The first edition of the Torrents are my go-to for all trails, all terrains, technical trails to smooth trails and all distances up to 50 Mile race. I was very excited to try the Torrent 2 and when they arrived they felt great. However on my first trail run with them going down hill was extremely painful as my toes kept getting jammed into the toe box and each time my foot struck the ground it felt like my forward movement was being stopped. After the run I checked the sole of the Torrent 2 against the sole of the original Torrents and sure enough, they changed the direction of the heel tread to be facing backwards instead of forward like the first edition (see picture). As a result going down hill when my heels striked the ground the shoe was ultimately stopping my smooth forward movement and jolting my toes into the toe box. I'm returning these right away and buying more of the original Torrents in case they decide not to make the original sole/heel version again.

I like the look of the shoes but there wasn’t enough cushion. My arthritic big toe ached every time I took a step. This hasn’t happened in my other styles of Hoka One One shoes.

I've had the first version of the Torrent for a while and I've liked the shoe very much (far better than my Clifton 7s, which I rarely wear) so when looking for another pair of shoes decided to give these a try. I love them. Soft under foot, very grippy and I like the upper far better than the first Torrent. I've decided that I'm a Torrent person. I'm not even a trail runner but I do a lot of walking off pavement and these are perfect, I'm able to get a good grip in snowy/muddy ground and that's what I love.

I use this shoe for hiking on our local dirt path, up and down hills, at least 4x per week. I get a new pair of Torrent 2s every fall so I have them ready for spring. They're not water/snow proof so I change to a different shoe during the fall/winter season. This shoe is so dependable and I sincerely hope Hoka never stops making it!

I got two pairs of shoes for Christmas from my folks these and a pair of Clark boots. These are very fashionable and comfortable. This is my third pair of hokas. I love the color and that these are trail shoes. They provide excellent support. I did have to size down half a size.

My go-tos when I am running on rough trails. They are comfortable to wear. The footbed gives my foot a lot of support. I have a mild to flat foot and I am able to wear the shoes all day without leg or foot pain.

I wore my first Torrents into the ground, and was intrigued by this updated version. I've had them for a week and put about 60 miles on them on a variety of terrain. I'm a 6 in all other running shoes, but a 5.5 in Hokas. The heel felt great - completely locked in with no slippage (or hot spots). The front felt a little tight on the first run, but loosened on the second run, and have fit fine since. Traction worked well on everything I put them through, including mud and wet slabs. I transitioned to Hoka from years of pretty minimal shoes after a couple injuries, and like this model (and the first version) because I can get the support and cushion but still feel what I'm running on. Looking forward to putting these through the ringer this summer.
One slight annoyance unrelated to the shoe itself is that Hoka charges tax on these in MA even though the state doesn't have sales tax on shoes or clothing. I was told in the little chatbox that they tax on online mail orders, though I don't understand why. I'm unlikely to order directly from the company in the future for this reason - it adds up with how frequently I have to buy new pairs.

Bought these to replace my old Teva Arrowwood 2 leather trail shoes. The Tevas have been great, but they lack any real cushion which, if I could ever find it in another shoe, I would go for. I thought with the Hoka Torrent 2s, and Hoka's rep for maximal cushion, these would be that shoe. I just got a pair of the Bondi 6s, and THEY are phenomenal and live up to the hype.
These Torrents, however, are not working for me. I think that Hoka, by listing as "responsive" actually means that you WILL feel plenty of trail feedback. Unfortunately, that feedback is very strong in this shoe (for me), too strong. I got done with a normal trail hike this morning, not even running, and now my knees hurt which they never did even with the old Tevas. They are beautiful shoes, but I think I'm going to trade them in for the Stinson ATR 5s as they look as if they will provide more of the real cushion I need.
About the Torrent fit: The medium width is plenty roomy (I have a wide forefoot) and they feel stable and light. The lugs are super sticky, as promised, so you will not slide around even on slick rock surfaces.
Bottom line: If you want a light-weight, sticky, thinner trail shoe that will give you LOTS of feedback, this might work for you.

I was able to put the shoes on and wear them all day the first day. I have bunion issues and need a shoe that does not cramp that joint. They are very comfortable. Plus at 10.5 size they look reasonably small. They don't look like I'm wearing a shoe box.

Feels great, and I prefer these to the thicker soled Challenger style. I'm not used to so much padding under the heel. Most of all I love that these don't have a white sole. What a win for wearing them in mud, on the baseball field, etc.

I'm now a Hoka believer! These fit great and are perfect for my daily walks and hikes. I have knee and foot issues, and this shoe offers good stability and cushioning. I've had them for several months now and they seem to be holding up incredibly well. Will definitely replace with another pair of Hokas when the time comes.

This brand is the best. I am on my feet 10-12 h out of the day. This shoes is so comfortable and the colors combos are cute and stylish. Very versatile with scrubs. I had to downsize 1/2 size as footbed is wide.

The shoes are nice and comfortable. I haven’t broken them in yet with a run but they’re beautiful to look at as well. Great Choice.

These are by far the most comfortable and supportive shoes for walking that I have ever owned. I am in my 60's and need both support as well as styling as I walk 4+mile a day. Hoka One One you rock!

I sized up a 1/2 size as I do with all running shoes and they fit perfectly. No break in needed- nice cushioned tongue (not all HOKAs have a padded tongue). I used these for hiking trails in Maine and Arkansas- with excellent tread for keeping slipping on rocks and roots at a minimum. Added my own custom insole for plantar fasciitis.

Very comfortable. Love them.
Now HOKA needs to make a shoe with a composite toe. I'd have happy feet all the time!!

My brother-in-law suggested HOKA shoes for me to help return to my daily morning walks. I had been experiencing pain at the arch of my right foot, and the Torrent 2 was the perfect solution! I am convinced they are well worth the investment.

These are great! My first pair of Hoka's, & I love them. Just started trail running after years of being an avid hiker, & these are a great start. I think eventually I'd like to get a pair with a bit more cushion, but these have been great for the rocky terrain of SW Colorado. Lightweight & super comfy, I don't want to take them off!

I purchased this shoe as a i between a tennis shoe and a true hiker, to wear when we traveled to Zion and Arches NationalPark and it was amazing! Comfortable and great on all the trails. Supported my feet, great traction and it was stylish!
