Pros:
1.The best grip on dry and rain soaked rocks.
2.Very good ground contact for single run short distances < 40mile.
3. Open mesh is very airy but that comes with a cost for trail dirt debris
Failures:
1. The lace pouch does not hold the folded up lace, lace pops out periodically. Remove the Salomon rubber pull tab on Quickace I cut mine off why have it like the Ultra/Pro...
2. Sole shape needs rework to have again like the Ultra/Pro a trapezoid sole shape reduces hard object to foot bed contact when foot contact is hard object pinched
SensePro4 rated for shorter distances training I would find it hard to run 50-100 miles Ultras in these.

This was my all-time favourite shoe for technical terrain, until an eyelet tore at 500km. It looks like another couple of eyelets won't last too much longer also.
I've been told by my LRS where i purchased them that they can't be mended so what would have been a 5-star review is now a 3.
The uppers have had a tough life on our local granite mountain but are still doing well enough, and outsoles prob have another 300-500km in them (awesome) but i won't push them on technical terrain anymore and will relegate them to lawn mowing duties.

Purchased these back in April and already looking for new shoes. The bottoms are completely worn out (the rubber nubs that create traction for the shoe) and the mesh material on the tops of the shoe did not last. The top part of the shoe that wraps around the heel also caused hot spots if I wore no show socks.
I was hopeful these would hold up for at least ~1 year but unfortunately they did not. If you are an active person I would not recommend these shoes.

I have been loving my Speedcross 5s and thought I'd try the Salomon Sense 4/Pro for races as they are a lighter shoe. Am racing the Pikes Peak Marathon in 3 weeks and train there regularly. Even though they seemed to fit well, on the technical terrain my foot would slide side-to-side. On descents, they slid forward which does not happen in my Speedcross 5 shoes. Also the laces became a bit loose on descents and forced me to stop to tighten them a couple of times. Not something I want for the race. And not an issue with the Speedcross. I'll wear them on non technical terrain that does not have a steep descent, but am sad that they won't be my race shoe which is why I bought them.

I just got the shoes. They look good and feel good, with everything as described except I can see right through the synthetic upper mesh. I think I was misled into thinking that the shoe itself is water repellent, which is one of the main reasons I bought it. It is really only the synthetic material itself that is water repellent. I expect my socks and feet would be wet even in a light drizzle.

A nice shoe, light and rugged with good traction and good puncture protection. But the quicklace system is a problem. Picture tells the story (mine are sense pro 3, now discontinued but the same lace system as SP4). The laces cut through the second inside eyelet on the left shoe within a month or so. Later, the same eyelet broke through on the right shoe. No simple non-destructive way to repair. Otherwise, the soles and fabric have held up well considering the mileage, nothing torn or worn through. The breakages really affect the fit. It's too bad Salomon doesn't make half sizes beyond US12.5. These fit my long narrow feet pretty well, but I had to go up a half size to US14, so they're loose and puckery in the toe. I had to lace them tightly to take out the slop, which probably added to the tendency for the laces to cut through the eyelets.

I love the fit of these shoes. They fit my narrow feet and have excellent ventilation, but the laces are starting to fray after about three months of use. I'm not putting in tons of miles on these and it is pretty disappointing the laces are wearing out before the rest of the shoe.

I've ran 360 km in these and the lace cut through one of the webbing loops, or whatever they are called, this morning. Checked the other ones and they are in a poor shape, too. Great fit, for my feet anyway, but can't recommend due to poor durability issues. Also makes me wonder about the rest of my big Salomon shoes fleet.

I have used Altra and Hoka One in trail running shoes. That's why I bought an 8 Salomon sense pro model. However, they did not fit me well, they are too big. Now I'm trying to sell them as I am not in USA is to difficult to get a refund.

I have run in Sense Pro 3's for over 2 years and have between 1 and 2 thousand miles logged in that previous generation model. I purchased these updated Sense Pro 4's recently and have logged a few training runs in them and noticed immediately they ride and fit differently in the exact same size as the previous generation.
I wore size 11 in the Sense Pro 3 and that was a near perfect fit. I ordered size 11 again in these and am slightly disappointed that the fit seems to have gone larger. I wish I would have ordered a 1/2 size smaller. I think Salomon reconfigured the sizing with this new generation to fit a bit longer than the last gen.
It's not the end of the world but I do think the handling in fast rocky/technical terrain is a bit sloppy with the larger fit. Not completely detrimental but its not the crisp and snug handling I'm used to with the better fit I experienced with the Sense Pro 3.
Also I believe this generation is MORE SENSITIVE than the Sense Pro 3. There is a substantial amount of ground sensitivity with these shoes which may be a problem for some people. I do like a sensitive shoe so I can feel the terrain I am running but I think Salomon went a bit overboard by lessening the sensitivity with this update. Rocks can at times almost be painful when running on highly technical trails. Your feet get pretty beat up from the rocks after a few miles.
This shoe is very lightweight. It feels like a racing shoe. I do find this greatly beneficial.
Overall I think Salomon has regressed with this update. I wish they would have stuck with sizing from previous generations and maybe kept the sensitivity more akin to the Sense Pro 3's of pre-2020. I am moving to a different shoe.

I only got 20 miles out of my pair before the outer lugs were worn to nothing. Their warranty people explained that was because I supinate. True, BUT i have been running and supinating since 1977, including 5 years of 70 miles per week as a varsity XC runner in HS and College, and have never had a sole wear out like that. I currently have HOKA SPEEDGOATS, the have 300 miles on them and their VIBRAM soles are still solid. Nice build and design, feels like a track shoe for trails which I love, but the materials are garbage and Salomon does not stand behind their products.

Hallo!
