Overall great jacket, my second McMurdo. My first McMurdo is perfectly usable many years later and has held up well; I just grew out of it. My new McMurdo seems equally fine, if not just a little bit lighter and less insulated, but although I have not yet used it in extremely cold weather, it looks up to the task anyway. My new one needs drawstrings around the hood, waist and hem to make it better. The hood is useless without it because it just flops down and when it's up it obscures all vision except straight ahead. The main zipper is problematic on both jackets; it's black hard to see especially on my dark blue jacket. When it's super cold outside you want to zip up immediately, not struggle to find and use it. Sleeve lengths are good and the jacket length is just right, except it's difficult to shovel snow when fully zippered. It's not a perfect jacket, but none are and all things considered is reasonably priced compared to more "fashionable" fad labels out there. It does the job where it's supposed to and is durable and waterproof. I found the sizing to be right on both jackets. I would recommend it based on my long experience with the jacket.

I chose to purchase this coat per a recommendation from a TNF associate at my local store for activity in 20 and below temperature. I went to Norway a few weeks ago, and though it wasn't as cold as I was expecting, the jacket did keep me warm in the 30 degree climate. The multitude of pockets were great and helpful a variety of times for storage and for keeping my hands warm. The waterproof design was a plus when I experienced heavy snowfall. I did notice some flaws with the parka.. When it was windy, the hood did let in the wind/air, as someone else had noted the snap-on points of the hood. The hood also was constantly blown off my head in strong wind, and it was hard to keep it on without physically keeping it in place with my hands.

Strong, warm and comfy, but a bit too puffy and not super stylish

Unlike some of the other comments, I thought the zipper was of good quality. However, I had a hard time zipping and unzipping the parka, because the zipper ends at an awkward length.
Other than that, the jacket was excellent.

Good for cold weather, keeps you warm, but feels bulky and big in the mid section and the hood feels small.

The jacket is amazing. The price quality value is great. I would expect pockets on the inside, sadly there are none..
Another cons, the sleeves are wide Wich is great, I would expect a layer of something to block things from outside to come in , (I mean like snow). The scratch doesn't feel good enough.

The coat is nice and all.
But the feathers don't seem to stay in sometimes.

I live in NYC and needed something that I could wear to the office and on the weekends. Since I grew up in a warm climate I find the cold here especially tough. This jacket however has made me a fan of winter since it keeps me very warm! So far I've worn it in 20deg weather w/ high winds, but I'm confident it will hold up to 5deg.
I'm 6'2 at 185lbs. The sizes run a little big so medium fits me well

Very warm for cold weather. The face mask built into the hood works very well. The jacket takes some effort to zip up and is slightly big for the size. Great coat for the price

I moved to Chicago from San Francisco where it hasn't snowed in over 80 years and doesn't get below 45 degrees. Enter Chicago, where it was below freezing with snow on Halloween and got into the teens in early November. I couldn't wait any longer to get a good coat. I did extensive research reading tons of blogs and reviews and they all pointed to this coat. You don't need to spend $800 on other brands which will not be named (you know the one). My wife has one and this coat is just as good. The blogs I read also said this coat is just as good. I've been wearing it almost every day since I bought it and it's great. Very lightweight and I don't even need to wear a sweater under to stay warm in subfreezing temps. The only thing I would note is I feel like it runs a little large. I'm a small guy - 5'8" very slim build, but even the small was too big. I ordered the extra small online and I think it fits great. So, go to the store and try one on if you can. My only complaint would be the hood fits a little snug, but it might just be because it's an extra small - apparently everything but my head is extra small, haha.
So, if you want a waterproof coat that works in subfreezing temps, buy this one. Period.

I needed a coat during the Chicago winter as I walk to the train and to the office. I got this just in time for the early snow and bitter cold already hitting us in November. I would not have made it if I didn't have such a warm coat.
I will say it was unclear from the images whether the coat would be bulky or more form fitting since some pictures show it one way and others the other way. I wish it was a little less bulky, but when you are out shoveling snow or walking in the snow and wind it doesn't matter. All that matters is if it keeps me warm and dry. It does its job. I hope to have it for years to come.

Runs a little big, I'm exchanging for a Large - however, it is so warm, so comfortable and I totally am happy w/ my purchase. I would recommend it to anyone looking for that heavy winter jacket to protect you from all the elements, simply cozy, strong, warm and awesome. It does run big, so go a size down unless you like that.

It's a nice jacket but buy one size below I bought a medium and its was to big for bad luck there was no more small , be advised that you may find the same product in another web site, just make sure to read police of return , I prefer a store with good reputation like north face

Good jacket. Keeps me warm. As others have noted the zipper is a bit of a problem but not so serious that it is a deal breaker. Coat is still and heavy.

I got this for my 78yr old dad, and he loves it. However, the zipper is very hard for him to zipper up. I'm not sure if it's the same for every coat but it is disappointing. He has to put it on like a sweatshirt. For the money, you would think it would work better. Overall, it's a nice coat.

I like this coat a lot. You don't have to layer too much. Super warm -- walking around for an hour-plus in 6 degree weather and I've actually gotten hot. However, I wish the hood were larger. You cant really wear a hat under it, unless it's a tight, beanie-style hat that fits snugly to your head. Otherwise with a regular hat on it pulls at your head a bit. The other complaint is that a large is huge while a medium is a little a tight/narrow; could be my body type (5'9", 175). But overall a good, warm coat. Gets the job done.

Pockets on the outer chest area aren't well placed for your hands, and aren't as warm as other jackets. But the jacket itself is very warm and comfortable and has enough pockets.
