I hiked 700 miles of the PCT in Altras - my first intro to a toe box that did not deform my feet. Although they were comfortable, there is literally nothing to them in terms of lateral support or stability. This contributed to the injury that forced me off the trail. When I got home I started looking for an alternative shoe with a comparable foot shape design and was stoked to find Topo shoes. I bought the Ultraventure hoping for a more supportive shoe and was not disappointed - at first. The shoe fits great and offers the support I was looking for. But the build quality needs work. Within a week I noticed some delamination on the tread, which I fixed. 3 weeks later another section of the sole started peeling away from the bottom. Even though the Altras are too sloppy for my taste, at least they lasted nearly 3 months of continuous trail walking.
*Topo Note: Hi Eric, thanks for making us aware! It sounds like you received a bad pair. If you'd like to reach out to our customer service team at info@topoathletic.com with some photos, we'd be happy to see what we can do to help!*

They fit well. Roomy toe box as advertised. Right amount of cushioning. I bought these for walking 500 kilometers through Italy. I just completed the seventh day and 160 kilometers (roughly 100 miles) the left shoe has developed a pop/tick/squeak on every step of firm ground (hard to describe but seriously annoying). Considering the number of steps I am taking each day, I will have listened to that noise hundreds of thousands of times before I am done. Although, I am not sure if they'll make it as the lugs are wearing down quickly. There are some good features on this shoe (which is why I gave it more than one star) but I gave up my regular shoe model I've been wearing for several years to try these because they fit so well but the annoying noise coming from the sole makes these a fail. Count me very disappointed.

I had great hope for these shoes. After reading reviews, I decided this was going to be my first pair of trail shoes and my first pair of shoes from Topo Athletics. The overall fit was good. I went out for several 10-16 mile trail runs, and the shoes felt good. When I put 250 miles onto these shoes, the side of the shoe ripped out. It looked like the overlay did not meet the shoe sole. Instead there was some fabric there that ripped. I contacted Topo Athletics, and they offered me a free pair once in a lifetime pair of shoes. I thought great, what a good company even though they insisted that 250 miles for trail shoes is a good amount of miles. Anyways I received my new pair of shoes. After 128 miles, portion of the sole started to some off. Again I contacted Topo Athletics and they offered me a half off code for a new pair of shoes. I am glad to say that I deleted the code and will not be buying from this company again. I feel that their quality control is an issue and do not want to gamble my money away.

I took today the brand new shoes for first run of 11k, was a great feeling, but...
the sole had been torn out, it's look like glue problem.
Need to get replaced

I was hoping for a replacement for my Altra Olympus since I was unable to find any. I found the fit of these fine, but they could have used more/ or better cushioning. If not that a small rock plate. I could feel every rock after 100 miles.
Then, and the worst part, the side of the shoe completely blew out. There is a 3 inch hole in the side now, which I imagine is just going to get worse since I have 70 more miles til I get to a town. (On the PCT right now.)
Overall, very disappointing.

I loved the original terraventures and went through 2 pairs at 400 plus miles. I was excited for the higher stack height of the ultraventures for my longer runs. The last on these is different from the first terraventure and gives me blisters behind the ball of my foot on the inside. I've gone back to the Altra Timp 1.5 without any blisters at all. Please change the last to resemble the original terraventure and I will give Topo another try.
