Just received these shoes, and I'm more than disappointed. I ordered these shoes based on the recommendation of Salomon (I sent them some descriptions of the trails I typically go on etc. and they made a couple of suggestions). I really wanted to like these shoes, but due to what I consider a major design flaw, I will be returning them promptly. The location of the base anchor point for the laces results in awkward pressure against the outer "knuckles" of my large toes. Just walking less than 100 ft around caused hot spots to form in those spots. I tried with different socks, etc. to no avail. The only way to avoid this issue was to loosen the laces to unusable levels. To be clear, the shoes fit exceptionally well and seem quite comfortable; but the location of the lace anchor point does not seem to be well thought out. Perhaps I just have awkwardly shaped feet, but this lace design will never work for me.

These are beautiful. I wanted to try the lace system but did not care for it at all.

I am a long distance hiker and the XA 3D Pro in Wide have been my go to shoe for years and thousands of miles. The V8 model is lighter than the previous model, a gaiter trap is easier to install on the smoother rear, all good. However, this new version is causing a problem on the top of my foot that I have never experienced before. I felt every darn step along the Tahoe Rim Trail this summer. The only way to manage this was to tie down the shoe only ver loosely. That works for on-trail, but not for off-trail walking, which is really the strength of the shoe. A week ago I used an old pair of the previous version and had no problem, so it's not my feet. Maybe the weight reduction has been achieved by changing the tongue? I don't know, but I will have to say goodbye to Salomon XA Pro 3D, reluctantly as size 14, non-GTX, Wide shoes are not exactly plentiful on the market. Here's hoping for a reversal in V9!

I have been wearing this shoe in its previous models since they came out. Even hiked Kilimanjaro all but the first and last day in them. Some 14er's and many others. 6 weeks ago I bought the current model. I will probably never buy them again. At first I thought it was a fluke. I am hiking/running the same trails, the same conditions as the previous model(s). The material you are now using let's so much dirt through I have to stop and pour the dirt out. The toe fills up with that much dirt I have to curl my toes. Not happy.

Overall great shoe. The shoe is significantly lighter than the previous version. It breathes really well. However, because of the lighter materials, it does not fit the same way the previous XA Pro models did. For example, in the previous model I wear a 10.5. In the new XA Pro 3D, 10.5 feels like an 11. I recommend sizing down if you're unsure.

I've bought numerous Salomon trail runners over the past 15+ years for myself, wife and kids and these are my 3rd pair of XA Pros. I've always liked their durability and balance of stability and cushion. Unfortunately, this pair is way stiffer and the normally decent arch support feels flat. I'm not used to having to undergo a break-in period but still after wearing out a couple times and coming home with sore feet I wish I could return them. They are still a good tread for mountain biking and I have not yet tested them running or backpacking but either my feet has changed significantly or the quality of these shoes have changed. I cannot recommend them.

This is a nice looking shoe, but after I wore them for a couple of days, the pain in my feet was excruciating, and I am unable to return them having worn them for two days, so I did lose out on quite a bit of money so just be cautious before buying them, they may cause your feet to hurt excruciatingly.

Really miss the older version of this shoe. I've prob been through 6 or 7 pairs of the older XA Pro model and they were great. Tried this v8 and the construction quality is not the same. Guess i'll have to seek other brands... It would be interesting to see how many of the negative reviews are from the "upgraded v8" model.

I got these shoes for winter to replace an older pair of Salomon (XA Pro) winter shoes. Little did I know these new shoes (even though they have the same name) are not waterproof and not for winter. I wanted to replace the older model of shoes XA Pro which are Gortex and Waterproof. I find this problematic and somewhat deceiving as I got a product that is not for winter operations.

The older ones were good. I used them to hike the PCT, CDT, Hayduke, Via Dinarica, and other trails. Went through about 7 pairs through the years. Loved them and lived in them for years. Now they are not good. Very disapointing.

I have purchased this shoe over and over. It was by far one of the best shoes and many of us serving in the military. But they when cheap on us, no more ankle or foot support, the tread is cheap. If your going to go cheap and change the shoe that you've had for years then at least change the name.

I have been buying and wearing these for the last five years they were brilliant would last about a year, I bought my new pair in June 2022 and they have pretty much disintegrated the soles are completely gone and the upper are tearing and getting holes, someone needs to do some proper quality control. I will have to change shoe brands

This is my 4th pair of the xa pro 3d's. The first 3 pairs were used in various hazardous terrain in an operational capacity and never let me down. Was the most comfortable, reliable shoe I had ever found. I recently purchased the new "v8" version of the shoe, and was shocked at the loss of quality. Everything about it from glue where there used to be stitching, to the joke of a sole that feels extremely flimsy. No heel lock or anything. Was slipping just walking around the house. My first thought was this looks like a payless imitation of a salomon shoe. Huge disappointment. Obviously cutting corners to maximize profits. On to the Merrell moab I go. Bring back the old version!

I have gone through 1 or 2 pairs of these shoes (Depending on snowpack) for over a decade. The new version is much different than prior. I am on my second pair of V8, but will not buy again until they change to V9. First, I cannot get a good set for the heel, so it slides around; never before had a blister with these shoes, but do now. The toe cap is beefier; I see what they're doing there, but it was unwanted for me (more difficult to get into toe straps on rower). The tongue...I can't put a finger on it, but it just doesn't work. Finally, it may be my imagination, but the tread is wearing out too fast.

This has been my go-to shoe for many years as I have always had a pair for different kind of adventures. New version feels like a working boot and the heel cup is extremely slippery and don't hold my heel still as the older models did. Only after few weeks of use, the shoe shows significant signs of wear. The laminated plastic from toe cap edge is tearing off and soles are beginning to wear out too, which is pretty weird. I have used the shoe only for about 200km. XA Pro 3D V8 is sold in Finland as a sustainable product. In my opinion, this doesn't meet the standards at all because of the lack of durability. I really appreciate the partial use of recycled materials, but if it's made with a cost of durability, it ends up not to be worth it. I changed the lacing to improve heel slipping problem and it worked for a bit, but I believe this pair will be for gardening.

Not sure what the reasoning behind this "updated design" was other than pure production cost saving. They not only look and feel cheaply made but the new design makes them unwearable. The heel cup especially. Whatever new padding was added just causes my heel to shoot straight out of the shoe. What ever updates were done to the laces now feel apparent as a tight band right across my toes during flexion. I wore the older 2016 versions on my Appalachian Trail thruhike and had zero issues from the shoes other than wear and tear and have worn them ever since for everything. For my Pacific Crest Trail thruhike I returned them instantly. The shoes need to go back to how they were.

the latest model change is a total back-fire, I bought this model over the last 8 years, great fit and quality, but the latest change ruined it for me, worse material and shape. Why tinker with a successful product??? Makes absolutely no sense economically, please reset to previous version!!

This pair is my first of the "updated" version. Friction at the ankle collar. Rubbing off skin at the achilles - bleeding through my sock etc... Guessing they changed the fabric to something rougher. Otherwise the updated version also "feels" like its a bit cheaper built - cost engineering mroe than performance engineering. Really a bummer as I went through about 3-4 pairs of these per year for several years in a row (I walk... a lot). Stuck trying to find a replacement.

My old pairs of xa pro 3d (gtx and non gtx) are on their last legs. I can verify all the other reviews that this shoe fits nothing like to old one. Much less comfortable toe box and heel slippage. I am devastated - I found my perfect shoe 10 years ago and now it doesn't exist anymore. Please bring back the classic!
