I have these pants now for almost four months and used them for skiing tours, cross country skiing, hiking and (ice)climbing. When on the move their warm enough by themselves 'till minus 10 degress celsius. If the temperature falls below that, it's to time put on the long underwear. At the same time these pants do not feel to hot, when hiking at 15 degress plus celsius. It hasn't been warmer than that. So I don't know when they'll actually will be to warm. So the temperature range is quite impressive. They are very wind resitant, but not wind closed. That helps to prevent you from overheating and sweating. The material seems really tough. They don't have a scar yet, even though I brush rock and hard ice with them quite a bit. On top of that they're impressivly water resistant. I stayed completly dry in them on a two hour long descent in a constant rain and hail storm. At the end, the outer material show a couple of wet spots, but none of it soaked through. I highly recommend them for fall, winter and cold spring days.

Comfortable enough to wear on a walk without overheating. Wicks away light and heavy rain, dries quickly after being submerged in water. Temperature regulation is good enough to support a wide temperature range while still providing protection from moderate wind. Durability seems to be solid, with no detectable burrs or marks from bushwhacking through thorn bushes and deadfall. I'm very impressed with the low end versatility of the pant - at the low end of technical activities - it's more adept to above freezing hiking and lounging around than I would expect for a pant designed for more hostile environments. Going forward I plan to use these with a thin to moderate base layer & packed shell for complete lower body protection. The moisture regulation of the material is reliable enough that I don't anticipate needing another primary layer on mild days or cold days when very active. Sustained rain or snow probably should be met with a w/b shell, but in the majority of situations ranging from fall through spring these should do quite well.

The fabric, design, and quality of these pants are amazing! But these pants have the same problem I have with all the other gamma pants. The bottom of the pant legs are so baggy. I want a much more tapered design to a pair of 'climbing' pants. I would prefer the look and there is also practical reasons for having less loose and baggy pant legs. Like ripping less on crampons, and prevent snow from getting in your boots when postholing. I like the fit of the pants on my hip, butt, and thighs but not the end of the legs. To baggy. I think the pants are designed to be that baggy so somebody can put the pants over their ski boots but not everybody wears chunky ski boots. I think there should be separate pants for just climbing, and pants that are for ski/climbing adventures. Another improvement I think would make these pants even better would be 'side vent zippers' on the sides of the pant legs. The material of these pants are fairly thick and warm, which is a great thing, but on long approaches with changing conditions and effort levels varying, it would help to dump heat very fast and prevent from sweating a lot. It would also layer and vent well with hard shell pants worn over these. I could unzip my alpha pants down and the mx pants and dump a lot of built up heat on a hard approach while still walking. I think the gamma lightweight and regular gamma pants do not need side vent zippers because the fabrics are light enough, but these mx pants would definitely benefit from them.

I love the pants except for the fit. I have average legs and the are very tight through the butt and thighs and very baggy around the calves. I would really like if they were looser fitting on the top and a more tapered fit through the calf area. It would improve the comfort and movement. And the belt should be re designed a little. It undoes itself a lot when I climb. The hand pockets could be deeper also.

The MX is a Good cold weather ice climbing pant if you like to wear your pants under your boot's integral gaiter, or wear gaiters, don't plan on skiing, and don't plan on wearing a heavyweight base-layer. The medium short was sold out so I bought the Gamma Guide but the MX became available before I even received the Guides so I bought the MX as well; here are some thoughts if you're trying to decide between the two. The Gamma Guide is a better all around pant for general alpine use because it has a reinforced instep and zipper at the cuff to accommodate ski boots. The MX is narrow at the cuff. The Gamma guide is also cheaper and more versatile because it has a regular fit so you can layer under it more easily and it's material is more burly. However the Guide is meant to wear over the boot, so it is a different style and fit. Both pants are new to me so I am looking forward to experimenting with wearing the Guide over my boots. I usually wear my softshell under my boot's gaiter and find this bests prevents snagging my pants on my crampons which always seems to happen to me over enough time. With the MX I tried to wear my powerstretch fleece heavy weight baselayer under it, and found it somewhat tight and uncomfortable- with the Guide I did not have this problem. It's hard to tell if the Guide is as warm with a heavyweight baselayer as the MX is with a lightweight baselayer. I am guessing with a medium weight baselayer the MX will be the warmest option for really cold days. If it's really cold I highly recommend getting a 3/4 length synthetic puffy pant with full side zips to put on over your soft-shell. The MX lacks vents like some other heavyweight soft-shells by other brands. It also lacks a tether in the cargo pockets like the Guide, so the MX is less ideal for avalanche safety. However the MX has a better belt than the Guide, which depends on a small snap to stay closed. Overall I think the Guide is probably a better pant overall, but I am going to keep both and see which one I gravitate to over time. Both the MX and Guide are high quality soft-shell Alpine Climbing pants.

