Great style. Ordered 12.5 in Provision 5, and they were short overall as well as cramped width-wise at the entry to the toe box... kind of the opposite of what I expected an Altra to do. Note: I had similar experience with Escalante 2.5. I bumped up to 13 in these, and they felt great. Don't read too much into the Overall and Comfort scores since I haven't had a chance to really wear the Size 13s yet. I own 13 in Lone Peak, and those feel a little big.

Provision 5 has nice adjustable arch - 2 tabs rather than 1 as in other Altra.
I needed more cushion after just having foot surgery.

Been rotating this shoe with Torin 4.5 plush, and Torin 5 and inov8 Terreultra g270. Wanted something with a little lateral support and this shoe does it for me. Love the insert, upper, lacing pattern. Have done a handful of 8-14 milers at 9:00 pace. The tongue is difficult to get used to. It slides lateral and looks stupid all bunched up to the outside. If you lace the tongue in you have to use the top most eyelets which then put a lot of pressure on (my) anterior tibialis tendon. So it works all moved over but leaves medial side of ankle in padded which just feels odd. My vote is for the notched tongue of the Torin 4.5plush (and olympus4) on the whole line of shoes!! I love the notched thin tongue of those two shoes. Sadly the new Torin 5 also has a stupid tongue, but that is solvable by hacking it down to size with sissors. But this tongue wouldn't work at all it cut down, so I'm stuck. But otherwise the shoe is the most useful daily trainer I've used to date age 50 160#

I was only getting a little over two hundred miles on my Escalante 2.5s. I got 338 miles on my first pair of Provision 5s. It's all about the $$$$.

They fit & feel great - my only issue is with how fast the sole wears on the heel tread

Pros: The cushioning of this shoe is very comfortable!
I am a woman with slightly wide feet. I will have to purchase man's version of this shoe.
Cons:
1. Toe area of the shoe Should be bigger. I am a woman and I felt the toe area of the shoe is just about right width to slightly narrow than my toes. Men should typically have much wider feet than I do. They might feel the toe area is not wide enough for them.
2. I have experienced heel drop but this problem might not present for men, since their bone size is typically larger than mine.
3. WHY? NO size 7.5? I need a size 7.5 :(.

Primarily use for walking, first pair of Altra shoes. Recommended by friend. Believe I should have gone up a minimum of a half size. Toe box narrower than expected.

Laces are too short, if you try to use all the eyelets difficult to tie. Need to move the tongue slots lower on the tongue.

These shoes look great and are comfortable, but have one design flaw. The inside of the heel box has a very uncomfortable pad that digs into the foot.

The shoes fit true to size. I like the shoe but...the 2 pieces of padding at the heel are very uncomfortable. If those weren't there it would be a great shoe.

only 2 stars as a running shoe, 5 stars as a walking shoe. if i had wider feet i could run in these, but with narrow feet not so good. using as a walking shoe to recover from an ankle injury

I put in about 60 miles on this shoe and I finally gave it up. I started my altra journey with the provision 2 and loved it. Moved to the Escalante and have loved them. I currently have 3 pair for multiple uses. I thought I would go back to the new provisions and I just didn't dig the feel. Heel is too short and the guide rail leaves a weird run for me. I donated to the local high school so hopefully some kid loves them!!!

Day 2 ran a mile did ok. looking at the shoe at it doesn't look even... its tilted towards the outside of my heel and thats how I run and wear out my shoe. I would not buy this again because of this. while it fits well and feels good on my run just something aint right.

Provision 3.5 was the perfect shoe, I should have bought 10 pairs of those. This more recent version falls short. Not as comfortable or as easy to put on (design and materials). The shoe laces aren't long enough. I shouldn't have to buy laces just so I can tie the shoe (although this is the least significant of my issues with the shoes). Bring back the provision 3.5

These shoes are 1/2" shorter and 1/4" narrower than the same size of previous versions of the shoe. I'm considering getting a half size larger, but the wear areas on the bottom are very thin, particularly the heal area, which wears the fastest on my feet. I'm concerned these shoes will wear out quickly.

I have worn altras for years and have never experienced blisters. After the first run in these I now have a blister on the inside of my foot above the arch. This is due to the poor design on the inner side of the shoe where the form is brought up to the shoe laces. This unnecessary part of the shoe is rubbing the blister. The tongue of the shoe also falls off to the side after a long run. Other then these two flaws, it is a good shoe. But I'm still returning it.

The Provision had been my favorite shoe for years until the Provision 4 came along. It was too short and the tongue was terrible. Stupidly, I decided to try the Provision 5 and it was just as bad. You can tell the difference in my picture between my old Provision 3's that I love (pink laces) and the Provision 5's. I wore these to work in for years, buying a new pair every 6 to 8 months, but I am now on the search for new shoes.

The provision 3.5 were the best running shoes I've ever tried and wish I could have that shoe for the rest of my life. Just tried the Provision 4 and 5 and can't do the innovate arch. The midfoot is so much more narrow now compared to the 3.5. I'll be returning and may try the rivera or the torin now. Feel like I'm breaking up with an ex that's going a different direction.

Altra running needs to get rid of the Innovarch feature which is on the Provision 5s. The Provision 3.5s didn't have Innovarch and they were very good.
I just bought, tried out and then returned some Provision 5s. I knew the Provision 4s weren't good because of the innovarch feature. The innovarch feature had been improved on the Provision 5's, so I bought a pair. The innovarch feature on those made my feet hurt-and they still do!-,so the innovarch feature isn't good. At all. The laces were a little short, but the shape of each lace was good. There is a part on the Tounge of a sneaker which enables the laces to hold up the Tounge. It was so far up on the tounge that in order to use it,I would have had to lace the sneakers all the way to the top . I wasn't going to do that. I used to have some Paradigms which I laced up that high, and got tendonitis as a result.
I liked the pull tab on the heel of the sneaker. I liked the support, it was probably because of the Guide Rail feature. The colors were nice too.
I gave it one star, but only because that was the lowest rating I could give it.
