Great duffel bag for airline travel! Meets overhead requirements, holds a pair of shoes, a laptop, and enough clothes for a week. Best part, you can wear it as a backpack freeing up both hands.

Fits two weeks of gear, for a woman, traveling to Europe. Roomy inside. Perfect for cube packing. Side pockets are great for toiletries and quick access through security.

Great bag that is easily compatible when not in use but holds plenty when needed. Fits easily in overhead bins, including on small planes. I like that the straps are buckles, not permanently attached.

Probably the best carry-on bag I've owned. Easily converts from a duffel to a backpack while remaining pretty comfortable. Great internal storage and seperate shoe compartment. Love that it has a dedicated laptop sleeve as well, great for traveling.

As a PhD student in Boston with a diverse schedule and multiple commuting methods, finding the perfect backpack is crucial. The North Face Recon XL Backpack steps up to the challenge, offering a robust solution for my busiest days.
Pros:
1. Capacity: The large compartments provide ample space for clothes, boxing equipment, and meals - perfect for long days at the lab or work.
2. Durability: Like all TNF products, it's built to last, withstanding the demands of daily use across various environments.
3. Versatility: Adapts well to heavy-duty needs, making it ideal for days packed with teaching, experiments, and gym sessions.
Cons:
1. Size for commuting: While great for storage, it can be unwieldy on bike, skateboard, or bus commutes.
2. Lack of water bottle compartment: A significant oversight for a bag of this caliber.
3. Internal organization: The large compartments necessitate the use of additional organizing bags.
For my varied lifestyle, I've developed a system using two other TNF bags:
1. The Voyager Daypack for lighter loads and more agile commutes.
2. The Basin 18 for ultra-light, quick trips.
To maximize efficiency, I use Eagle Creek gear organizers to easily transfer items between bags.
In conclusion, this nag is an excellent choice for those needing substantial storage space with some organization for smaller items. It's particularly well-suited for individuals with diverse needs who prioritize capacity. However, the lack of a water bottle compartment is a notable drawback.
This backpack may not be the ultimate all-in-one solution, but it excels in its niche. For users like myself who require varying levels of storage throughout the week, it serves as a crucial part of a well-rounded bag collection. Its robust construction and spacious design make it a standout choice for students, professionals, and anyone else who occasionally needs to carry a lot of gear.
While it might be overkill for everyday use for some, for those who need the space, it is a reliable and capacious companion that can handle whatever you throw at it - or in it.

I bought this for my son to travel to St Croix and use in replace of luggage. It was perfect. He was able to carry on plane. Had lots of space for everything. He used it as a backpack during the day for hiking. Would definitely recommend.

42L Base Camp Voyager is great. Quality materials and fits plenty. Recently used on 4 day trip to Austin. I usually take a carry-on and a backpack. Between both I can fit clothes, shoes, computer and personals. This duffel was able to fit it all without using two bags. It carried 2 pants, 5 shirts, personals, over the ear headphones and case plus1 pair of shoes and a pair of Ariat boots. Also added computer to computer slot. It will only handle an Ipad 11", maybe a 12.9 or a 13" computer. Definitely not a 15" which is fine since my 15" not good for travel anyway. Does not have slot for water bottle but that is fine since bag was big enough with out adding more weight. With only one bag and using as backpack it frees up hands to carry water bottle in one of my free hands. Confortable as a backpack but it is big enough that it could become heavy when filled up. I had no problem at airport carrying it but I can see where it would not be comfortable on longer walks. I am 6' and 245 and was comfortable with 20-30 walks.

I absolutely love the backpack straps on this gym bag while still having all the side handles. T\he ability to pack in into the small bag/pocket size is great for traveling. If there is one feature I would love to see added, it'd be a separate pocket large enough to hold my gym shoes without allowing dirt and mud access to the rest of the bag's contents. There is one pocket nearly large enough, but it won't fit my running sneakers.

Perfect size for both domestic and international travel. Fits a few days clothes, shoes, laptop, and easy access pockets for gear needed on the go. Compresses easily when not stuffed full, so usable on smaller domestic aircraft.
