This being my first new arc jacket I was surprised by the great build quality. We've only had a couple colder day since I got this but the Atom AR but on those day I've been quite toasty.

I bought an Atom AR about 6 years ago that is wearing out so I decided to get a replacement. This version is somewhat heavier, which I'm worried will make it too warm for mid-layer when ski touring, but I wanted to try. Also, I miss the old, more feminine color choices. I loved my old purple jacket!

This jacket will be replacing my atom SV from winter 2011/2012. I choose to go up a size from a L to an XL as a 6'3" 240 male. This jacket is a good fit albeit a lot looser than my SV. That probably has to do with the 30lbs I gained. The face fabric has quit a bit of crunch to it compared to my older jacket. The cut around the chest and the length in the sleeves is perfect. All told this is a good evolution to the best racist ever made by man.

I wear my partner's Atom AR enough so I tried my own. Super comfy & I love the fleece pockets, but the zipper didn't stay put on my larger chest if I didn't have it zipped all the way. It also wasn't as flattering as I'd hoped, but then again it's made to be insulating! I ended up returning for a Thorium AR & Atom LT separately, which I love in their own ways. The colour Paradox is gorgeous though (please make an LT in this colour!)

i got the atom AR in neptune from the arc outlet. not sure what year that came out in.
i'm 6 feet; 155 lbs; 38R in suit jacket; 32-33 in dress shirt sleeve, build like a twig basically
i tried the small and medium. i liked the fit of small but the torso was a bit short on me so i kept the medium. with the small, i could probably wear a thin sweater underneath
i think i run relatively warm (at home in the winter, i keep thermostat at 55F and wear sweatpants and kyanite). i was excited to try the Atom AR out because other reviewers said they are warm in temps as cold as 0F when just wearing the atom AR and a t-shirt underneath. in my experience, i get cold in temps 20-30F wearing just the atom AR and a t-shirt underneath. maybe my older model lost some insulation

Simply put, the Atom AR Hoody is rad. It has replaced several other coats to become my grab and go jacket for most occasions. It's great for those early mornings in the parking lot at your local ski hill, or throwing on for a short hike, or even running to the grocery store. It's a cozy choice for many different occasions.

I bought this a about a month ago and have been very happy - wearing it every day for woods walks, street walks and snowshoe expeditions. It has very quickly become my GO TO winter wear. As a single layer or over a sweater or primaloft type vest or jacket it is comfortable, light weight and excellent insulation from low teens F to even mid 50s.
3 issues that make it a 4 star and not the best!
1) Only 2 pockets. Good outside pockets for hands while walking but throw in a pair of gloves and that's it. Would be so easy and result is such a huge leap in practicality to have an inside square pouch. Doesn't need to compromise the insulation or add bulk - just an extra place to carry something and have it be easily accessible.
2) The sleeve cuffs are elastic but just barely. Unless you are wearing gauntlet gloves over the sleeves you will struggle mightily to get these sleeves over your gloves. Even thin cotton gloves are defeated by these cuffs. At the least, add more elastic. Way better still, add an open cuff with a velcro flap to be completely adjustable.
3) Not a deal breaker but the zipper tab is pitifully small. Do you wear gloves? Pull that zipper up or down with your gloves off. (Then try to get both gloves back under your cuffs - LOL)
This is a slim fit jacket - but looks good, allows room for 1 thin layer and feels instantly warm like putting it on a shirt, right out of the dryer- reflects body heat beautifully. Good for snowshoeing and other hiking but the slim fit would not make this skiwear or anything requiring lots of upper body action. Maybe go bigger.
Wish 1-3 was better. I'd consider trading in immediately for those upgrades - at the least for 1-2.
Still - an excellent product over all, my quibbling notwithstanding.

I am a longtime Arc'teryx user and have had both the LEAF and standard versions of this jacket and it has been my go to jacket for fall, winter and spring.
I only have one suggestion that I would like to see added, the zipper would be nicer as a locking style so that it can't open itself when moving around.
Otherwise a great quality product as expected from Arc'teryx.

This jacket is lightweight and very warm but doesn't fit under my Beta AR shell (both are size Large). The Atom is too long and also looser at the bottom than the Beta so it's always hanging out. If anything, the insulated layer should be shorter, not longer! I'm pretty disappointed but not sure what to do/if any other Arcteryx insulated jacket will work any better...
I also feel like there is a big size difference between the M and the L....I could barely zip the medium up (i'm almost always a Medium) but am swimming the the Large.

Good looking jacket, comfortable and really warm for its weight. I got it for fall and starting winter since I did not expect it to perform for the cold Quebec winters but I'll simply layer it with my arc'teryx fleece.

A super comfortable warm jacket. Used on cold windy days on the mountains in Ireland. Will take a gentle rain for a period but will quickly soak through. Fantastic for day to day. A large is a perfect fit 189cm, and 86kg.
Negatives are
1) the zip does ride down but I squeezed it v gently and it seems to have tightened it enough.
2) The back of the jacket has become balled and very worn looking-I use a small backpack for work and maybe this has caused the issue. The coat is just 12 months old and I am surprised it has worn so quickly

My long time go-to jackets for the whole of winter.
TONS of insulation, super puffy. With the hood and hem adjustments you can seal yourself into a cloud of warmth, and even in wet weather you feel very well protected (prolonged rainfall will soak through and strip away that warmth, however).
Used around the huts and tent when ski-touring through Dovre in Norway, hiking in Troms and the Alps in winter, and as a daily jacket through the last couple harsh winters in the UK and Scotland.
Layers over a fleece easily, but depending on your other shell size it can feel a bit tight (especially under the arms and across the stomach). Doesn't pack down anywhere as small as down so beware if you need the bag space, I would often strap it to the outside of my pack when not in use as it's quite lumpy.
Only downside is if the zip isn't all the way up, it will slide when moving with any urgency.
Recently replaced with a Proton AR as I wanted a more hard-wearing outer fabric and longer hem length - that's not a detriment to the Atom at all really as the Atom is a more all-round piece, and the Proton is suited more to climbing and activities involving a harness.

