This is one awesomely-capable trail shoe; great traction, sufficient support, and so comfortable.
With an injured ankle, I was in need of a more cushioned trail shoe. Two contenders; the TA Ultraventure, and the Hoka Stinson ATR 5. Shockingly, the lower-stack and lighter Ultraventure provided a more cushioned ride, whilst being much more nimble. No comparison--the Ultraventure provides the cushioning needed for recovery runs, and also is sufficiently "racy" for spirited trail training. In comparison the Stinson felt tall, slow, and yet too firm. The TA wider toe box feels odd at first, but great, afterwards.
The Hoka was returned. No doubt, both great shoes, but it's TA shoes for me.
Topo Athletic: please produce a WP version of this shoe, for us wet-weather trail runners.

I originally bought the Topo Ultraventure for the large toe box and cushion. Having just reached 100 miles with my first pair, I can say that so far, I am in love with them. The amount of cushion provides a great feel, with more stability than my Altra Olympus. The overall fit is excellent. I can't be sure, but I think the 5mm drop has eliminated the post-run Achilles pain I was having on longer runs with the Olympus. As long as they hold up for 500 miles, I will be back for my next pair!

Recently switched from Altra's to Topos because found Altra's becoming a little too wide and sloppy. I won't know for sure till I run beyond 30-40 miles , but so far excellent and comfortable shoe and customer service

As advertised low-drop, wide toe box, and cushioned outsole make this my go to trail running shoe, especially if I am going to be out / up there for while (3 hours). Maybe not winning a lot of style / fashion points but that's not why we're on the trails, is it?

The Ultraventure is my third pair of Topo's in a row. Had the MT2, then Terraventure 2, and loved both of those. Thought I'd venture out to try another brand, but after a few purchases and returns came right back to Topo (due to the fit for my wide toe splay) and landed on the Ultraventure.
Looking back, these may be the best fit for me yet because of the added cushion for my large 6'2", 200 lb Clydesdale running frame. Will continue to be a repeat customer as long as Topo keeps putting out these high quality products!

This was my forth pair of Topos, and they really nailed it! Perfect amount of drop and cushioning for trail hiking, walking around town or just hanging out. Love the Vibram sole. These are the best. Thank you for making something different.

After being fed up with altras and their durability issues and overall comfort I made the switch to these. Man I'm sure glad I did and my feet are too!! Have around 150 miles on them and no sign of wearing, the other brand would have already been packed out and had holes. Thanks Topo, please change nothing about these shoes!!!

I've spent thousand of dollars over the years on all the different brands of trail shoes, trying to find a shoe that has the right amount of cushion and wide enough for my oversize foot. I've been using the Altra brand, but haven't really adjusted well to the zero drop. I like that the Topo has at least the five percent drop, which seems to work better for me. So far I'm happy with my first topo brand purchase. The width is ok, wouldn't mind a little wider, but it's working. So far no issue with sore feet or knees, so hope that continues. I have purchased the hiking boot, and the fit seems good, but haven't had it out on the trail yet. So hoping the Topo brand will be my new favorite shoes.

Have used the Ultraventure for over 300 miles of hiking and on two backpacking trips. Like the roomy toe box and slight drop in the sole. The insole is top notch. Very comfy on numerous long distance days and does not need either my orthotics or Superfeet. Upper has not torn or snagged while hiking through a lot of blow down and no separation of the sole. Soles are sturdy on rocky trails with a 35 pound pack. I have tried them all, but hands down the best hiking/backpacking shoe I have ever purchased.

I am coming from Hokas originally, then Altras the past few years. I have a history of a Morton's neuroma that has been surgically resected 1.5 years ago, and so forefoot comfort is very important to me, in any shoe that I purchase. The Topo seems to be a step up from my perspective. The quality of the shoe is better than Altra, the wide toe box coupled with a more snug mid-foot and heel is the perfect match for my feet. The heel cup is very comfortable and doesn't slip. I did hike 14 miles in the Grand Tetons with these 3 weeks ago, and was happy with them. The tread grips the terrain well. My only 2 changes I would make to this shoe is #1 it needs alittle more cushion. It has significantly less than Hoka, and less than the more plush Altra model. #2 if you are going to hike on uneven terrain, the lack of a rock plate was a negative for me. Great all around hiking shoes, but my feet did hurt from uneven stones pushing up into my forefoot on the 14 mile hike through Paintbrush Canyon. The lack of a rock plate is fine for any other type of hiking, but with aggressive uneven terrain, it was a noticeable miss. I would still recommend these highly for quality, comfort, and overall performance. I would definitely buy these again.

Put my Ultraventures to the test on my recent trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico and Breckenridge, Colorado, the shoe prefomed really well on several climbs above 10,000 feet both Santa Fe and just outside Breckenridge CO. The outsole gripped really well on a glacier during a sleet and freezing rain Storm while on Hoosier Pass at 12,000 ft. Traction was exceptional walking back to my vehicle for 2 miles in pouring rain/sleet. Next buy, the new hiking boot by Topo.

I bought them for my GF and I. We have had a great time in them. We have even gone on some pretty intense hikes as well. Great shoe in my opinion.

I had to go up to a 15 because the 14 wasn't in stock. Shocking they basically feel the same to me. Super comfy right out of the box. I hope topo athletics keeps the roomier fit. Another wide toe box shoe company has started making their shoes narrow and pointy and they don't fit me feet. I have what's called Morton toe. It means your big toe is shorter then your index toe. Mine is probably a 1\2 inch difference. So that extra toe room really helps me!

I use these shoes for my runs on trials and back country roads. The shoes provide good support and cushioning. Good traction in wet conditions. Very comfortable, I like the Topo fit. Highly recommend these shoes.

This is shoe is amazing. I've only run in it once, an 8-miler split 4/4 road trail with 4x30 second hills hard. It handled everything. I haven't felt this good in a shoe in a long while; not since the Altra Lone Peak 3.5. The cushion felt wonderfully soft yet responsive, the grip was outstanding, the fit is spot on true to size, the colorway was actually better in person. I felt as though I could have run 100-miles right then and there. In fact, I'm confident this is my 100-mile shoe for the Fall, I've worn Altras for years and Hokas before that. This shoe is the perfect marriage of the two. I cannot wait to try all the shoes in the Topo line.
For reference, I wear size 11 in everything and a size 11 fits well. I've got a narrow left food with a standard width right, higher arches and a medium/high instep, and I've got a neutral stride. I've worked in a run specialty shop for the past year that doesn't sell Topos and, compared to all the trail shoes we sell (Nike, Salomon, Hoka, Altra, Brooks, Saucony) this may be my favorite.

I like the larger toebox. It has a nice sole - comfy but not mushy. i like the lower drop - in between a normal shoe and an zero drop shoe.

In my opinion, this is the best trail long distance shoe out there. It combines cushioning, traction, fit, flexibility, slight rockered bottom, and durability. The rockered shape along with the flexibility helps with efficiency in your gate cycle and with overall fatigue. Every shoe that I have tried up to this point has had some flaw that I could point to that needed some sort of design change. Not with the Ultraventure. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.
