I ordered this shirt for my husband and he loved it. A true wardrobe staple!! I also ordered it for myself (a female) in TALL so I could wear it with leggings. I am a size Large in misses so I ordered a men's MEDIUM TALL. The length is perfect to cover my rear and front in leggings. Looks great with your favorite skinny jeans/leggings, tall boots, and a chunky scarf. LOVE this item.

First of all: wow. This is the definition of flannel. It's ridiculously warm and incredibly comfortable. The traditional fit is a little roomy, though. I'm about 5'9", 175lbs, and the medium was pretty big. I didn't want to go through the hassle of exchanging it, so I washed it in hot water and dried it for about 45 minutes, and it shrunk quite a bit. So if you end up with a size that's a little roomy, try my approach. Overall, though, this flannel is amazing. I live in Memphis, but spend the majority of the fall/winter in Arkansas on the Little Red and White Rivers. This flannel is a perfect midlayer, or even by itself on warmer fall days.

Been buying these for my husband for several years now! So glad they added a new plaid color! Some are 5 years old and still look great...no fading! Great quality!

I bought this for my brother as a gift and it's absolutely beautiful.
I love the Prince Edward red color flannel.
It's soft and the colors are vibrant and rich.
Can't wait to see how he likes it!

I've been off of flannels for awhile , because usually the day you buy it is the best it will ever look. Not so with this shirt. Last year I was tempted by the scotch plaid in Grey Stewart. I'm glad I got it. It still looks good a year later. I'm happy that the weather is getting cooler so that I can dig it out of the closet.

I bought two of these, they are the only flannels shirts widely available in authentic Scottish tartan.

these are awesome. so soft, totally warm & comfy, and great-looking (FAR more vividly colorful than the website pictures). just a pleasure to own & wear.
good people of l.l. bean, please insure that these continue to be made Just as they're being made now - they're perfect. thanks.
for reference, i'm joe blow, the average man: 5' 10", and depending on which season of the year it is (fatter in the fall/winter), between 165 & 175 lbs, and the Large fits me perfectly after washing: sleeve cuffs hang around wrist area so as to provide complete coverage when reaching forward or up, and so as to not be in the way when working w/my hands, and hem hangs so as to be long enough to be tucked securely, or worn un-tucked without appearing to hang too low; a totally acceptable casual look. again, perfect.
now, a problem: there's a plaid pattern suddenly missing from this year's offerings. i can't for the life of me remember its name, but it's a fundamental, classic color scheme, as basic and necessary as the Prince Charles of Edward & Navy Tartan.
its base color is black, with (if i remember correctly), accents of red, yellow, and possibly green and/or blue. very specific, i know, but i'm sure that those concerned know which one i mean. it was there last year, but isn't here now. bean, Please bring back this classic. it's a moral obligation! bring 'em back for just one year - i'll stock up for a lifetime!
thanks.

You cannot beat this shirt in traditional fit! After all these years this quality flannel shirt simply gets better with age. I look forward to wearing it when winter finally arrives each year. You can work or play in it because it's rugged, well made, and looks good. The comfort is unmatched by all the others. It's worth the money to wear the best!

I really love this shirt its soft and cozy not too heavy.
I'm a small female and I order the small thinking it would require alterations on the body, but it fits just fine, maybe to long for my 5'2 frame.
I have spread the word

The Black Watch color is charming. This flannel is definitely my go to shirt in the fall and the winter. It pairs well with sweaters as well. Great quality and extremely comfortable

In true L.L. Bean fashion, this is the best flannel shirt I've seen. It's TRUE flannel, not a thicker cotton shirt with a plaid design like many "flannel" shirts today. This one will keep you warm on chilly nights. Washes and wears well. My husband wore his about once a week this past winter and it still looks great!

Straight out of the package, the fabric seemed too thin. However, after washing and drying, it seems like a normal flannel thickness. I like it so much, on cool days, I wear it more often than any other shirt.

I have three of this type of shirt, each of different color. In fact, I am wearing one right now. It is the best flannel shirt I have ever worn. Retains it's size and color after repeated washings. The only reason I don't have more is that they sold out of the other colors in my size. Don't waste your money in local big box stores on flannel shirts that shrink two sizes, buy these. And No, I don't work for Bean or the supplier, just retired and comfortable.