Overall warm comfortable pants, but I am in between sizes. The Med fits but the thighs are too tight and the waist is a little snug so I went with a Large. The waist is way too big and the length is also a bit to long, but the thighs fit just right. The quality seem good.

I have been waiting for my size to be in stock for two years! Was it worth the wait? Yes. These pants are exactly what I was searching for. They are great as is or to use as a mid layer when doing outdoor activities. The only reason they get four stars is not bc the product. it is the company. I wish they would have more of the SS (small/short) sizes in stock on a regular basis.

I have the Gamma LT and this one is quite a bit thicker but still stretchy and has a bit higher waist. I like all the zip pockets for phone etc. I wear these XC skiing on a sub 40* day, dog walking or hiking. Though they're pretty warm and find myself going for the LT version more often. The sinch cuff is nice so I can roll them up a couple inches. I usually wear a small and the 6 works well.

Nice pant to wear on their own but the sizing is small around the thighs compared to other pants in the 2021 gamma line, disappointing fit and not consistent. I have both the Gamma LT in size small and the AR in size 30 and the MX fits much smaller around the thighs but are wider at the bottom, also the MX fabric is not as stretchy (thicker) and the leg length is shorter that the other Gamma pants. They are ok to wear without long johns but the narrow thighs and the fleecy interior makes it hard to layer underneath. The MX will suffice on their own for cool weather but when it is cold thick long johns with the Gamma AR will be warmer, more versatile and more comfortable.

I have not yet worn these in the snow but here are a few observations "out of the box": - Delivery times with Arc'teryx are the best in the business. It takes a few days on average to receive a package. - The fly is a bit small on these pants. It's ok for taking off and putting on your pants but you're not going to use the fly to take a leak without having to undo your pants. Could be a bit of a hassle if you have stuff buckled around your waste. Also, if pants are sometimes to tight for you in this region (you know what I mean) you may want to try these on before you buy. - Definitely more of a boot cut than the Gamma LT. Good for accommodating winter boots.

regular length is way too long! second day out I poked a hole in them. I've got a bunch of fabric folds just waiting to grab something. the waist and belt are nice, the pockets are well sized, the DWR held up well to above freezing temperatures climbing up a route plastered with wet snow.

Over all well designed pants. I've had mine for over a year and the material is holding up well. Due to the insulation I only wear these in the colder months Nov- Mar. The ankle gators are convient but the tighteners tend to break. I do recommend.

Not as warm as the original Gamma MX - lacks crampon patches, fast Velcro pocket. General outer and backed inner is much more light duty. Cut is narrow on thigh so not as mobile then baggy on ankle which makes it hard to place your feet climbing. Gamma AR with a 3/4 merino under it works better.

I've been wearing these pants for a month or so and, for the most part, am impressed. I've worn them hiking in temps down to the low 20's and have been comfortably warm for the most part. The other nice feature is that they are not too warm to wear indoors either and so I give them an A for versatility. Now for the con(s)....the zipper. Wow, I believe another reviewer mentioned how awkward it is to use. It's hard to believe that any pant, let alone one at this price point, would make it to production. Simply put, maybe it's not long enough or improperly placed but it just doesn't work efficiently! Lastly, I love the built in belt; however, would like to see belt loops added as well as they're just plain functional for carrying a knife etc. Sizing - 36" waist, I have the XL tall which is a bit loose but still comfortable. Fix the fly/zipper and add some belt loops and then I'll happily buy more! Also, add two (2) cargo pockets to other Arc'teryx pants that only have one. Why only one???

There are a lot of great things about these pants. I have been using the men's version for backcountry skiing for years (I'm probably on my 3rd pair) but they are too long and generally too big. The women's Gamma MX pants finally have enough pockets for me, 2 side and 2 thigh, so I bought them. The material is really nice, sheds snow readily and seems very sturdy. I like the shock cord cuff which helps cinch the cuff to your boot. I am a little bummed they took away the crampon patch, which is also helpful for not cutting the pants on ski edges. The waist is a bit too big, but the internal belt pretty much fixes this problem. The biggest thing is that they fit me really weird. I am 5'3" and got the size 12 regular. I would have gotten the 29 inch but they were out and I wanted them soon. What it feels like is that the knee articulation is too low for my leg shape, ie the knee of the pant is lower than where my knees actually are. So my knees hit the front of the pants in the thigh area and bind on my thighs. I kind of wish I had realize how uncomfortable this was going to be before I cut the tags and used them for winter hiking because I should have returned them and waited for the 29 to restock. I suspect the knee articulation would have been in a better place for my legs on a petite size pants. So what I'd say is if they fit comfortably these are awesome pants. I'd still recommend to a friend even though they don't work very well for my body shape because if they fit you, then you're golden!

