I mainly have used these shoes as my everyday shoe. Like my last pair of Altra Lone Peaks, these shoes fit my feet perfectly in the arch and width of my foot. Also like my Lone Peaks, these seem to fit a half size too small. I would have exchanged them for a larger size, but 14 was as big as this model of shoe came in. Kind of uncomfortable when I wear thicker socks, but I don't really have a choice. The build quality of this shoe is great. No annoying squeaks when I step, like my Lone Peaks. Overall I would recommend these shoes. Just buy a half size bigger, if you can.

I loved the Olympus 4 shoes. They are nice fitting, great cushion and ideal for all kinds of trail running. I would have given a 5 star rating but because of the shoe uppers which are not as strong and start tearing up around 250 miles I am giving it a 4 star rating. They cushion felt good until 700 miles on them and sole still had good traction but the uppers could not hold up. I am on to my 2nd pair of Olympus 4 shoes and the uppers have tears on them again. A tear on both the shoes on the side of the little toe. If Altra can have better quality shoe upper, then I would keep on buying Olympus for the rest of my life :)

I've put some miles on these and I love them! I'd be giving them 5 stars if the insoles didn't slide forward on a 14 mile run. It wasn't the worst, they feel great, hopefully it was just the terrain?

I'm a thru hiker on the Appalachian Trail. Before owning these shoes, I had only worn boots. I was comfortably in my Men's size 11 Oboz for 800 miles before switching to a size 11 Olympus 4, only to find it was way too big. I haven't tried to return it yet since I would have nothing to wear if I needed to wait for a return to process and I'm not ready to jump through hoops yet. The reason I'm only giving 4 stars here is because, in every missized shoe I've ever owned, the shoe would rattle or chafe but it wouldn't hurt just from wearing it. In the Olympus 4, there's weird stitching on the inside of the shoes at the front, and going downhill your toes will get all kinds of messed up against the stitching like you couldn't believe.

I am 6'3" and 240 pounds. I am an avid backpacker and purchased this shoe hoping to find more support/ cushioning after wearing Lone Peaks for years. I have found the Olympus to exceed my expectations! An excellent, well constructed shoe offering comfort and stability.

This is my fourth pair of Altra shoes. I've liked them all, but the Olympus has a flaw. They don't lace up and tie as firmly and snug as they should. I have to stop after the first half mile or so of my walk and tighten them again. It's just rather difficult to ever get them tight enough.

A solid trail shoe. Enjoy the traction. However, it is a full size too big though... I've worn size 12 for every shoe for as long as I can recall. But, foot was sliding around, especially on the downhills. Have to figure it out because want to avoid wearing an extra pair of socks and more vaseline.

To Whom this May Concern, I hope whoever is reading this is living a life full of running and adventuring.I have been running in Altra shoes for quite a few years now and plan to continue to do so. I love and fully believe in the science behind Altra's shoes and will continue to promote them to everyone in my circles. There is a problem though, we need to make the shoes stronger. As someone who runs a minimum of 3 days a week (I usually bike the other 3 days the week) I need a shoe that will last longer then a couple of months. I started running in the Altra Olympus 4 on October 29, 2020. (see pictures) Before that time I had previously run in Lone Peak 3.0, Lone Peak 4.0 RSM, Lone Peak 4.5, and Time 2. I had been a little reluctant to go with the Olympus model because I felt they may be a little too much shoe/sole for me, but when I wore them I immediately fell in love. My problem began when on March 11, 2021, only about 4.5 months later, the uppers began to rip (see pictures). Looking through my Strava I estimate this occurring at mileage 325. On March 21, 2021, 29 miles of running on the shoes later, I took it upon myself to see if there was a repair that I could do to remedy the situation. Spending about an hour of my time I sewed the rips that occurred on the interior of both shoes (the first shoe I used red thread thinking that would match well, but then the second shoe I felt fishing line might be a stronger material to use) as well as one small rip on the outer toe. It is now April 23, 2021, just about only 6 months from first wearing these shoes and 452.5 miles into these shoes (98.5 miles post repair) and they are ripping again. (see pictures). Please take my advice and make the uppers stronger!

