Usually when the next iteration of a product is released it has some kind of improvement on its predecessor. While the 6 does have better stile and looks it is hugely inferior in the ways that matter most. The 5's are the only shoe I've ever found that have barefoot stile cushioning that was protective, laced up in a way that prevents your heal from slipping out, zero drop, a wide toe box and a singular rubber tread that has excellent grip (thanks to Vibram). Take away one of those and you're left with something you can get from any other company. If you're just going to do moderate jogging this will be fine, but for the athletes that will be pushing yourself's save your money. Why? Because Merrel decided to save a little bit of money on the rubbers and not have a singular pice. This means when you're doing athletic stuff on your very grippy rubbers there's a seam for them to rip off the bottom of your shoe (this has happened to me many times). Want to go for a jog on a rocky trail? Better watch your step because those seems are just filled in with foam, a way to hurt your food and destroy your shoe at the same time. It took me years to wear holes through my 5's and days to tear the rubbers off my 6's.
