As always, I prewashed the two flannel shirts that my husband received as gifts. The Black Watch plaid left a lot of lint in the washing machine (first time I have had that happen) and dryer, and on other clothes items as well. Had to pick off more bits of lint when I was ironing it. Both this shirt and other shirt have a different feel to the flannel than other Bean shirts that he owns like this. It's a softer flannel and not as easy to iron. I compared the "old" with the new and was shocked to see that the sleeves are a whole cuff-length longer, and about the same extra length to the whole shirt. Not your usual quality. Would not order again.

I have purchased many shirts from LLBean over the years and have always been a XL. While I have gotten many compliments on this shirt, it seems wrongly sized. The sleeves are excessively long and it is a bit larger in the chest than I expected. I own at least four sunwashed canvas shirts in XL and they fit me perfectly. In hindsight, I should have orderd this shirt one size smaller than I normally order. It did not shrink up in the wash as I had hoped it would. It seems like it was cut for a Big/Tall. I would recommend this to a friend with the caveat that they order a size smaller than what they normally wear.

This xl shirt was nowhere near "true to size." It was for a gift, and I was embarrassed when the only use we could find for it was to make a tent from the material. Had to spend an extra $6.50 to return the shirt which could easily have been avoided if LLBean had only advised me.

I love the roomy fit and button-down collar on this style, but the flannel started to look shaggy and pill after only a few washings. Strictly an around-the-house shirt now.

Material and quality of shirt is excellent but sizing was hard to get right for me. I ordered a XL tall which fit good but the sleeves were too short. I then paid to ship it back and ordered an XXL tall. The sleeves fit ok now but the shirt is huge, long and fits like a dress. I paid to ship it back for a refund. If you are tall I recommend trying on in store if that's an option for you. I've had problems with sizing here before and there's no stores in my area so I don't plan on shopping at LL bean anymore.

The material was great but it fit like a shapeless tent. As you can see I am not a small person. Fit in the chest & arms. Bottom part looked like a Hawaiian Muumuu. Just get tired of paying for returns.
Normally take 2xl

Purchased your best flannel shirt several months ago and it washes up well and looks great. This particular shirt, a grade lower is nor nearly as good. Recommend purchasing your top tier flannel, as for I will in future

Returned. Bought a few shirts, different styles along with this one. This one was nearly 2" wider at the waist and chest, and 3" longer sleeves. Granted, the other shirts weren't the same "model" but one would think there is some consistency or near standards in sizing. Returned it to local store and compared it with another pattern -same style- and it was very slightly smaller. Compared it with a smaller size and the Large was considerable smaller. I think there's some sizing issues. Store clerk didn't really seem to care. "That's just the way they're made..." No .... kidding.

First of all, the flannel shirt shown is not the one I purchased. I have several LL Bean flannel shirts and all others were consistent in fit and feel of the material. This shirt is different than the older ones. The Large size is much bigger, especially the length of the sleeves. The material feels lighter and thinner than previous flannel shirts I have bought.

My favorite shirt is my llBean Scotch Plaid Item#228966 that I bought years ago (maybe 8+) from llbean. It had held the test if time and the quality of the fabric has gotten better over time (like some of my fine linen shirts). I keep remaking about the fit and feel every time I I put it on. In recent years I have purchased almost all of the colors (I am looking at item#228061) and the feel of the fabric on the new ones are softer and cheaper, the colors fade faster, the fabric pills easier. It is a shame that they could not keep the quality of the fabric the same, I would pay 2X the price for a shirt like the one I was able to get years ago. Still made in El Salvador but NOT the same quality material. You can see the quality in the pictures pilling on the collar of the 1 year old shirt, no pilling on the 8yo shirt and the feel is totally different.

I ordered two of these shirts, one Gray and the other Stewart. First in my normal size of XLT. They were huge. I think the neck was at least an 18. I returned them for the same shirts in LT. Neck and sleeves were perfect. When I sat down the buttons gaped. Too small around the middle. I wear a 42 x 36 trouser. I think these shirts are not a "traditional" fit. I really wish they came in my size. I have several LLBean chamois shirts, they fit great.

Cheaply made, very thin and way too small for the "medium" size.

At 6' 1" and 220lbs, I originally ordered an XL (which I normally wear) and it was way to large in the body and the sleeves. I returned it and ordered the same shirt in a Large. Although it fit better in the body the sleeves on both shirts (XL & L) are too long. I'd hate to see what a 'Tall' shirt would be like.
The material is of good quality but the fit suffers.

This is a follow up to a past review. Initially I posted a 5* review, but that was after one laundry cycle.
After the second laundry cycle the fabric basically wilted and some of the stitching started to come out. Given that, I felt obligated to update and downgrade my review rating. Apologies to those that made decisions on my earlier posting.

The shirt is nice but the fit was terribly over-sized, especially the sleeve length which was about 6 inches too long I've worn large size shirts and jackets my whole life, and never received one that fit this poorly. I'm going to try a medium, but am concerned that the sleeves will still be too long or maybe I just got a bad batch. I bought 5 of these as Xmas gifts for my kids - none of them fit.

Fabric nice but 36 inch sleeves on a size medium regular shirt?

Everything was fine initially: shipping on time, fit good, color was great. After a wash or two, the sleeve length seemed to shrink and the finish of the fabric was just not the quality that I'm used to seeing from LLBean.

Although I ordered medium, the chest was sized more like 46-48. Worst fit ever. Otherwise it is a good product. LL Bean's sizing charts are grossly misleading.

I have purchased these flannel shirts for years in xl. This year I bought one and I am swimming in it. Did you change the sizing this year?
May have to return for a smaller size, unless this is mislsbeled.

I purchased two flannel shirts and they both fit perfectly in the store ( my spouse agreed). We washed them as directed on the label and now they are equivalent to the next size down. Unable to button sleeves because they are now too short and too tight.
Not worth wasting money on.

I was disappointed in the weight of the flannel. Seems cheap and thin as to compared to previous flannel Bean purchases. So, for the price, I'd say you may have increased your margins, but lost a "flannel" customer in the process.

This item is not a "large" as compared to previously owned shirts I have purchased from LLBean. The shirt is much larger than expected and is closer, in my opinion, to being an XXL. Had I not had it monogrammed I would have returned it. H Morgan

I have at least 20 other size large shirts, including one LL Beane Flannel shirt. The shirt that I received is tagged size Large but it must be at least X Large. I gave it to my son, who wears X Large

I purchased two if these flannels about 2 years ago and would wear them every chance I got. Decided to grow the collection this year and was so disappointed at the quality of the shirts I received in the mail this year. The plaid pattern looks like its printed on the shirt rather than the actual color of the threads being woven. I ended up returning both that I ordered :(
