Having been a dedicated Speedcross fan (up to version 4 anyway...) for trail running over the last 10+ years, I was excited when I spotted this shoe based upon that sort of technology and design but with a bit more sturdy support for hiking. Having now read more reviews since my experience, I do agree with those that say the shoe is not as narrow fit as the Speedcross which for a narrow footed person (hence why the original Speedcross V1-4 was so fab) this was a bit disappointing. However, having worn these shoes virtually straight out of the box on a walking trip even though there is more space in the toe box and they do look and feel a bit 'baggy' over that area, as I wear slightly thicker socks to walk this did not actually affect my impression of the shoe. I would rate it highly (4 or 5* 's) for fit from the foot bed, grip on the trails and it is highly waterproof which was great.
I am lucky that I do not get overly hot during exercise and I don't have hot or sweaty feet even in the summer. I rarely need to wash my shoes either running or walking and tend to quickly brush or wash off any mud and let them dry naturally and have never put shoes of any kind in a washing machine. Hence the reason these shoes have been such a disappointment is that they are singularly the MOST smelly shoes of any kind that I have EVER owned - and this happened after only about 2 weeks of wear!! I had to start leaving the shoes outside as the whole room smelled of them and it is very unpleasant. I note there are now a few reviews noting this too and I wish I had looked at those beforehand, although as I haven't experienced this before I don't know whether this would have put me off as I am such a Salomon fan!
I would REALLY like a response from your technical team to understand why this is happening to some of us with these shoes and not happening to all users? I have seen a very technical feedback from a scientist who seems to think you are using the wrong solvent or glue and if this is the case has this now been resolved? I note that you do write responses to some reviewers saying that you do feed back their comments to your technical guys - has this happened yet regarding this aspect?
As I waited until a trip to France in August 2021 to buy these shoes from one of your shops there, as I couldn't find them near me at a store in the UK to try, I cannot even take them back to the store to discuss this issue.
I don't think I have ever written a review before but I am SO disappointed that the shoe itself has ended up to be fine regarding the fit etc despite being a bit wider than I would have hoped but the smell is so horrid I am really put off using them after only about a month! That has proved a very expensive mistake and I would like to understand what your customer services can suggest that I do regarding this purchase?
And regarding the change in the fit to a wider fitting shoe with more space in the toe box than a lot of narrow footed people were expecting due to the shoe being based on the Speedcross, do you have a suggestion within your 2021/22 range of hiking and trail running shoes as to which models you would now suggest for a person with a narrower, slightly high arched foot?
I look forward to receiving some feedback in due course.

Very comfortable and supportive with plenty of room in the toe box. Cushioning and heel support also great. The only issue was the sides (outer) hit right at my ankles causing pain with each step. Maybe others will have better luck with this. I ordered a half size up and had some space for my toes. If you like a snug fit then they are probably true to size but may need to size up by half if you need more room

Loved this shoe, except that the sides of the collar, near where the laces attach, come up very high and rub against my ankles. They are stiff in this area, and it is not clear that they would break in. Rubbed my ankles raw. So disappointed, because besides that one flaw, I really loved this shoe. My feet are hard to fit, and these actually fit -- roomy toe box, not too roomy in heel. And so comfortable in a very supportive way. Wish I didn't have to return them!

I bought these to replace my old hiking boots and I tried several pairs on at REI. Immediately, I noticed these were the most comfortable of all the options I tried. I love that I don't have to lace them, and can adjust the tightness easily. They have an incredibly cushioned footbed, and I get compliments on them everywhere! They've been my go-to shoes all fall/winter, not just my hiking boots. Salomon, please make them in the Lunar rock/black combo!!

I bought these originally based on reviews and was not disappointed. They are my everyday shoes for everything from hiking to running to running errands. I have the light green and have not experienced the odor problem noted by others. I have about 600 miles of trails on them plus whatever when running errands etc...I find the arch is perfect, traction on rocky rough trails excellent, and support for my ever changing feet excellent. As I age I am finding my feet are changing and very happy I took a chance on these. I love them so much I just purchased another pair as well as the boot version for snowy conditions that are coming (hopefully).

The shoe seems to run large and wearing a size 5, I could not size down, so returned. Really dissappointed since there really are not other choices in this type of shoe that is waterproof and has the easy close.

I've been wearing mine for the last 5 months, 24/7, and they are not only one of the most comfortable shoe I've worn in many years, but they are perfect for so many reasons: they keep my feet just the right temperature - not too hot or too cold, and they hold up, at least they have so far, unlike the Ultra 3, which unfortunately already developed a small tear. I'm not too keen on the lacing system, but it's ok.

Had these for a few weeks now and wear them every day walking the dog. So far not really tested the waterproofing but they are a good fit for me, I'm a 6.5 usually but ordered these in a 7.

