first time. Absolutely blown away. Please make flip flop or sandal with exact same footbed.

This shoe has absolutely saved me. I have bad bunions that were getting smashed with my brooks and asics. So I did my research and made the move over to Altra. Best decision I've ever made. I loved them so much that I purchased 2 pairs, got the carbon racing flat and a trail shoe! I'm a full on Altra gal now.

I chose to try the Paradigms over the Torin 5 given the changes in the Torin. My feet and legs after around 6 miles are not happy in this shoe. They weren't happy in the Torin 5 - I have worn Torin's since the dawn of time and love them. This is the second time Altra changed the design to the detriment of the shoe. Really don't know where I will end up.

Hands down the best shoe out there. After having a tumor removed and constant foot pain, this is the only shoe that frees me of pain and allows me to walk normal. I've bought a total of 5 pairs

I live in Birkenstocks, and after I had a severe ankle break, my ortho surgeon scolded me and told me to stop wearing sandals and to get good shoes. I also can no longer wear my Dansko clogs. I saw some coworkers at my hospital wearing this brand of athletic shoes and I'm so glad I gave Altra a chance. The Paradigms are the most comfortable shoes I have ever put on my hooves and they have been a saving grace for PT and learning how to walk around without the boot again.

I have been suffering with Mortons neuroma for about 3 years. Have tried different shoes and recently had cortisone shots in my foot to try to relieve the pain. On a FB group this shoe was recommended and I decided why not. Well, I put it on and have worn it every day since. Absolutely not more than an occasional twinge since I started wearing them. The insole is very cushy and the zero drop puts no pressure on the ball of my foot and my toes. What a relief!

I’d recommend the Altra Paradigm 6 to these looking for a sneaker that is true to size and width. I used my Superfeet Green insets, needed more support than what came with the shoe. Love the wide toe bed, excellent!!

I wish I could buy 5 pairs of these shoes. My feet, knees, hips, and back love them. I always hurt after jogging or walking too far, but not since getting these. Thank you Altra for making them! I've had pelvic trouble since having my first child and it affected my entire body. While these shoes may not be the only thing that are helping me get better, I do believe they're a key piece of the puzzle. I definitely recommend them.

Love Hoka's but wanted more flexibility in the sole so i can better feel the ground but still have cushion and support. These are not as wide as the Escalante, they fit a little more snug in the toe box but enough to be more secure. Purchased at running store to be sure of a perfect fit.

I was fitted for new running shoes at my local running store and this was recommended for me since I have a wider toe box and needed gentle stability. I was a little nervous about making a switch from my usual shoe but gave these a try and I'm glad I did! They feel like running on air pillows, and the stability element is non-intrusive. I hope they hold up well - only time will tell - but I am really happy with them so far.