I am on my 3rd pair. I hike about 25 miles a week. They are not as cushy as previous models but very comfortable. After about 500 miles these shoes are toast. Not great for muddy rocky trails. The bottoms shred on rocky trails.

I walk arpund 12 miles a day and run around 20 miles a week. This is my third pair because I don't ever have to think about whether my footware is adequate when I go to start my day. I only wish the top material was a little tougher. I seem to tear it up. Luckily only around the same rate I ware off the bottoms.

You can't beat this shoe's combination of snug fit and trail protection. The only issue is that it feels little bulky and you don't exactly feel nimble. I went back to this shoe after I tried other Altras because I discovered its teh best you can buy. Like everything its a tradeoff - its hard to provide good protection for really rough terrain and, at the same time, be nimble.

great fit and comfort on bottom. there is a seam where the tongue is sewn to the shoe that caused extreme discomfort. Had to return shoes because of that.

I am on my second pair after putting 500 miles on my last. They are not as pillowy as previous versions but still comfortable. I have several pairs. The black ones I wear just for running errands etc. I get tons of compliments. My grey ones I hike on muddy trails. They are pretty trashed after 500 miles. My socks get muddy from the dirt passing through the fabric. The get shredded with rocky trails.

I use them for trail running in southeast Alaska. They were comfortable from the time I put them in. The toe box could be a bit taller, as my toes rub a bit but they have lots of cushion in the heel which is really nice. I'd really like a second pair for the gym but at $170.00 the price point is a bit high.

My Altra Olympus 3.5's were perfect. The new 4.0 model gets only four stars rather than five because the material used on the top of the shoe above the forefoot and toes is not as flexible and fails to "give" like the former material. I am pleased the toe and front space is preserved however and the cushion of the Olympus is its best feature. The grip inherent in the Vibram sole leads the pack when it comes to wet rocks and such. Altra would benefit from all their models using Vibram.

First, though these shoes have their flaws, they might be my favorite pair I've owned yet because of how sturdy and comfortable they are with distance. My previous shoes were Torins which were much less supportive and usually, I would get neuroma around 7 miles in that I would have to ignore throughout the rest of my run. That doesn't happen with these, I've yet to see my feet as the obstacle limiting me from finishing my runs anymore. I have had to make a slight augmentation to my setup to make this shoe work and my review would probably be a 1 without this change. My long toes caught where the fabric meets the armored sole in this shoe and over time it's led to brusing and internal bleeding under my toenail. I purchased some silicone toe sleeve which I put on my Halluxes and Big Toes and that has caused that issue to go away. These things are excellent in all weather conditions, I've run them through mud and rain and they felt extremely sturdy and gripped very well. I think I'll continue to buy them but I do hope they make adjustments other users have mentioned as well as something to accommodate anyone also dealing with this big toe issue.

Urban settings and beyond for me. Lots of dog waling, hiking, and running. Amazing cushion and great grip on slippery trails. My only complaint is the tongue is just a bit too thin when you really cinch them down.

Now in the Olympus after years in the Superior (3 pair) and Lone Peak (2 pair) and very happy. The high stack is fantastic and lasts 50% longer than the other models, justifying the higher cost. My only issue is the sloppy heel. Altra, you changed the Superior (too much foot feel) and Lone Peak (awful foot geometry (the last)) and ruined them for me, don't do anything major to the Olympus!

First off I'm not a shoe scientist. Im an Ultrarunner who goes by fit and feel of a shoe after I have work them for at least 20 miles. I have owned hundreds of different shoes and all of the brands that are available for the sport. I used to hate Altras and hate Zero Drop shoes. I bought these and some Timp's one day to shake things up a bit as I sometimes do. I was shocked at how well these shoes did. Thy were comfortable and performed well on relatively technical trails. The fit was figured out after a while as I had to find the sweet spot for lacing. Ill say this, for regular trail running and fire road running I love these shoes. The feel and fit wonderfully but for more technical and really rocky trails I prefer the more snug fit of the Timps. Great shoe but I think the Timp pound for pound is better. The olympus 4 in black however looks way sharp and I love a "maximal" shoe that doesnt look maximal.

This is an amazing shoe with superior cushion, this shoe can cover many different terrains including pavement excellent. It's not the greatest in extremely muddy terrains but is very good for everything in between.