Wow, I didn't know it was possible to hike without foot pain until I found the cross hike. I have a narrow foot with high arches but enjoy a wide toe box for swelling during long hikes so I find the lacing system perfect for tailoring to those needs. Only one complaint, please make the cross hike mid in a 10.5!!!

I will be a loyal customer to Solomon for life after my experience. I found the shoes I wanted on their website, but they were out of stock. After contacting customer service I was IMMEDIATELY helped, and told when they will restock my size. Solomon is on top of their customer service, inventory, and after receiving my first pair, they are obviously on top of quality. I have no complaints, these shoes are perfect and I feel so secure on the trail, no matter the weather conditions or terrain.

I bought this for a hike up Mt LeConte after Hurricane Ida came through. Water was pouring off the mountain and many crossings were 4-6 inches deep to the crossing rocks. With Gators I will say my feet were dry nearly half the way up and short from being completely waterproof, they did eventually take on water but quickly water seemed to squeeze out and dried up quickly overnight. They are great on rocky, pebble and grabbed the trail when needed. I had to return for an exchange only because one of my shoes was missing a strap which I didn't know until I was on the Mt and needed to hook onto my bag. LOL Light and Comfy. Order 1/2-1 size smaller because they run big.

These shoes are awesome. I live in Colorado and do a lot of class 3/4/5 scrambling on ridge lines as well as running/hiking 14ers. I love long adventure days, but I am also not 100% always 'steady' on my feet.
These shoes are amazing. I feel WAY more confident in scree fields, climbing on technical terrain, and by default do great on maintained trails. I wear these when I run 14ers because I feel confident in their tread. Additionally, a few years ago I got a sesamoidectomy (foot surgery) and thus need good support and sturdy shoes.
I would size down half a size on your pair. I have a wide toe box and it fits well for my foot shape. After consistent use all summer, I still can't tell a difference in my tread.

These are the very best shoes I have ever owned. Covering miles of all sorts of ground, make sure you order down a size or half size. You want them to fit with no wiggle room especially for steep terrain.

I have bought Salomon GTX shoes sevreal times before but th elast paid seemed to be slightly narrower on the toes... which considering I have fairly narrow feet was odd but I just didn't get on with them. I opted for these as there were a couple of really good reviews and they just fit perfectly and were comfortable from day one and have stood the long walk test in rain too!

I loved these shoes so much that I wrote a letter to Salomon about them, because they HAVE to know how amazing they are. I am SUPER picky with my shoes. These have ample room in the toe box, are grippy AF on unstable surfaces, and they look SO good.
Dear Salomon: I have been a loyal lover of Salomon shoes since I tried on my first pair of XA PRO 3D GTX shoes in 2010. I have bought a new pair of those every year since, and have sprinkled in others; I just bought a pair of trail runners. I love them, they're awesome, but I was scrolling through Instagram or Facebook about a week after I bought my latest pair, and I saw the CROSS HIKE GORE-TEX. I am not an impulse shopper, and I generally don't buy from Facebook ads without doing a bunch of research, BUT I HAD TO HAVE THESE SHOES. I got them in time to take them to a week-long Scouts BSA Summer Camp, at Camp Geronimo near Payson, AZ. Dirt & gravel roads and trails, MAJOR up and down hills... this place was no land for sneakers. I do my fair amount of walking back home in Vegas, and hiking, but this place... I tripled my normal step count daily, and climbed the equivalent of 75 stories one day.
I cannot tell you HOW VERY MUCH I LOVE THESE SHOES. I wore them almost every single day (I switched them out with my trail runners one day to give them a rest), and I just can't stop gushing. I'm seriously supposed to be working right now, but I HAD to tell you how absolutely amazing these shoes are. And I LOVE the way they look. I can't stop thinking about them. So, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
Sincerely,

Overall, my wife’s first impression is extremely pleased with these shoes. She finds them a bit high at the ankles but loves them so much that she’s ready to break them in.

Wore these right out of the box for a 20 mile hike and they felt light as a feather. Since then, they've been on several long day hikes. No aches, no pains, no blisters. Great traction & stability on rocky downhill. Runs slightly big, I'm usually an 8.5 but I sized into an 8. My feet are a bit wide and these are a perfect fit for me. Roomy toe box is a plus. And as always, I'm a fan of the Quicklace system.
I've worn them on mountain hikes, waterfall hikes, up a via ferrata - they really are versatile and, so far, durable. My feet remained dry despite stomping in snow, streams and mud. They're so grippy that microspikes aren't necessary. The white soles get a bit dirty but other than that, pretty pleased with this shoe.
If I had to pack only one pair of shoes for a long trip filled with adventures, I would surely grab these.

I absolutely love these sneakers. I love the lace free shoe and it has great traction even on wet surfaces. I wore these urban hiking, on dirt trails, even on sand dunes and they passed all the tests. The fit is great as I have wide feet and it's hard finding comfy shoes, didn't even really need to break them in. I even hiked through some streams and puddles and my feet stayed dry. Highly recommend.