I have never owned an LL Bean flannel shirt before and bought this item on a whim because it was offered in our family's tartan pattern. I had no expectations for the shirt other than typical LL Bean quality, but the comfort of the shirt's material took me totally by surprise. It is very soft and so, so comfortable. The weight of the cloth is perfect too. It has been my favorite shirt during the cold winter months.

I was more than satisfied with this clean, soft, well pressed, beautiful colors, black watch flannel shirt.
In all truthfulness, the terrific shirt was better in real life to the touch and wear than the picture. As you know, there are no ll bean stores in California, so I have to choose by the pictures until I buy one or travel to buy one.

I have this in the Prince Charles of Edward color, and the color is beautiful: very rich and deep. Since people tend to forget to put their height and weight or what size they purchased, let me save someone a possible return. I'm 5'9" and 240 lbs, and the XL is right on. I will say, however, that compared to the Freeport Flannels I own, this one seems to accentuate the middle area for those of us with "guts" when tucked in to some khaki work slacks, but an XXL would be far too large for me. My best bet is to drop 5-10 pounds if I want to tuck it in and wear it to work. I don't have that issue with the Freeport Flannels, but this truly is a fine shirt. Oh, and if you follow the washing instructions, you'll get no shrinking.(At least that's been my experience so far with all LL Bean flannels I own.)
You can definitely tell that these are dyed yarns woven into a pattern as opposed to a print on the fabric. After some washing and drying I'm very impressed with the vivid colors and durability of the material. I come home and put this on nearly every day after work. I've even worn this one to bed it's so comfortable! I expect many years of wear from the Scotch Plaid flannel shirt. I teach at a little college and this is at home in the classroom tucked in or on a camping trip. Keep this color in stock!

I bought this shirt in the Grey Stewart pattern. The colors are very good, the fit is excellent, and the shirt needs hardly any ironing after washing.

I am 6 ft and 195lbs. The size medium fits well (I like things more fitted). I have owned a few of these shirts over the past few years. They do shrink a bit over time but not drastic enough to become too small. Very warm and also provides enough room to wear a base layer underneath. I wear mine un tucked and they look great. I like the button collar to keep it looking crisp wash after wash. These shirts are my essentials for fall and winter.

I have flannel shirts from other stores. This was my first from LL Bean. The quality and look is much nicer. It is not too thick that one can not wear it inside. I wear either medium or large in shirts typically. I chose medium and it fits great. I typically wear a size 40 jacket if that is any indication.

Portuguese flannel is the best flannel I've felt/worn. Grey Stewart is an awesome plaid design. I hope it won't be discontinued upon sell-out. It's my favorite shirt (feel and look).
BTW, I'm 5' 10" with a 40 chest. I wear a medium.

I have been buying LL Bean products for a long time. If you read some of the reviews about different items, some customers note a change in quality. I think that may be true for some items.
But this flannel shirt is excellent. Just like always. Sized right, nice quality material. I bought the Black Watch, and the colors are really great. Deep, dark colors, and the delineation is very sharp. It looks as good as a Pendleton wool shirt selling for three times the price. I have got to buy some of the other plaids available.

All I have to say is in the last little while, I have ordered three more of these shirtsapparently can't get enough! Beautiful tartans, luxuriously warm, well made and I have had very little shrinkage in the wash with these shirts. Just wish they would offer one in the L.L.Bean Signature tartan!

I would call this a classic winter casual shirt. Everything about it is comfortable: the pattern, style, fit, fabric. At first I thought the flannel was on the thin side but soft, and that was okay with me. Then after the first washing, the fabric seemed to bulk up and become thicker and softer still. No noticeable shrinkage in length. This is now one of my favorite winter shirts.

My dad bought this shirt for me after years of putting up with me "permanently borrowing" his LL Bean flannel, and I love having my own. I am a 5'10", size 10/12 woman, and the Medium regular fits me wonderfully (better than the women's version of this shirt, actually). The sleeves are the perfect length, and the Medium fits with just the right amount of bagginess in the chest and torso (I like wearing it over leggings or skinny jeans). The flannel is soft but thick - very warm and lays nicely without looking sloppy. Haven't washed it yet, but my dad is 6'8" and has never experienced shrinking with his versions of this shirt. (He would notice!) Very happy with the shirt, as it has sentimental value but still stands on its own in my wardrobe due to its high quality.
