This is my third pair of this particular model Salomon light hiker. I use them daily for miles and miles on cement, dirt trails and sandy roads. My big toes do not poke through the top front edge because this shoe has a special protective toe guard. It also seems warmer in the winter with this extra material. The shoes are a little stiff at first and then break in nicely over a few weeks. The tread is the only reason I need new ones almost every year, as it starts to degrade with my high mileage activities. Inside, the support and material last well into the second year. I buy my shoes to fit a bit loosely, to accommodate thicker, well-padded socks. I have a very high arch that feels well supported in these shoes.

I love these trail runners and have been wearing them for years. It looks like this model is being phased out. I tried some of the newer ones and they make my feet hurt. Please don't stop making these!!

I've been wearing Salomon hiking shoes for at least 10 years. I've always been the same size (I'm between an 8.5-9 and 8.5 has always fit me perfectly for Salomon). I received these and at first thought they must be labeled incorrectly. They are HUGE. Not just in length but in volume as well...my feet are swimming in these shoes and I trip over the toes because they are at least a full size bigger than my previous shoes (RIP X Mission3s, it makes no sense to me that such a popular shoe was discontinued).
That said...IF these shoes were sized correctly (and IF Salomon could keep a range of sizes in stock), these could be a great shoe. They are lightweight, have great grippy sole and feel responsive when hiking on varied terrain.
The real bummer here is the size discrepancy. I have the gore Tex version of this shoe (also in an 8.5) and while those are roomy, this pair is ridiculous. I'm not able to return them, so the wonky sizing is especially annoying. I no longer feel like I can trust Salomon to be consistent, so I will think twice about ordering non-returnable shoes from them in the future.

I really like this particular Salomon shoe (XA Pro 3D V8). I've had three pair of Salomon 'Speedcross', they are good too, but this style is a little wider and longer, though all the same size. More comfortable and I like this sole better! Great shoe!!! Worth every penny!

I like my running shoes so I can comfortably wiggle my toes. My regular shoe size 7.5 felt small and the size 8 was much better. this is my second pair of size 8 Solomon Trail running shoes so looks like the size 8 is good for me.

I haven't fully tested these shoes on extensive trail runs but they hold up nicely.
The shoes I got were a bit big I sized up based on the measurements I was in between a 7 and 7.5 and went with the 7.5 but they ended up being a little loose even with socks and tightening the laces. Maybe I will appreciate the extra toe space if i ran in them but for now they are great for my trail walks.
I love the color as well.

I just finished walking 500 miles across Spain on El Camino De Santiago in these. I watched over and over as my fellow pilgrims had to toss their shoes due to breakdowns, blisters and discomfort. The blister scene was insane and I was only one of three people of the dozens I walked with who came out blister free. They were perfect for the change of terrain (although they definitely wore down on the outer edges - could have to do with asphalt), kept my feet nice and cool in the heat and they were never sweaty. Most people toss their shoes once they reach the church in Santiago but I couldn't do it. They were the tool that took me across Spain. Amazing.

I was so excited to get the notification these were back in stock. I was going to buy 2 pairs at least but nope. Only allowed 1 pair. Please don't discontinue these.
On another note why is the loop on the heel going away? For people with back or mobility issues, weak hands, these little loops are essential.

Salomon are my "go to" shoe. I wear them hiking on all kind of trails & even 13'ners and 14'ners. I also wear them out on the golf course since the soles help keep my feet planted. They are so comfortable!

Really like this shoe! The sole of it makes my foot feel very nested in and really prevents ankle rolls on trail runs and hikes. The shoe is a little stiffer than most other shoes I have worn, but in a way that is advantageous and makes the shoe feel like it can conquer anything. This was my first time using this type of laces as well and they take a little bit to get used to, but I really like them. If you are looking for a durable shoe that has insane stability, this is the one. However, I had to get a 7 and I normally wear a 7.5-8 so they do run small so keep that in mind.

Bring back, bring back, bring back my X-Mission 3s to me.
Yet Salomon shoe returned to REI. Nothing has worked since the X-Mission 3 - which I have been told was the greatest Salomon trail running shoe of all time.
These are so different. Narrow toe box, narrow across the top with no means to adjust, stiff. After just 1 hour wearing them around the house both my baby toes were red.
That's the problem with so many shoes these days, they are making them longer and narrower. People's feet didn't just change overnight so why did your shoes?
What were you possibly thinking when you discontinued such a wonderful shoe as the X-Mission 3?
Bring back, bring back, bring back my X-Mission 3s to me.
And don't tell me you changed them because of people's comments. I know so many trail runners in Phoenix and Flagstaff who wear or wore X-Mission 3s.
Bring back, bring back, bring back my X-Mission 3s to me.

The fit is fine. I love Solomans and have had 2 pairs of these This pair (esp the left one) has a tongue that slides to the left and I constantly have to adjust it back to the top. I should’ve sent them back.

I sure wish companies didn't change a good thing! I finally needed to replace my ~4 year old XA PROs. This latest version is much wider through the mid foot and somewhat in the heel. My old version fit me like a glove but this newer version is sloppy through the mid foot and I have a little slip in the heal. I also feel lightening the weight has taken away from the underfoot support. Kinda disappointed... (photo, purple (old), new (green))

Well built, stable shoe with great support. They are a mainstay for me as I have been wearing this style for over 8 years. I literally wear them everywhere for everything I do-exercising, walking, shopping, hiking, around home, working, etc.

I've been wearing XA Pros for almost 20 years. They're not the only Salomon shoes I wear, e.g. I choose lighter shoes for running. But when I can only take one pair of shoes with me for a variety of activities, I choose XA Pros. They're great for hiking trails, long walks around medieval towns, canoe trips, restaurants and adventure racing (because they're very stable off-trail). I always have a new pair in a box ready to go!

I am a fan of Salomon XA Pro 3D, I bought those a few weeks ago, the "Non Gore-tex", are for the warmer and dry temperature. I also have the XA Pro 3D Gore-Tex, I simply love those. Confortable, stable, easy to lace.