6'2" 175lbs/ Size large
Great light weight puffy, comfortable wearing with just a t shirt down to 40F.
Where this jacket really shines is its fabric and fit of the jacket.
The fabric is extremely durable, I have owned it for two years and there is not a single patch on it. Use when Mountaineering, climbing, bushwacking has proven that it is holds up. The fit of the jacket is also outstanding. More room in the elbows allow climbers forearms to not feel squeezed when fully bent. stretch cuffs keep all the warmth in and fit under layers well. Enough room to fit whatever baselayers and fleeces I use.
Negatives:
The hood is pretty useless. with only once cinch in the back it does not have very much adjustment. The collar is also fairly low for a puffy. The cinch only tightens the sides, pulling the hood back away from your face, which is the opposite of what is desired.
I also feel that the insulation has broken down fairly significantly. It feels thinner is those wear areas of the shoulders and back area side by side comparison to a new one.

I'm one of those guys that researches and analyzes ad nauseam before buying something if it's anything I care about. This is my first purchase from Arc'teryx and it was a hard one to make because of the price, and also because it seems like there are other great sounding jackets on offer such as the Proton AR, which admittedly I'm still curious about.
As for this jacket, it meets the high expectations I had going in based on what I've heard about the company and the high reputation of the Atom line. It's so light that it's hard to believe it's going to keep you warm, but it does the job. I own a nice down jacket, and I can confidently say this jacket's synthetic insulation is a great alternative, and I'm surprised to say that.
Other things I like about this jacket: the pockets are heavenly, the hood is really nice and is effective if you're feeling chilly and need some added warmth in a pinch, and the jacket frankly looks really good from a fashion standpoint.
As far as things I'm less excited about: this jacket is very difficult to size for me. I'm 5'9" and 140 pounds, so you'd think I could just get the small and move on, but I was surprised to find the length of the jacket itself and the sleeves to be too short at size small, so I was forced to size up to a medium where the fit on the torso isn't as good as the small, so it just seems confusing from a design standpoint as my arms and torso aren't unusually long. Just letting smaller framed men know this could be an issue for you. I'm also not sure about the long term durability with this jacket. I've only owned it for a couple months so far, so we'll just have to see how it plays out going forward.
Overall, this is a nice jacket, and I'll be looking to add more from this company as time goes on.

I bought this jacket to replace an Atom LT because I run cold all the time and wanted something a little bit warmer than the LT. This jacket delivers in added warmth without feeling too bulky. I have worn in down to about 40 degrees F and stayed comfortable with a thin long-sleeved shirt underneath. I have yet to wear it in colder weather. My favorite part about this jacket is the soft cuffs on the sleeves. I have not found another jacket out there with cuffs as comfortable and this matters to me. The reason for the 4 star rating instead of 5 stars is that the hand warmer pockets are too tiny for pretty much anything. I have very small hands and cannot fit them comfortably in these pockets. Any type of cell phone will fall out if not zipped. This jacket would be perfect if the pockets were bigger. I gave my old Atom LT to my daughter and now regret it. I will be purchasing another one soon as it was my favorite jacket of all time. The Atom AR is a close second to the LT.

It was the only insulated jacket I used during my trip to Mont Blanc and It was more than enought. I kept me warm. It's one of the best insulated jackets I have vern owned. It works perfectly with my Alpha SV jacket.

Great three season jacket. Room for layers although fit is difficult. 6 feet tall, 160 pounds and bought medium, just a bit too small in arms and length, large fits well in arms and length but excess room in chest even with layers. Still good value for cost.

This is a fantastic Jacket from a premium brand. Badly let down by the zip, which doesn't catch. If you walk with your hands in your pockets the zip comes down and the jacket opens up. Really stunned no-one in product design let this through.

I got this jacket to keep me warm when I stand outside for 3-6 hours. It's a little bulky compared to what I was imagining. I like it regardless except I want more and bigger pockets. My phone and hands barely fit in the hand pockets and the internal pocket isn't very deep. Otherwise, it's great.

I needed a synthetic mid-layer to replace a competing brand I am unhappy with. I broke it in with a 6 mile hike at 34F. It did the job but got too hot after 3 miles. I'll be looking for a fleece mid-layer also to switch into. I wore a non gore-tex shell but went without it for half my hike and a light baselayer.
Im very disappointed with the lack of any kind of pants at stores which just cater to fashion trends. I need real technical gear. All of my gear stays in my back pack in my car because I hike almost every day, training for mountaineering. I don't intend to walk around town dressed like I came from Everest.

I love this jacket, but wish I had taken the time to try on the men's version. I have a women's medium and the side pockets are impractically small. My ungloved hand barely fits inside (I have normal sized hands) and if I'm wearing a light fleece glove or have my phone in the pocket then 1/4 of my hand sticks out. The men's version has larger pockets and I really wish women's versions had equivalent features.
Apart from that I love the jacket. It's great for camping in cool and possibly wet weather. It was plenty warm enough to climb in Indian Creek in November with and lately it's been my go to for slacklining in freezing temps.
