I had purchased several pairs of Challenger 5 which were PERFECT for my wide problem prone feet.
Challenger 6 are not as wide, the fabric doesn't seem to give, they don't feel as cushiony and the top of the toe area is pointier rather than more rounded which is less comfortable.

This brand was recommended by my orthopedic specialist. It's a very comfortable feel on my foot, very cushioned (which was the goal) but this style and the other two I tried both threw my ankles inward. I felt like I wanted some kind of a wedge on the inner part of the sole to keep my ankle straight. Hoka is not my brand.
I'd also recommend:

I loved my first pair of Hokas, the Challenger ATR5s. Secure fit with a roomy toe box and very supportive with great cushioning. I wore these around town and on hiking trails for over a year. I purchased the Challenger 6 version with hopes for more of the same, but these have been changed for the worse. The toe box is okay, but not as roomy, and these are not as cushioned. Hoka, when you have a good thing, please stick with it!

Ended up returning shoes. Toe box felt too narrow for me compared to my other Hoka shoes. Like the feel and fit of the Cliftons better.

I usually wear a 9.5 in tennis shoes, but these I had to reorder in a 9. Even then, I just couldn't be happy with them. Style-wise, they weren't nearly as bulky or awkward looking as most Hokas are. They also felt different on - they seemed to have a lower heel? It was not a bad feel, and they did seem to have a good amount of cushion and bounce. Unfortunately, I was looking for a shoe that would help with overpronation, and these just didn't do the trick. I have two old pairs of Mizuno Wave Inspire 15s that worked fine without additional inserts to correct my overpronation, but haven't found a shoe since that could do that, despite their claims. I even tried on tennis shoes at a specialty store in town, with inserts, and still couldn't get the right feel and support. I might've just kept these, even thought they weren't 100% effective (they really weren't terrible, just not 100%, more like 85%), because I can't seem to find anything else, but the dealbreaker with these was they cut into the front of my ankle and hurt just trying them on. They lace up very high on the foot which is what the issue is. My old sneakers lace a lot lower and don't touch the front of my ankle, so no strain on that tendon.

It's too tight even with a wide width.

I don't know if it's just the pair I got, but the left shoe's padding feels like I'm stepping on a pile of leaves. I don't know how else to describe it, but it's not comfortable and both the shoes squeak constantly and don't feel like there's enough support r even though they're supposed to be the max support type.

I've own many iterations of the Challenger for many years. I'm a trail runner, long distances, and these
have been my go to training shoe. This iteration is awful. One of the reasons I have come back to these over and over is the roomy toe box, but snug/good fitting heel, which is great for a long haul. The toes on these are so narrow, it's almost painful. Off to another brand. Sorry Hoka, don't forget your trail running roots and why you were so loved.

hokas how could you! you ruined my favorite shoe. I need a wide toe box and you narrowed it so the Challenger is now unwearable. why in the world would you ruin and great designed shoe?

I ordered wide width, but these are too tight. I have another style that was ordered in wide width, and they are perfect.

The Challenger 4 was fantastic; well cushioned and offered wiggle room for toes. Since the Challenger 4, the shoe has become narrower and less comfortable. I'll never understand why shoe companies remove good options for people needing a little more toe space--not a wide-- from the line-up. If Hoka wanted to gain more customers, keep the shoe that worked for people needing toe space and make a Challenger version for folks needing a narrower shoe. Instead, Hoka is forcing me to go back to the drawing board in finding a good shoe with a wider toe box. BTW: The market is flooded with shoes with a narrower toe box. Please keep something in the line that meets the need of those needing a roomier toe box.

Fit and size were great. These shoes are amazing to walk around on cement floors all day and go home with hardly any pain.

I have 2 pairs of Hoka's. I have a pair of Rincon 3 and just got the Challenger 6. They are a game changer for me. They are light and so comfortable. Later on, I will be buying more!

I live near a State Park and the Challenger is perfect for the terrain. I don't have to worry about rocks and tree roots tripping me.

I usually don't buy any shoes online. I heard great opinions about Hoka and decided to give it a try. It is my first pair of Hoka and believe me, not the last one! These are the most comfortable shoes ever! And I bought them without trying them before. I don't think I'll go back to any other gym shoes brand ever. These felt great from the first moment I put them on. I couldn't believe how comfortable they are. I took them on a hiking trip, still as brand new shoes. Very sturdy, very comfortable, my feet felt great after 6 hours of hiking! Great for walking, great for hiking, great for every day!

Ordered these shoes to use as a light trail shoe and overall walking shoe during travel, knowing that I would be encountering a few rougher wet trails that required some scrambling over slippery rocks and uneven surfaces. I also used the shoes for walks in the city. Great pair of shoes! The wide width was perfect for my feet, great stability, and wore them for a 5 mile hike right out of the box.
