For me, the Asics GEL-Nimbus 23 is the best running shoe I've ever had. I'm an old fat man and I use my elliptical trainer 3 miles every day. I keep getting older, but I'm gradually getting less fat and I need great, comfortable running shoes. I have three main criteria: forefoot cushioning, toe-box roominess, and overall fit. In all three areas, the Nimbus 23s are perfect (for me). I alternate among Saucony Triumph 17s, Triumph 18s, and Nimbus 23s. All three are great shoes, but the Nimbus 23s are perfect. I've gone 51 miles in 17 sessions using the Nimbus 23s (so far) and I'm now certain about their quality. The Saucony Triumphs are definitely plusher and softer, but they are also warmer, wobblier, and they have a slight rubbery unpleasantness compared with the Nimbus 23s. The Triumph 17s and 18s are excellent running shoes and, at first, I preferred them to the Nimbus 23s. But after breaking in the Nimbus 23s, the superior fit and breathability, the more stable platform and the better (firmer) forefoot cushioning became more pronounced and more obvious.

Perfect fit, great support, and cushion

This is my third pair of ASICS GEL-Nimbus shoes (progressive numbers since 19). Color choices vary somewhat year-to-year along with the fabric of the uppers. This pair is all black including the soles with the faintest of silver accents imprinted on the mesh fabric. I've tended to go with the quieter colors of blacks, grays, and deeper reds. But that's a personal style preference. Comfort? Impeccable. ASICS has enough room in the toe box without getting loose in the heel. The cushioning is progressive across the foot in both walking and running. I'm an older runner, prone to plantar fasciitis. So, I appreciate the GEL-Nimbus's combination of cushioning and support. Since switching to ASICS Gel Nimbus I have not had a bout of plantar fasciitis. I typically average six to seven miles a day but I have nine to ten miles on high activity days. More walking than running to accommodate my Brittany Spaniel and my age. I tend to wear the outer edge of the heel and have relatively neutral pronation, foot roll or articulation, and push-off. The GEL-Nimbus 23s are an exceptionally comfortable daily runner and walker. I wear size 11D and am 6'1" 190 lbs. Recommended without reservation. For comparison, other brands that "fit" me include Saucony and New Balance. Nike is normally too tight in the toe box if the heel fits.
