I have a 10+ year old Atom that I absolutely loved. I decided it was time for a new one that didn't have as many holes (oops). The new jacket is warm and clearly has better zippers and cuffs. However, the face fabric isn't quite as soft and the fit is much bigger around the stomach. This makes the jacket less comfortable and bunch funny. I tried on a medium after purchasing but found it was too tight around the shoulders and a bit short. I wish Arc'teryx would go back to their older sizing that was designed for a more athletic build.

I own older models of this jacket. Early 2014ish. Excellent quality. The new designs are horrible. Quality is poor, sizing is off. My new jacket, bought in 2020, is beginning to unravel and unthread. It seems like the company is no longer focused on true quality outdoor products.

I've had this jacket a few weeks and have worn it nearly everyday. I believe I was mistaken at how rugged I could trust the jacket to be though. A small ember caught my sleeve last weekend and burned a decent sized hole in the sleeve. I took it the next day to the re-bird center hoping to find a good solution but was given a black nylon piece to tape over the hole. I wish I had a better option to patch it! Not loving the look of it now.

It is so frustrating that the women's version of this has the awful fleece side panels, while the men's version does not. Why have an insulated jacket if 1/3 of it isn't insulated?!? I also find the zipper comes up too high and is uncomfortable under my chin. I wouldn't wear it done up unless it was so cold that I needed to bury my face in it, in which case I would be wearing a warmer jacket. Please make it the same as the men's. I like the style better than the Proton (and there is a much better colour selection) but I dislike the side panels so much that I'm not sure if I will keep it.

Last night listening to the Backpacking Lite podcast they were discussing the benefits of 'pull-over' insulation layers (lightweight, more packable, users do not add/remove as frequently as a wind shell so benefit of a full-zip are fewer, and the possibility of a 'kangaroo' front pocket for added hand-to-hand warmth). Additionally, with the addition of Proton to the lineup which features breathable face/outer fabrics for high-output activities, the side stretch panels on the Atom LT -touted as a means of 'dumping excess heat'- really only serve to provide less insulation where it is most needed on an insulation layer.

I just got this jacket and I was very excited to have it in time for spring backcountry touring. The fit and insulation along with the color is perfect EXCEPT the zipper. I ordered a size up concerning that may usual size would be too form fitting and the jacket fits perfectly, even slightly loose to allow for layers. When a move or bend over the zipper slides down and the jacket unzippers, it doesn't stay up! For the cost and reputation I expect way more.. I'm disappointed and don't know what to do because I love the jacket otherwise.

Really disappointed with this. Looks the part, very thin, but adds virtually no warmth. May as well be wearing a pertex windblocker.

I just purchased this jacket in Mesmer and as others have noted the product is no where near the bright purple/pink shown. It would be great if arc-teryx had bright color options in this jacket, maybe something to consider for next season. If you look at their photos for the SL jacket the Mesmer color is more accurate in those photos. Arc'teryx really needs to pull the Mesmer photos and repost with a more accurate photo (other wise this is false advertisement) The jacket itself is fine but not a good as the old fit from a few years back (now I size down). Overall the color is still nice, just purple and more muted, so I'll keep it. With that said, I do think a lot of people will be sending the Mesmer color back once the see how off the color is.

I bought this jacket and wore it for 4 months and really liked. I washed it once in a front load washer as recommended and it came out with two spots where the fabric pulled and made a pucker. For the cost of this jacket I would think it would hold up better.

My seatbelt has nearly eaten through the rip stop after only 6 months of owning this jacket. Killer jacket overall, fragile for its price point

I have been using the Atom LT for over 3 years as a three-season jacket. As the insulation on the shoulders have become significantly compacted due to backpack-carrying, I decided to get a new one this past month. I bought the same size, only to discover the sleeves in the current model are much narrower, while the bodice has become much longer. I felt I was trying on pyjamas instead of a mid-layer jacket! In addition, the new stiff upper lip (no pun intended!) of the hood caused more cold air to seep in when walking in high winds. Last but not least, the embroidered logo is rather stiff and digged into my skin, which I find rather irritating. So I returned it.

Further to a previous glowing review about the warmth and weight, I would advise that unless you can be assured of the jacket not coming into contact with any surface, do not purchase. I literally just brushed against a brick wall and the fabric has torn. I'm staggered how fragile it is. Totally disappointed with the resilience of this item at this price point.

I bought this jacket last winter to replace my Cerium LT. The good: very good fit all round - shoulders, chest, hem line doesn't move when I stretch my arms up, just like my Cerium LT and the main reason I went again for an Arc'teryx jacket. Outer material is more robust compared to Cerium, which is reassuring as I mostly wear the jacket as an outer layer. The bad: The most annoying problem is collar height - when fully zipped up, it neither covers my chin nor stays comfortably under it always rubbing under my jaw. For this alone I cannot rate the jacket any better than average, because the annoyance is there every time I put it on. Higher collar would either go over the chin or could be folded down under it. Cerium has a lower collar which doesn't cause this issue. The second issue is that when it rains, the seam where the hood joins the jacket is not sealed. I know this is not supposed to be a waterproof jacket, but of this seam was sealed, it would add to the appeal of the jacket as an outer layer. Cerium LT soaked right through though, so Atom is definitely an improvement in the wet. Lastly, breathability along the sides comes at an expense of wind proofing and the Atom is not suitable as an outer layer in anything stronger than a cold breeze. For this reason I would say Cerium LT could manage colder weather and windier weather, even though the zipper on the Cerium LT doesn't have a flap under it and lets in a fair amount of cold im direct wind.

