Very Poor Quality- Not anything that resembles L.L.Bean's Reputation. Very disappointed.

I am a loyal and long-time LL Bean customer. However, this flannel shirt is not what is advertised. The material feels great out of the bag, but it is rough after a single washing. It feels more like wool than like cotton. The material is also very thin -- not warm at all. The tag near the collar say that the shirt is made in El Salvador. The item number on the tag is 228061 so I'm sure I'm not confusing this with a different shirt. I have an old LL Bean flannel shirt that is fantastic -- extremely soft, warm, wonderful. That's what this shirt should be. I generally love LL Bean but something has gone wrong here.

Bought this shirt in a Med Tall and loved the feel and fit of the shirt until it was washed. The directions say it could be washed and dried on low. We followed the directions and the shirt sleeves shrunk at least 2 inches. We are disappointed and will be returning the shirt.

I've always been satisfied with purchases from L.L.Bean...but these shirts were an embarrassment to give as gifts. One went to a family member in New Mexico..was there when received for Christmas and it was all wrinkled...not from package wrinkles, but overall. Looked like something that had been slept in. Since it was a gift, the packaging was gone...he would have returned it, but way too much bother. The 2nd one was for my husband, and that wasn't any better. Would have hesitated even wearing them in public.

The new flannel shirts are softener, but at the cost of durability . I bought about 7 shirts in 2013/2014 and they are all pilling badly, most after only one washing. I have older flannel shirts by Bean's, at least 10 years old. They are stiffer, but still comfortable, and they are still in perfect shape. The new flannel is more expensive, but wears like the cheapest flannel I have encountered. Do not buy these

I was very disappointed in this shirt. It was way to thin for the price I paid. It will not keep anyone warm. I will be returning it.

The material is nice but beware - it shrinks badly! I ordered two online. One was backordered and I received the other. Upon receipt (but before washing) I tried it on, and it was too big. So I returned it to a local LL Bean store for a smaller size, and I called customer service and changed the size on the backordered one. At the store for the exchange, I even tried on the smaller size and it fit perfectly. I brought it home, washed it, and wow! The sleeves shrunk an inch and I couldn't even button it. Neither the website nor the store sign mentioned anything about shrinkage. Now I have to go back to the store againthis time, I am going to buy the more expensive "Wicked Good" flannel shirt. It is $10 more but described on the website as "won't shrink, no matter how many times you wash it."

Have bought several patterns of this shirt for my husband over the years. He is a tall, so we keep coming back because you carry his size and quality is usually great. The blackwatch pattern gave me a big surprise. Washed and dried it as usual with like colors, including with the grey stewart bought at the same time. The black watch shirt pilled and picked up white lint balls all over the shirt that would not come off; the grey stewart was fine ( still is). This happened after one (the first) wash! The shirt was unwearable after one wash and wear. I washed and dried it alone to try and save it and went after it with a lint roller, then a lint shaver. We really wanted to save this shirt! No change, still unwearable.Being a design director for a national menswear brand,I know how to wash and dry shirts and am more careful than most because I am in the business. This scenario is very unusual for an LL Bean flannel. Disappointed with the blackwatch patterns wash/dry durability. Really a shame, it was a brand new shirt, and a guy who lives in and loves his LL Bean flannels only had one wear out of the black watch flannel. He was very sad and just as surprised as I was. Highly unusual. We have so many of your flannels for years and years, but the black watch made it through only one wearing and washing.

I am so disappointed in this shirt. The fabric is balling up after only 3-4 washes. It's not holding up. I bought another one of the Scotch Plaid Flannel shirts for my son for Christmas in the Stewart fabric and he's not had a bit of problem with it. The cut and fit of the shirt are just fine though. I wear a large tall and if fits perfectly. I'm returning the shirt today for something else.

I agree with several posters here - the last few years' of the scotch plaid flannel have been inferior to the older ones. It is primarily the softness and the pilling that is much worse. This used to be my favorite shirt, and I am currently wearing one that may be 10 years old, very soft and comfortable. For the past couple of years, all the flannels are rough and pill badly, even after one wash.

The tall size was not even close to long enough in the sleeves. LLBean tall sizes are usually very dependable but this shirt was a disappointment.

The sleeves shrink an inch or two ...and I paid extra for tall size. Bean's has been fabulous about working on this with me. It's a no-win situation. I don't want a large ~ too big around the middle but the sleeves would be perfect after a couple washings. If I buy a medium tall, it's fine around the middle but it will shrink in the sleeves. Yes we are careful washers in cold water with a slight tumble dry to damp and we hang it up to finish drying. I'm disappointed in the shirt.

This quickly became my favorite shirt until I washed it and it shrank. The arms go really short. I sent it back to Bean.

After wearing and washing the shirt, I realized that it was not up to the quality that I have been used to getting from the LL Bean products that I have bought in the past.

After one washing the shirt completely pilled. My wife said she had to rewash the entire load to remove the lint. On top of that, the shirt shrank. The only reason I am giving this shirt one star is because I am required to in order to complete this review. These shirts used to be fantastic, now they are complete garbage.

The online image leads us to think that a scotch plaid color scheme is actually visible when in fact it is not if you order the dark shirt. Just received mine and it is basically completely black with no scotch pattern visible at all. My first and only disappointment with LL Bean in all these years, and I have to pay the shipping return on a misleading product photo. Lame.

Ordered this in Royal Stewart for my dad for Christmas. If it had been for me, I would've sent it back, but I'll let him decide. When I got the shirt, I went to my closet and pulled out one of my old Bean flannels-- quality has gone downhill since I last bought a Bean's flannel (mid-90's). Not thick and fuzzy, but thin and cheap feeling. Also, the plaid just didn't look right. My old ones are doing well, thank goodness, b/c the new ones don't look like they'll last as long.

The lint problem is exactly as a previous reviewer described. This shirt is a lint bomb. If lint were shrapnel and my other shirts people, my other shirts would be dead right now. I washed the shirt and threw it in the dryer. It completely clogged my lint filter. From what I could tell, it looks like almost half of the shirt material ended up in the lint filter of my dryer and on other clothing the first time around. I gathered enough lint after one washing to make a pair of flannel socks. Now I get to look forward to the tedious task of lint rolling the other clothes...

I bought four tossed them in the wash machine. When I took them out I got covered with lint. After cleaning up the mess I put them in the dryer which clogged the lint trap within minutes. So I shook them out and washed them again. More lint and a lot of pilling. The shirts were made in El Salvador and the stitching and detailing were great but, the fabric is awful.

I don't know much about fabrics, but have purchased more than a dozen LLBean flannel shirts over the years and this one is different. After only one washing, the cloth has a knappy look and feel. I've only encountered this once before and that was in a cheap pair of flannel sheets that did not last long. I would guess that the problem is either in the quality of the thread, or the way it is woven.