I wore these once (yes once) and the stitiching above the knee 'came out' (un-picked from the seam). From the other reviews, I think I must have gotten a 'Friday Afternoon' pair, it's a bit dissapointing as I took them on one of the easiest hikes in the UK (Malverns) and didn't abraid them at all. I have since fixed them with a bit of superglue and a very hot needle, but this is less than I expect from an Arc'teryx product. Also, if you have big thighs, then I reccomend going up a waist-size, I find these tight when you're wearing a base-layer (and no, I'm not a fatty). Since the above, I've beaten them up a lot and they held out superbly, better than any other single piece of gear I own. so it's hard to complain (well, much more than I have already). I think that Arc'teryx set such a high bar for themselves it's difficult not to find fault.

I love my Gamma Pant but not this Gamma MX pant. Why do you want to make it so tight around the crotch and thigh? These are outdoor pants instead of fashion jeans, so mobility should be important.

I've wanted a set of these for years after hearing they were some of the best ice climbing pants around. I've been using an older gamma MX jacket for years for all things winter, but these pants did not live up to the hype or anywhere the same quality to my MX jacket. I suspect the pants have been revised, but not for the better. I like them for casual winter use and light winter sports, but that's about it. My main issues come from the weather resistance and the boot cut. These pants were soaked from a simple 3 pitch ice climb after being nearly brand new. My 4 year old gamma MX jacket that's been used, abused, and washed several times has 10x the water and weather resistance than this new pair of pants. On top of that, the pants don't synch down tight enough in the calves to be safe to wear crampons or to keep snow out of the boots. I hope I can find an older used set of Gamma MX pants of the last design.

In terms of warmth and comfort. I can't fault these pants. The pockets are also numerous, deep and thoughtfully placed. In other words, they bare all the marks you expect from Arct'teryx, apart from one important factor, the durability. I have worn my Gamma MX Pant three times. Each time, I have somehow managed to tear another hole around the heels. I haven't even had the chance to use them in any extravagant situations, just simple Forrest hikes. Whilst this is not a situation I would wear and expect chinos or other street pants to preform in, I do buy Arc'teryx tor it's hardInes's and durability. Despite having no issues with any of my other Arctery'x garments, I cannot in good faith recommend the Gamma MX Pant.

These are way overpriced for the poor design. No hip pocket (and no gator hook like the other Gamma pants). I don't understand why Arcteryx didn't take more care in the design. They aren't really very warm either. They aren't worth the money and don't have much value. Basically these are over-hyped sweat pants.

I bought this at the end of the year to hike during the winter. Good fit and comfortable but on my first real hike I looked down and noticed a giant hole near the cuff. No idea how it got there but I just feel the material is different than my 2 year old gamma jacket.

I ordered this online, because I have two older pairs and I was super happy with them. I have an older pair of Gamma MX. It has a fluffy fabric on the inside and tough smooth surface on the outside so that wind does not get through it. The fabric is thick. I used it mostly for cross country skiing, winter hiking and in a cold weather. I took the new pair out immediately, and I was hugely disappointed. I was cold in them. So, cold, that I had to return home and put a base layer under them. On a closer inspection, I found out that the fabric is considerably thinner, not as fluffy inside as the old pants, and the outer fabric is very porous allowing wind to get through. Unfortunately, I can not return them. Also, the pockets are different. The old Gamma MX had the cargo pockets secured with velcro. New pants have flimsy zippers. Velcro never breaks down. Zippers can rip tomorrow. And they are very difficult to repair. The pants are looking awesome. They fit great. But this is not why I ordered them. Would I recommend it to others? It depends what they are looking for in the pants. I am disappointed. They feel like completely different pants. I am still shopping for winter pants. But not at Arcteryx' store/website.

I wore these pants twice and they ripped at the stitching. I wouldn't not consider what I was doing strenuous work. I question if these pants are really a durable as Arcteryx says they are. Currently, I have reached out to see if they will be fixed or replaced as this is completely unacceptable especially for the amount Arcteryx charges you. Hopefully Arcteryx does the right thing. However knowing what I know now stay away.