Love everything about this jacket, there's a reason this is probably the most popular piece of Arc' gear out there. Mine is the last generation model, but it looks like the new one has the same hood, which is the part I don't like. Maybe it's just me, because I don't have hair, but I can't hear my surroundings when I have the hood on. Whatever the material is on the inside is super loud whenever you're moving around making the hood basically useless if you ever want to hear things around you. That's my only complaint. Stoked to see they made the jacket slightly longer in the new version as well, this would have been my other suggestion.

Bought this jacket after wanting one for ages and reading a lot of positive reviews. After receiving I found myself really looking forward to wearing it for all occasions from watching my son play football to showery walks on holidays. Cooler weather, rain showers, not a problem, this jacket takes it all in it's stride. Disappointed when after a 3km stroll wearing a pack the face fabric has visible signs of wear. Upsetting having only owned the jacket a few months. Still a great jacket overall, face fabric a bit delicate so don't wear it with a rucksack or let anything catch the fabric.

I so wanted this jacket to work as the construction and quality are amazing but after trying both medium and large the sleeves were still too short. I have both a kyanite and a delta hoodie size medium and the sleeve length is perfect. Not sure why this jacket is different.

Fit is super nice and feels like good quality, but I immediately experienced the too-easy-to-unzip problem noted below. It wasn't so bad that I'd expect it to unzip on its own, but even a light tug was enough to unzip it completely if it wasn't zipped up to the tippy top. The fit through the body and shoulders was good. Sleeves are a little too long for a petite person, but that's usually the case for me. I am 5'2", 115lb, and the XS fit perfect with room for another layer underneath (maybe just one though). It is super lightweight and feels moderately warm, probably good for chilly but not cold weather unless you typically run warm. If you are active at ALL, don't buy this in a light color. I got the Zephyr and it stained SO easily, immediately showing any amount oil and dirt. I washed it with free & clear detergent and the stains stayed. Ended up returning it, but I'll try again with a darker color. Overall I like this jacket, but it's probably not worth the price unless you genuinely need super-light gear. If you're not a big wall climber, get something cheaper.

My first Arc'teryx jacket. Love the hood, plenty warm. A bit too warm for ski touring here in the Rockies when above -8C. Great to have in your pack when stopping for tea. The shell is a bit light for serious touring/exploring where tree branches come into play.

I bought this jacket in January. I had read reviews on the jacket and thought it would be warm enough to wear with a long sleeved shirt on a cold winter day. It wasn't enough. I ended up needing a large coat to stay warm. However, a plus side to this product is that it serves as a great base layer while I have been skiing this season! I am typically a medium but order a large and I am glad I did because it didn't fit super tight and I have room to move in this product.

I must have a weird body shape. 5'9, 133 lbs, lean build. I usually lean towards a size small (in the Patera Parka, I take a small). I had initially tried a small 2018 Atom LT and that fit great in the arms (arm movement was phenomenal) but was obnoxiously short in torso length so I was excited to try the redesign, knowing it had fixed that issue. With the redesign, the new length is great; however the shoulders have become more restricted. I'm not sure if the pits were raised or the shoulder width changed but something is definitely different. I could not bend my arm without feeling a pull from the shoulder-to-elbow area. I also noticed the arms were a bit shorter on me. There was a significant pull where my watch is, as the cuff fell exactly there (in the 2018 model, this was not an issue, as the cuff fell over my watch). Knowing I'm on the taller side and at times go in between sizes, I decided to size up and tried on a medium. Again, great torso length and this time the shoulder-pull aspect and arm length issues were fixed. However, the medium was just FLOATING over my torso and appeared baggy. I could probably layer 2 thick fleece under it and still have room, which defeats my needs with this. I also noticed a lack of warmth thanks to the excess largeness around my torso, instead of it having a closer fit to seal in the warmth. As a whole, I wanted to love the new LT but I just don't think Atoms are for me. The old fit was too short and the new fit is definitely more boxy, so unfortunately just does not work with my body type. I am happy to report the medium size Proton FL fits perfect - and because it's the Proton, I have better ventilation with it. So if anyone else is stuck having issue with the new Atom fit, try the Proton if its use still matches your criteria!

I had always seen Arc'teryx as a brand for thirty somethings without kids or rich people in their fifties. After seeing their website I thought "huh, this looks pretty legit. I'll give it a go". I was not impressed. It's pretty warm and lightweight! But the wind still comes through a bit and it's pretty fragile. This is a good jacket for more urban environments rather than wild.
